It may seem harsh on the surface.  But the reason they escalated the situation this way is to send a clear message to the other kids (and parents) in the school that they just cant pull this crap.

If they place one kid into reform school they will save many others from following in his foot steps.  Small sacrifice, big return.

No, he's a troll.

That kid isn't going to spend one day inside any reform school of any kind. His parents homeschooled him until the school board voted to decrease the suspension.

I'm curious how long it would take me to kill one of those zero tolerance afficionados with that tiny little multitool. Only one way to find out, I suppose...

found the same article on another forum I post on for esl teachers. Their response was more one of amusement as most kids in Asia carry those x-acto razor blade knifes for sharpening pencils and carving pretty things into their desks.
