Title: First and last names..........still to this day.

I just got off the phone and it occurred to me about something most of us probably do without realizing it.  We refer to ourselves and others with our first and last names.  Most of this came from the oppressive state of things in Straight, once a fifth phaser knew your name, your ass was grass.  Still, when you have a warehouse full of people, it was the only way to keep all the faces in line.

What made me post this, was I got caught short by the answering machine again, and I stammered out my first and last name like I was on front row or something and after I hung up it kinda made me pissed.  I should not have had to leave my last name, yet after 23 years, the old habit took over.

Hi Bob, I always say my first name and that's it! When I say my last one, its like, "what did you say? How do you spell that? Is that with an E or R or U?"  :smokin:
