there is a lot of rules going on there that are being broken as i talked with my son and another one of his friends hes at the ranch with this past thanksgiving break, since most of the kids are ordered there by a judge we are scared as parents to speak out. how does one get an investigation started. they are being talked down by staff, isolated a large amount of time, physically abused, restrained on many occassions and according to my son half the staff are criminals themselves or alcoholics or drug addicts! what do i do i dont want to start trouble for my son to be discriminated against. The boys say they need to have the place investigated for a cpl days straight because whenever someone is there that is doing an inspection they are on their best behavior and one of the family members who is part of the owners family bragged about how they would like to see anyone try to shut them down. please help! i feel so stuck. :flame:

Storm Ridge Ranch fornits wiki entry (http://http://wiki.fornits.com/index.php?title=Storm_Ridge_Ranch)
It seems to be a troubled place. If the kids are courtordered, the parents have no choice but to visit them as often as possible because they are easy prey.

TAKE what you have in the form of documents and affidavits from parents and students and go to the judge who sent the kids there.
After this report back and tell us how this went. You might not even need an investigation as judges are human and have been known to be scammed on occasion.

I attended Storm Ridge Ranch in Marysvale, Utah for almost a year. There were a lot of bad things going on there while I was a resident. As mentioned before a number of the staff do have criminal records. A few of them come in smelling of alcohol, real nice for a 17 year old who has an alcohol problem. Having to hear from the staff that I shouldn't drink or do drugs when their breathe smells like a bottle of whiskey is just unacceptable "treatment" in my opinion. Some of the other staff at Storm Ridge commented to me while I was there about the smell of alcohol on a few of the staff. The Ranch does not do criminal background checks on their employees, I remember my "Counselor" telling me about spending time in Prison for selling drug; as much as I want to, I will not mention names. The Ranch pays their staff minimum wage and apparently does not have high standards. The ranch is in fact in the middle of nowhere, I can see why they have a problem finding suitable employees. I also witnessed another staff member PUNCH a 16 year old boy for not doing what he said. Restraining an out of control kid is one thing, but breaking his nose and making him lie about it in the emergency room is another thing. I'm fairly certain that some of the staff were drug users (I was there for substance abuse problems, so i would be the first person to know who's on drugs). I also witnessed a staff member call one of the African American residents a "Fat Cheeseburger eating 'N-word' ", this child had a severe obesity problem to begin with. I also received cigarettes from one of the staff members, I thought it was great at the time but in hindsight it didn't help. I also witnessed a 26 year old female staff member making out with a 17 year old resident, it was rumored that they were having sex, which I do not feel would be a long stretch. I have many stories, but the bottom line is that this place should not be allowed to operate. The only actual treatment that this program offers is in the form of a therapist for one hour, once a week. Which is outweighed by negative, antagonistic and sometimes abusive treatment the other 167 hours a week. I urge you to look elsewhere when looking for treatment for your troubled youth.

Repeated: … as much as I want to, I will not mention names.
If you are hesitant to name names here, you probably have your reasons. Would you consider making a statement to local authorities? Even if some time has passed since your time there, I cannot imagine that the entire staff roster has turned over. Each of the points you made are of egregious wrongdoings. Some of them are even criminal acts of violation. It would be helpful to anyone filing a complaint against Storm Ridge Ranch if there were statements from other witnesses. There is the possibility that local authorities could look into the emergency room records regarding the physical assault and proceed with an investigation from there.
