Man! I just knew it was a good day to stay in bed!

As far as I know, the hateful nazi crap hasn't seeped into the other forums on this server. I honestly think it's an Elan supporter trying to derail any productive conversation over there. Just a guess. Nothing to get upset about, really. Just ignore it.

And Straight, Inc. now operates under a couple of other names in Orlando (SAFE), Ohio (Kids Helping Kids), Detroit (Pathway Family Center) and, once removed, Lake Worth (Growing together, which spun from LIFE which spun from Straight <- The Seed <- <- DaytopSynanon) There are probably others that I don't know about.

The legislature is to society as a physician is to the patient. If a physician ignored side effects of medications like today's legislators ignore the side effects of their legislation, the physician would be accused of malpractice. I accuse today's legislators (with rare exception) of legislative malpractice. Many of the ills that are so obvious in our society are a direct result of previous legislation. Their solution? More laws!

We were in group from 9am to 9pm six days a week, Sunday from noon I think until 9pm. On Friday and Mondays we had to endure open meetings were the parents would attend as well as prospective new admissions. On these days we might get out around 1 or 2 am after we got confronted for hours about the smallest infractions. It was brutal to say the least. Average length of stay was from 18 months to well over two years. Straight was and still is the Grandaddy of ritualistic government sanctioned child abuse.

See elan u didnt leave which really sucked. peers guarded peers and were forced to restrain thier friends, some how that was supposed to be theraputic. way to many groups. but there was a place in CT i was in for like 2 weeks till i got booted that sounds like straight. but parents were in your groups? that sux. elan had one group parents attended where you had to scream at them for whatever seemed to be bothering you then they kiss make up, n go out to lunch. then go back to elan for 2 more years. it took alot of time to turn 18.

In straight, in the early days, it didn't matter if you were 18 or not. Once you were in, there were only two ways out: Cop-out (split) or graduate (7-Step). That was it. Sometime in the mid-eighties a former client sued straight for false imprisionment and straight couldn't smear this indivdual as "druggie" scum and the jury found for the plaintiff. Many nice things came from the fallout. People over 18 could most definitely withdraw, there were less friends helping (restraining) friends, beatings that kind of thing. I guess that old habits die hard or more likely the execs and such found that most of the strong-willed youths they were trying to brainwash just wouldn't change without being beaten and subjected to things that would get most people very long prison terms. Striaght became brutal once more. At least this time the suit were easier to prove as they could show prior abuse as evidence. The place was incredibly brutal, both physically and emotionally. There were many staffers that took real pleasure in dishing out consequences and being as strong (mean) with the phasers (clients) as possible. To have compassion for another was considered weakness. Striving to separate yourself from the rest of society was considered strength. Total relaince on the group (straight) for all approval and comfort was perfection. The perfect phaser wouldn't wipe their own ass unless the group told them it stank. Straight excelled at breaking down the self and turning people who left striaght into worthless piles of goo who only after many YEARS of therapy, professionaly and otherwise, could become acceptable, productive, responsible members of society. Many former clients were incapable of making this adjustment and committed suicide. Many, many more are still stuck in the rut of their straight programming. These will be the same type people who didn't know what that smell was comming from the concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I'm terribly sorry for them, but it is the burning bodies of those that could no longer carry on and survive.

Hello Sinister, in my experience, my parents were willing to help me stop using drugs, since I was 21 and had made a choice to get help. The local pastor referred them to a detox place where I spent about 45 days. It was almost double the normal time, but, either way, that place recommended I go to straight, inc. Aw jeez, that was screwed up. You see, the straight marketing people targeted white middle and upper class families at churches, schools, detox centers, etc. I was like a ripe fruit ready to pick I suppose. That was in early 1983 AFTER the lawsuit, but, of course the program directors never mentioned that the program had just gotten in trouble. But anyway, I do not think most people were court ordered. They were forced by their parents or guardians to go. I know of at least one intake that was claimed to be court ordered, but 18 years later it was discovered that it was not. Them straight inc administrators idea of "treatment" totally screwed up so many people and their families. Some stayed with the program until it was shut down and changed names. I have not heard much from them on the net lately. I think most of them feel really guilty and want to forget it all ever happened. Either way, straight inc was a hellhole of epic proportions wherever it operated. Problem now is that it is STILL going. ARGH!!!!!! :smokin:
