Title: Suffer the Children unto the Wiz
Post by: ajax13 on January 11, 2008, 02:50:04 PM
At some point, we can only hope that the Wiz will be able to provide his unique form of treatment in utero.
This is a sample from an AARC newsletter:

"THE FACE OF ADOLESCENT ADDICTION IN ALBERTA
11…….age at which most teen addicts start drinking
13…….age at which most teen addicts first use drugs
12%…..Grades 7–9 students who have used cannabis in the last year
42%…..Grades 10–12 students who have used cannabis in the last year
16%…..youth who use cannabis who report signs of cannabis dependence
18%…..Grade 7 students who drink alcohol
81%…..Grade 12 students who drink alcohol
13%…..youth who drink who report signs of abusing alcohol
27,000..Alberta youth with substance abuse problems
2,746….adolescents admitted for treatment in Alberta each year
100%….family members affected by teen addiction
50%…...deaths of young people caused by substance abuse
88%……teen suicides caused by drug overdose
100%….adolescents who have stolen to feed their addiction
100%….drug addicts whose first drug use was alcohol or marijuana"

"Currently, the risk for suicide is highest among young white males. Yet from 1980 through 1995, suicide rates in the U.S. increased the most among young black males. Adolescent males of all races are four times more likely to commit suicide than females. From 1980-1997, males committed 84% of suicides for ages 15-19. Adolescent females are twice as likely as adolescent males to attempt suicide. In 1997, 27% of high school aged females and 15% of males seriously thought about suicide. Firearms (60%) and hanging (26%) were the most common methods of suicide used by young people in the U.S."

Apparently, if AARC is to be believed, 86% of teens overdose on rope or lead, 2% on other drugs.

Cannabis dependence????  Pffffft.  Sorry, no such thing.

I wonder if they have any credible sources AT ALL for those, (ahem, cough, sputter, stammer) "statistics".

"Family members effected - 100%"   Dun dun DUNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

"Deaths caused by substance abuse - 50%"??????  Half of all kids dying in Canada are dying of substance abuse?

"Percentage of kids who stole to support their "addiction" - 100%"???????    Very few kids are actually addicted to anything.  Christ, does Vause even understand the damn terminology?

"The Facts on Adolescent Suicide
Suicide is the second leading cause of death - following motor vehicle accidents - among teenagers and young adults. On average, adolescents aged 15 to 19 years have an annual suicide rate of 12 to 13 out of every 100,000 people. Among 12-to-16-year-olds, up to 10% of boys and 20% of girls have considered suicide. Gay and lesbian adolescents are 14 times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. Suicide rates are five to eight times higher among First Nations and Inuit teens."

Apparently, if AARC exists to head off teen suicide, curing homosexuality is a good place to start.  I mean, I hope that they continue to treat homosexuality.

"Girls generally attempt suicide more often than boys, but boys are about four times more likely to die from the suicide attempt. This is because the methods that boys choose - often using firearms or hanging - are more lethal than those chosen by girls, namely drug overdoses or cutting themselves"

88% commit suicide with drugs even though the methods most often used are firearms and hanging?

Again, AARC caught in a bald-faced lie.
