Just out of curiosity what if we are not a Christian? I myself am very forgiving individual however, I'm a Jew. Do Christians only have the power to forgive, do they ONLY have the power to care etc etc. I agree that one needs to be careful with make generalizations and stereotypes. Just because an individual is a different faith than you does not necessarily make them less of a evolved, compassionate person.

"WE MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO MAKE STEREOTYPES." Says who? The program? Our government? Ya know, all this 'niceness' and politically correct horseshit happened right around the time we had a president who told hungry inner city schoolchildren that their school lunches were nutritious because KETCHUP WAS A VEGETABLE!!
I don't know about you, but I make stereotypes all the damn time and I don't feel bad about it one little bit. In person, I look very mellow and average, but the minute I open my mouth and people hear my burned out Southern Accent, the first thing that pops into mind is REDNECK. Once they hear my words though, most people become very confused and ask me where I come from. Their minds cannot add the voice up to the words, because REDNECKS are not supposed to possess the vocabulary of the higher learn-ed.
My stereotypes come from a lifetime of experience.
Mistakes that I made in my youth for "giving someone a chance" that led to a loss on my part.
I learned to never trust a man whose stomach don't move when he laughs, never loan more money than you would blow your nose into and throw in the trash, when people are lying to you, their ears move when they talk. When children are telling a lie, their legs are locked at the knees as an unconcious way of standing firm in their lie. I think sterotypes are a good thing, if used correctly, they keep us from harm. If anyone has ever cut sharply around the corner of a building and into the bearhug of a waiting mugger can attest to, it happened not because the mugger was black or Jewish, Christian or oriental, it happened because you let your field of view get cut off. You were too busy trying to get to someplace, and did not want to take the extra steps to assure your safety, and now you stand on the sidewalk with a broken nose, bleeding, with no wallet or I.D. answering a bunch of stupid questions to the police. This happened to me in 1988 right in my home town of St. Petersburg Florida in broad daylight. I did'nt immediately hate black people even though it took three of them to get my wallet, and I broke the left arm of the one who I actually knew.
I just made it a habit from then on, to never cut the corner of a building by less than 10 feet, and to always put my wallet in my front pocket whenever in a tensely crowded situation. Stereoypes are cool, pork chops tastes good, bacon tastes good!

Some Christian fundamentalists insist that they haven't evolved. I believe them!

People all over the world can be forgiving, to me it has nothing to do with one's religion. Where I draw the line is when someone harms people and uses their particular religion to hide behind when they know they are doing wrong. It shows tremendous disrespect to God no matter what that religion is that they happen to be hiding behind.
In short, I wouldn't invite Muhammad Atta, Jim Jones, a child molestin' priest, or Mel Sembler over to my home to break bread. Does that cover everyone???

Bob, That's a good take on stereotypes. It's human nature, so why fight it? :scared: like saying "African american" instead of the much simpler "black", or "native american" instead of "Indian". When I hear people use these lame p.c. phrases, I usually don't hesitate to 'correct' them...
It's funny though Bob, reading your posts I never imagined the accent. No, you don't 'sound' at all like your typical redneck...I reckoned ye were wunna dem 'book-larned' types.

Even red necks have a proud history going back to the coal wars and even to Ireland before that. It's a shame the term has been coopted by a bunch of white niggers.

For the Anonymous ass wipe that has condemned people to "BURN IN HELL," Let me remind you that this is a forum for individuals that suffered and were victimized by abusive treatment centers. We have all suffered enough physical and emotional abuse. If you wish to be like Dr. Miller Newton & the Straight Staff create your own websight & tell people their going to hell.
You sound like your still in Straight....Nazi fascist!!!!

I have always preferred river-bottom white trash to be the equal of a worthless waste of skin who also happens to be black, more commonly know as a nigger. I tend to shy away from red-neck as I have met some red-necks who are quite responsible. The you have the red-necks who have made money in life and been promoted to Good 'ole Boy. A good 'ole boy is a person who doen't mind getting his brand new pick-up truck all muddy.

NicoleEsther, When I read that post by anon., I thought it was probably tongue-in-cheek...anon?
Clay, Thanks for explaining the difference between white trash, rednecks & good ole boys.
Everyone: I'd like to hear more thoughts on the reality of living stereotypes in today's (american) society.

No, I suppose I meant co-opted. Lots of dumb, mean spirited white boys bouncing around thinking they're better than someone else by virtue of their level of pigment and need never do an honorable thing to earn their way and calling themselves red necks. They are not even close to being worthy of the term red neck, as defined by honorable sons of the men who fought and died in the coal wars.

Christians are not the only only ones with the power to forgive but they are commanded to do so
The Bible says that if we do not forgive He cannot forgive us.
Unforgiveness even for horrible acts can be an open door for the enemy to grow bitterness, shame, rejection and many other schemes to control the person.
Jesus came with a purpose to ransom you for your Heavenly Father if you accept his gift he will stand for you before God as your Savior...like a bridge to make a way. No one can stand on their own before a holy God. The Word says our righteousness is like filthy rags and All have fallen short. Sin is sin to him - big or little. Yet when we ask for forgiveness ourselves and and truly sorry (to man and God) the Word says he forgets our sin and places it as far as the east is from the west.
I've read about Mel Gibson's new movie "The Passion about the last 12 hours of the life of Christ- it is said to be very factual but no one will take it on to distribute it in the US yet look at the previews of all the satanic and weird spiritual sadistic movies and scary movies- I see none of them but am even haunted by their ads - yet some thrive on them -WHY?
When you belong to Christ you will see the world through his eyes and have a great distaste for all evil with a holy anger.
This is beautiful and yet very dark world and a study on Bible Prophecy and reading the front pages of today's papers are very interesting.
Keep searching for the truth and ask God to reveal himself to you ...you may have an awesome supernatural experience that is nothing like you've ever known...sorry if this sounds like preaching but I've not known this for very many years and since have been the most exciting and peaceful of my life.
-
It's True,
As a Christian, I am commanded to forgive. I have no problem with that. When I think of Mel, I think of the quote:
Luke 23:34 ""Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.""
Well, the way I see it is that Mel knows Damned well what he was doing then as much as what he knows what he is doing today, so he should be forgiven based on his self-serving arrogance and stupidity. I forgive him for being selfish and greedy and careless about his fellow man.
HOWEVER, that doesn't mean for ONE minute that while I breath I will do my part to make him face what he has done to us, and legacy is leaves being for God knows how many young people trapped in those horrible places today. I was not created by MY God to be his money-making guinea pig commodity. I will die one day and have to account for everything on this earth I have done. I believe if I do nothing to expose his evilness, it would be a disappointment shared between me and MY God.
I don't take any pleasure in this. I never once ASKED for this asshole to intrude into my life, but here he is. I know that my life would have been better if I never heard of Straight and the cultists that ran it, but this is the hand that life has dealt me. This shit is going to stop one and for all if I have anything to say about it. I prey a lot to MY God that I do his will and not my own as I go after this bastard and his stupid wife because they continue to BRAG to the world about what they did to us.

Heres one for you that not many americans would've heard b/c its irish. They say "It was good craic(crack) last night" or "it was a good bit of craic(crack)" or "the craic was good" or "whats the craic". The word is pronouced crack but it is an gaelic/irish word for fun or good time. I died laughing the first few times I'd heard it and had to explain what it meant in america. They have crack here unfortunately but I'm not sure if thats what they call it. They also call cell phones mobiles, gas they call petrol, Q-tips are earbuds, sweaters are jumpers, pants are underwear, pencil erasers are rubbers, braids are plats, bangs(in hair) are fring, jello they call jelly, what we call jelly is jam, french fries are chips, potatoe chips are called crisps, sprite or 7up they call lemonaide, if they want a beer they say a pint(they look at you funny if you say give me a beer unless you say bottle) if you ask for a screw driver(drink) they haven't a clue, if you are in a line for something its called a queue, bathroom/restroom is toilet,lu or jax, a wrench is a spanner, the trunk of your car is a boot, the hood is a bonnet, shopping carts are trollys, diapers are nappys, babystrollers are prams, vacuum is hoover, if you have a tantrum they call it a wobbler, getting drunk is getting pissed or going on a piss, ass is arse, and the middle finger(fuck U) is rarely used they use the peace sign inverted and it means fuck off, oh the list could go on and on. I personally don't change my words, they have american tv(tellie here) they know what I'm saying I just hate it if someone tries to tell me I should say their word just because I live here.
Sorry if I've gone on a bit.

In Florida, if you're under a certain age (say, 25 or so) you just don't go around talking about dope or dope heads. Dope isn't what it used to be, it's crack. So, for the first week my daughter was here, she was really worried about her old friend cause she thought he and all his friends were smoking crack.

I'm sick to death of people shoving God down our throats! Thats all I'm saying about that. No offence intended.
As for 'Good ole boys', I kinda think of them as the white men of the world who think they are better than everyone else and who won't let women(any color) and men(any color other than white)either move up the corporate latter, into their special clubs or just don't want people to better themselves, want to keep the people I mentioned above down.
As for names like African American, I just want to know, if they go by that then why am I not called Irish/German/American???? I still call black people black and white people white and so on. I don't see the problem with this. I mean if you were born there(Africa) and now are in the US then by all means you s/b called that. But if you were born in America then you are up and formost American w/ whatever nationality as descendents.
I mean no offence to any Republicans on this website but why is it if you are having a discussion w/a Rep. they feel the need to make you see the light so to speak. As if I'm an idiot and can't see the truth clearly. I have met a few who think they will be able to convert me, with no luck I can tell you. I do believe in the death penalty by the way and am pro-choice.

Yeah, They like to try to convert you. Most of them aren't even aware of the dirty-dealings of the GOP. But I'll tell you, as far as I see, the Dems & Repubs are no more than two flaccid butt-cheeks on the same fat ass, if you'll pardon the analogy. No one will convince me otherwise. I'm a non-voter and not ashamed of that. If none of the above were a choice, I'd consider picking that. Or if I thought it were worth it, I'd vote Libertarian or Green...I too am pro-choice, and believe in the death penalty, and my right to dish it out in self-defense. ::armed::
-
A proud non-voter? Then maybe your opinion regarding the flacid ass of our system doesn't count at all except as time wasted posting. I don't know just an opinion. I just have a problem with people living here in the US and reaping the benefits (ie freedom of speech here on the board) but then being so "proud" of their indifference. I understand all to well the corruption in our government, and the dislike for both parties but refusing to vote or take any part in the political process however minute isn't helping either. I have lived in other countries and they also live with corruption (that is what power does to people) within the government, but they aren't allowed to complain very loudly. Hell the women couldn't show their faces in public much less have an opinion. So forgive my harsh response but I've lived the other side of the coin, and if you don't vote don't complain.
-
I reserve the right to complain, whether or not I vote. Did I mention that I also don't like the prospect of jury-duty? (which is a side-effect of voting.) Show me who a candidate worth voting for, and I'll vote for him/her. Until then, it's "none of the above" for me. I'm aware of the repression in foreign countries. I've been abroad myself. Our votes are rigged anyway. Look at it this way, if NO ONE voted, no one could be elected...

Nicole,
Weren't you in Straight for a mere 4 days? I find it hard to believe you suffered anywhere near what most of us did in. I lost a year of my life in that hell hole. You weren't even there for a whole week!
-
Yes Heather,
Your right...I did not suffer like the majority of you did on this board....Every time I read more stories I feel very blessed and my situation could have been so much worse....HOWEVER, just 4 days had radical impact on me. After the second night I attempted to AWOL and jumped out of a window. Subsequently I was very hurt, broken nose, head injury, 9 stitches in my left arm. Like most of you who attenpted an AWOL Straight did not take it very well when you returned. I was kept awake for 24 hrs screamed at told I was a looser whore in front of the entire grp etc etc.
They refused to give me medical attention- prescribed medication, pain killers etc and I finally passed out. They finally took me to the ER & an angel nurse saved me....called my formed therapist & he got me out of Straight. I went to a Psychiatric Hospital & treated for PTDS. It was there Child abuse reports were filed & the state licensing board interviewed me. Straight CA was shut down 2 months later due to my testimony. I did not speak to my Mom for over one year & had to live with friend until I went to college.
Although I was only there for 4 days I thing Straight had the most impact on me & deeply affected me....Mostly due to the situation following my AWOL & life after Straight...relationship with my mother etc....I think that time in my life in 1990 when I was 17 was even more painful then when my father died when I was 13. I think the hardest thing was that if my Dad was alive Straight would have NEVER HAPPENED TO ME!!!!
But on a lighter note I think I was meant to be there...even though it was very painful....Due to my testimony Straight was forced to leave CA...
Just though you should know
Nicole

According to the New Testament in Romans chapter 2, paul mentions that those who are entirely ignorant of the gospel message who "are a law unto themselves" will be "judged" according to what they know. In chapters 9, 10, and 11 of Romans, it is apparent that Paul believed that Jews would be "grafted" back ultimately, "all Israel shall be saved". I asked a "completed Jew" once if this "all Israel" meant "all Jews", and he was certain that it was, so I was like, well, don't they have to believe in Jesus? And Avner took me to Romans 9:4-5 "Who are Israelites; to whom PERTAINETH (BELONG) the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and of whom concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen." Mr. Bosky's emphasis was on the present tense "to whom pertaineth (belongs)" the covenants, etc. Paul believed that Jesus (Yeshua) was the promised Messiah and that faith in Him alone brought salvation, but I think it is important to read Romans chapters 9, 10, and 11 and then pray to God about Yeshua.
You know, I've met all types of Christians. I've met some "cool" non Christians and Jews. We are similar in our humanity, and have the ability to bless others, to forgive others. But I have found Yeshua to be greater than the coolest of people. His forgiveness of us is so complete that we often can't handle it. We have our ups and downs, but He is consistent. I like Him alot. If I could I would persuade you to become as I am, but I believe God is more than able to communicate to a willing heart and that if you should look anywhere for answers, you should go directly to Him. I may say something dumb that may cause you to feel alienated or fearful, but in Him there is no fear. Yeshua is the "complete" experience for the Jew and Gentile alike. Glory to God, you've got me preachin! I feel the glory that pertaineth to the Israelites exuding from every pore of my body! This is all your fault!
-
just 4 days had radical impact on me.
I understand that. My first two weeks were spent trying to adjust to the environment there. Cried my eyes out in the dismissal line and not having a clue how to get out. It was terrifying.

Jury duty is fun. I have had jury duty three times and been a juror for two trials. I was picked for three, but the somebodies lawyer took one look at the jury that got seated and POOF the case was settled. We came back in the room and the judge was laughing about how we had scared one of the attorneys.
I was once on misdemenor criminal, and Common Pleas which is where the big money is twice. I don't think I'd like General Sessions much though because to find someone guilty I'd really be fucking up their already fucked up lives.
Any way, most states are going to drivers licenses for jury pools to ensure all you non voters get your turns on jury duty. So I guess it is a side effect of driving now... Phht!
Now you can still renounce your citizenship and not have to do jury duty though. I have noticed the lines aren't very long for this choice however.
TO be honest, I think I live in the greatest nation on earth. I relish the fact that I get to vote, even if they are bums. I like jury duty and enjoy public service. I think all these things make me an American something I am very proud of.

Hey you're right, Clay. I've since changed my views about jury duty. That's an old post up there btw. Yeah, I had j.d. a few weeks back and it was allright. I got 2-3 hours to wander around in downtown Balto. It had been a while! I went in a used record store and walked out with a video tape of "Night Of the Living Dead" which is one of my fav movies of all time! Only cost me $4! I also went to the library and checked out a few CDs. "Plastic Letters" by Blondie. "In Through the Out Door" by Led Zeppelin. The Best of Robert Johnson. I got to spend a lot of time reading. I was reading the autobiography of Sun Ra. I stopped. Maybe I'll pick that book up again someday. Maybe I'll suceed in talking my wife into watching "NOTLD" with me. I'll slip her a mickey and pop it in, lol. Take care Clay, see you 'round..

I realize this is an old post, but time in isn't the end all.
There was a girl in 1975 that was placed in the Seed. She soon attempted suicide by hiding a razor from her oldcomer's bathroom and slashing her wrists in the Seed bathroom while a oldocomer stood guard outside the stall.Afterward the Seed tried to cover it up and wouldn't tell her mom. She then escaped and lived in the woods near her mother's house for a week, too scared to return home because she was scared her mom would take her back. Eventually she went home and fortunately her mom didn't take her back to the seed.
Imagine the impact this event had on her life. She was 16, had smoked pot and then ended up in that insane asylum behind Tyrone mall and had to run for her sanity. She was only at the Seed for a short period of time, and I bet it impacted her life forever.
This was her explanation to the St Pete newspaper when they caught wind of it and interviewed her.
"being dead was about the best thing I could think of. I thought about how peaceful I'll be. There won't be no more Seed. I can't stand this anymore."

Freud thought religion was an illusion. He wrote a very funny paper on it once. Christianity has been more of a problem in this world since Constantine brought it in in the 1300's. We don't have a lot of control over our behavior unless we understand why we do what we do. Sin is just a word. We all have inner rage and anger at the world. Like a therapist told me, "we all hate our parents, but some of us have more reason". Our family taught us how to view the world. We all have inner strength and a knowing of whats best for us if we can consciously tap into it. Therapy can do this. Then you won't need an illusory power to help you. You will be strong on your own and more human.

I think constantine was in 300 AD. Sorry about that.

Thanks GregFL
The bottom line is anoyone who experienced even one hour of Straight/the Seed among others has been victimized including family of the inmates. We all had/ have our cross to carry of the deranged cult..and now we have to pick up the pieces and heal in the best way we can!!!

Hey, Nicole...long time. Where you been? Lol.

I agree, Abreaction. I've never had much need for religion. "Know thy self..."
Hey anon who called me a "jackass" and said this:
Wow, you're so shocking and different than everyone else, gee... I wish I was as punk rock and cool as you are!
What do you have to say now? Were you in straight? What branch? You're female, right? Were you date raped or something? Is that why you had to give me a hard time? Or do you just like being antagonistic?

"A proud non-voter? "
Hi uuum I dont have the right to vote..I think Ill just complain...that ok with you, skippy?

"According to the New Testament in Romans chapter 2, paul mentions that those who are entirely ignorant of the gospel message who "are a law unto themselves" will be "judged" according to what they know.

Hi...I really really hate Christians... Like when they come to my house and knock on the door...I often go out on the porch and then snap on them..or invite them inside and then go off. No its not wrong. When you wander on to my property you are not amongst friends...
I also see the walls of your religion coming down in the future. I see less and less of you every year that goes by.And the fact that all these priests are fucking little boys is not helping your cause. :nworthy: :nworthy: :nworthy: :nworthy: :nworthy:
Christians have killed more people than any other group ever in history..What have they been fighting over in the middle east for thousands of years? manmade religion.Muslims are no diffrent than christians IMO. The bible is so easy to pick apart..Anyone with a shred of will and intelligence can rip it up.

Try this, Therion. Got a dog? If so, see if you can get ahold of an old pair of welders gloves. You know the kind? Thick rawhide that goes up to your elbows? Keep them near the door and, next time the Bible thumpers come knocking on your door, grab the gloves, tell them you were just about to go feed the dog and invite them to walk with you. That always worked real good for my dad.
