The following PFC LEVEL ONE Treatment Plan (Partial transcription) was submitted in September of 2007, to the Michigan Department of Community Health by Robin Cronin, the current pfc program director.
Goals A: Learn Basic disease Objective Measures
Process concepts 1. Know the 12 steps, 5 criteria, 3 signs and serenity prayer
B. Demonstrates knowledge of
how drugs have affected his/her life 1. Tells group and parents about illegal and self-destructive past
2. Expresses guilt and shame to group and parents about past & hurting self and others
3. Projects likely consequences of continued drug use.
I think the rest is just more of the exact same model as STRAIGHT, Inc. But, be careful, like the pfc'rs say, we've never been in "their" program.
ok, so some of the other "Objective measures" are:
Writes relevant daily moral inventories
Accepts responsibility for the past
Acknowledges reliance on drugs & drug oriented lifestyle
Explains personal powerlessness over drugs
Begins to let go of drug oriented friends, lifestyle, and images
Expresses feelings
Shows improved management of emotions
Accepts help from others
Abides by and helps enforce rules
Is believed to be trustworthy
Shows respect to others
Appropriately handles minor responsibilities
Family develops and understanding of the program and rehabilitation process
Family learns about the disease model of addiction
Family prepares for child coming home
Family participated in Open Meetings
Then there's some more goals like:
C. Begin the rehabilitation process
D. Develop basic communication skills
E. Achieves compliance with program expectations
F. family learns about the disease concept and rehabilitation process
Is there anything about the above posted partial transcript that differs from the STRAIGHT, Inc. modality? What is missing? Keep in mind that some of the wording is different, but overall, the core is right there smacking you in the face.
How many months does it take to figure out that a kid is not going to "work the program"? How can pfc legitimately, professionally, or with any sense of credibility, justify keeping someone for over 7 months on Level One?
