Guest list for Crist wedding is hush-hush
ST. PETERSBURG —The governor's father? A shoo-in. Mayor Rick Baker? Unclear. The man who trims Charlie Crist's hair? Probably not.
For all the hubbub about the governor's marriage to Carole Rome, much of the chatter is about what is not known — especially, who's going to the wedding, and who's not.
The Dec. 12 nuptials will take place at First United Methodist Church, where the governor and his family have worshiped for years. The ceremony is black-tie optional, with a reception afterward at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. Invitations began arriving last week. They are cream and pale pink, printed in Copperplate script, and sealed with a capital "C" affixed to satin ribbon.
An enclosure card reads: "No gifts please, due to Florida law." The governor is required to report presents thought to be worth more than $100, except those from family members. (story here)

nice. Let's hear about the wedding but not Crist's plans for budget deficit, unemployment, property taxes, healthcare, homeowners insurance, education system....
Fine, let Crist and Carole have their special day - but the publicity for the preparations leading up to this wedding is inappropriate and insensitive to the many struggling Floridians.
If Crist were a true public servant, sensitive to the plight of many Floridians and truly committed to working on the budget, he would call for the special session immediately and postpone this wedding until the legislature had solid solutions to present.
Were Crist to do this, he would prove (to me) that he is serious about getting Florida back on track, and not only interested in using the Gov office for a stepping stone to 2012.
Do the right thing, Charlie, honor your oath to office of Governor before anything else. If Carole really loves you she would understand, and perhaps admire you more for your integrity. Focus on Floridians now - they"ll remember in 2010/22012.

The Times needs to research the Governor's Ethics Code...EOG empoloyees cannot accept gifts over $25--not $100.

What is the Governor's plan to help independent contractors ans small businesses in Florida in this economy? They are already beginning to feel the stress of laying off people or not renewing licenses. It would be helpful to hear a plan for Florida's little guy/common man.

10:04...of for God's SAKE! please don't speak for all Floridians...most of us are self sufficient even in hard times and surely don't expect the rest of the world to put on a grim exterior when they have a moment of happiness just to make us "feel better"...what a world this is turning out to be.

Crist is marrying an unbeliever?
Posted by: | November 23, 2008 at 08:08 AM
My gift is going to the vivacious Carole. Lovey and I are giving Ms. Carole the most beautiful gold and diamond bracelet ever. The cost is $25k.
My room better overlook the Pier and waterfront, not those lepers in the park!

notice how Chuck's right arm seems to be keeping Rome at bay in the picture "don't stand so close to me".
And Chuck thought he was forced into this shotgun marriage because he needed legitimacy for the national stage (before the McCain meltdown on November 4th).
Ms. Rome thought she was going to be the next VP's wife.
Funny how life has a way of playing tricks on you Chuck and Carole!
Here, here! A toast to Mr and Mrs Charles Rome!

Poor Carole "McGreevy" Rome. She should run while she can.
Posted by: | November 23, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Both 10:04 and 8:02 are right.
(10:04) Florida is in terrible straits and where is Charlie? He's in California, at fundraisers, (was) traipsing behind McCain, living the good life with his rich soon-to-be wife.. i could go on and on.
(8:02) Charlie does deserve to display his happiness no matter the times, and it would not help to have him wringing his hands on TV, and postponing the wedding may send the wrong signal.
BUT... of the many articles about Ms. Rome and the wedding plans, Charlie does owe it to Floridians to be just as forthcoming about his plans to turn Florida around. Unfortunately, we are hearing nothing about Charlie's plans to lead the State, yet certainly hear an awful lot about the wedding plans. It really isn't the media fault; were Charlie governing strongly and decisively, releasing statements and giving interviews about the state of the State of Florida and what he plans to get Florida back on track, it would push articles such as this off the front page and Floridians would no longer think this is all he is about.
In 2010, I suspect Charlie is going to regret the abundance of feel good articles about his wedding and fiance, with very few articles about his leadership of Florida.

No gifts!
That is great for Florida's future (ethics and such) and great for the attendees.

no wonder Chuck the "schmuck" Crist is such good friends with Wexler, Gelber, Geller and takes so many trips to Israel.
Here's a matza ball for you Charlie!
Ps what are your plans for bailing Florida out of our current economic downtown amidst news last week the budget has to be cut another $2 billion and $6 billion for the next fiscal year?
Quote from Chuck Crist: "I'm optimistic blah blah blah". "Carole is the corporate jet ready to go? Can't miss the big fundraiser up in NY for Rudy impending Senate race!

Oh, give it a rest, He wants to get married, why not give him that? Can't you get over whatever it is that's eating on you and let him have a day?

I want to know when Chuck's actually going to give the "people" of the state of Florida something besides two more years of an empty chair Governorship!
We wish him well in his marriage but he ought to resign as Gov since he is so inept and our state badly needs new leadership who can solve the problems facing us, since Chuck doesn't have a clue and could care less.
Posted by: terminator | November 24, 2008 at 12:53 PM
i'm right there with ya, termie!
Crist has displayed no leadership, not even a hint on how he plans to solve Florida's economic troubles, and he hasn't even commented on last Friday's report that the budget is worse than we/he thought! Yet, we see article after article about his wedding, his fiance, following McCain around, 3 days in California on a climate summit, fundraisers, 2 first class trips disguised as trade missions - i don't think i need to list anymore. That isn't Governing - this is using the State of Florida for his and Carole's personal publicity machine, living the good life while NOT living up to the oath of the office of Governor.
Suggesting Crist resign actually seems quite reasonable now.... but he won't. He'll keep doing what he's doing until he isn't re-elected in 2010.

Since Semblers money got him elected and covered for his gay lifestyle and since Charlie and his family and the Semblers have the same common ground, the "SEED drug program" which Dr. Crist promoted and helped operate and both families took part in it, I am sure they (Mel and Betty Sembler) are on the list.
Of course Mel and Dr. Crist could have a few drinks where they have both been members of the Treasure Island Yacht Club and forgo a faux marriage.

Will he "let em eat cake"
Posted by: enough | November 24, 2008 at 06:12 PM
Some years ago I had spoken with a Times reporter about Charlie's drug use and relationships with the Semblers and Brent Sembler namely, i.e., "SEED drug program".
Surprise a small article ran within the past year in the back of the Times about "some" of Charlie's drug use.
How did I know this before Charlie confessed?
I have no problem with Charlie's drug use. Hell Clinton, Bush and Obama all have used drugs.
But Charlie needs to do what is simply right.
Either he is for the beating of children, starving them and child abuse and faux companies like Straight and SEED and "(Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. formerly Straight Inc.)" operated and or supported by his father and Mel and Betty Sembler or he is not!
I say protest this issue at the church during the "marriage".
Bradley Martin is dead as a direct result of this!
He would be alive today if someone had taken a stand and now it's Charlie's chance.
But he can't because hes been doing the Sembler "dance".
Posted by: rich | November 24, 2008 at 07:28 PM
All Charlie ever wanted was attention and power. He never had any intention of lowering our taxes or taking care of anyone but Charlie. Wake up Carol, you have been used and publicly humiliated. Go buy a real man.

The St Pete Times reported Monday that several gay organizations will be protesting at Charlies "wedding".
All the Straight and Sedd big shots will be there.
These are the folks who operated and supported these places.
it's your chance to get you word in and protest.
December 12th.
