A kid I know (Kid B)'s friend (Kid A) got sent away for being gay.
Kid B is very upset (obviously) and it falls to me to unleash hell; however Kid B doesn't even know how to spell Kid A's last name, or Kid A's parents' names, or address, so I can't drop docs on Kid A's parents so fast their heads would spin.
I am PISSED.
Does anyone know what the program name might be? It's three weeks long, specifically directed at gays, full of isolation and religious bullcrap, and in either Georgia or Alabama. It's NOT Tennessee's Love In Action.

Well. In my experience pretty much any program will accept a student for that reason (or none at all). My advice is to get Kid B to ask Kid A's parents where he can send mail, or otherwise find out the name of the program. Dumpster dive if all else fails. You might be able to find correspondence with the program in the parent's trash.

This is a struggling teens map of America with programs from every state. Click on Georgia and Alabama to see what is available to the parents. If the place has a profile at all it may be on ST.
It sounds like the kid *may* be at a christian based place as I can only imagine that the kind of parent who would actually try and "cure" homosexuality would have a religious based bias and perhpahs seek out a religious place?
If this is the case perhaps it is a good idea to find to if they regularly worship somewhere. if this is the case perhaps the local pastor or parish priest may have a more enlightened view and be able to be the voice of reason. (It is a long shot but you never know)
Also check out the following "curing gay" websites. give them a ring and ask if they can "recommend" a place in AL or GA and see how you go.

Also recommend the counter argument to such horseshit with the following book. While as the title suggests it is about being gay and catholic the philosophy is generically christian and applicable to any denomination

This will almost certainly be Love in Action in Tennessee-- a Straight descendant, which I believe is supposed to no longer legally be able to "treat" youth.

the trouble is, there are soooo many possibilities. And if you know the name, what will you do? Break him out, by vivisting every possible progam and sneaking in with a flashlight?
You need to talk the kids parents, get more definite info, and work from there. Get them to understand the dangers of this industry.
So where are you with it?
