On tonight's "Larry King Live," the "Dancing with the Stars" star was blindsided by Larry King who asked if 16-year-old son Michael was in rehab. What would Brigham Young do?! She confirmed that he was admitted last week -- the same week Marie's father died at his home in Utah.

Anybody know which program?
FYI - Larry King is married to a woman of the Mormon faith.

-
OMG - where did Marie get her statistics? I hope she takes the time to educate herself because the statistics she quoted (75 % of kids under 18 apparently have some sort of problem) were not credited to any source that I recall her saying. WTH? She did say she has 8 kids and that this particular boy in rehab was adopted.
I presume the boy ended up in a rehab program in Utah.
Ugh. Sure would like to know which one and if he is doing a WT trek first.

Marie Osmond doesn't say which program.
So how is it YOU know?
Maybe you should call TMZ? Or the National Enquirer. They have done stories on celebrity kids in rehab before (WWASPS) (Provo Canyon).

I'm pretty sure someone already will have beat me to the punch. Besides, it's their personal business. When it comes out, then we can hate all over that place he's in, since that's what most of you love to do! Right???? All programs suck, and do no good whatsoever! LOL!!!
-
God CCM, you are so out to lunch, it isn't even funny anymore.
Personally, I believe it is their business - but the truth is - the youth rehab industry is unregulated and at least as dangerous as doing nothing for a kid who is alleged to need rehab. How about those statistics for deaths in Utah??? Shouldn't Marie and Larry at least be made aware there is another side to this industry?
Second, I wish you'd get off that high horse of yours and try looking at this issue without the fucking "attitude". You aren't stupid - you just choose to be blind. Why? This isn't about hating programs - it's about caring enough about children to stop making excuses for abuse.

I would like to compare statistics. Here are the numbers for Denmark (Age group 13-15).
The European School Survey Project on alcohol and other drugs - The numbers for Denmark (2003) (http://http://www.espad.org/sa/node.asp?node=652)
Drinking alcohol at least one time during the last 12 months: 95%
Been drunk at least one time during the last 12 months: 82%
Ever been smoking normal tocacco: 64%
Smoking the last 30 days: 30%
Have tried marijuana or hashish in lifetime: 23%
Same question about other drugs: 6%
Same question about inhalants: 8%
Same question about using others doctor prescription drugs: 4%
Been using alcohol combined with pills: 7%
No alarming numbers but numbers, which should ensure recruitment for the night owls (http://http://www.natteravnene.dk/files/engelsk_folder_om_natteravnene.pdf), because if the youngster are having emotional problems while drinking or smoking, there should be adults outthere to talk with them.
What are your numbers?

Man, in reading the comments on TMZ's board it sounds like Marie Osmond is takingsome heat for perhaps being more interested in winning the Dancing With THe Stars contest than taking care of her 8 kids, 5 of whom are adopted. This news about an Osmond kid being in a treatment program may help to shine a spotlight on this industry given Marie Osmond's high profile - but it could also backfire. Her brothers all publicly endorsed Mitt Rommey for Prez on Larry King Live. Marie is still "researching". Wonder if we will ever find out what program this kid got sent to and whether it's in Utah?
CCM - can you at least tell us if the program is in Utah? I think that's probably a given since that's probably where the kid lives but it would be nice to confirm.
-
Gunter Hallowgreen known from the novel "The Smell", Angela Burns and Rick Norman known from the novel "Career Choice" and "Vacation gone awry" have all posted there.
Gunter have been busy. I saw his comment in the Life section of USAtoday oddly enough also about the Osmond story.
Kind of funny.
-
Google is revealing quite an interesting backstory since the LKL show aired last night. Don't know what's true or false, but a lot of speculation about her daughter coming out bi and her son might be gay and that's why he got sent to rehab.

parents don't usually choose a treatment program in their hometown, do they?

Plenty of kids were put into Straight who lived minutes from "the building."
I'm sure programs that still use "host homes" operate in the same way.
-

Well, no. But then every state doesn't have programs. A lot of kids in Tx go to Tx programs.
I think it's likely because they live in a state that has a very high number of programs, and they have industry connections. I'm sure the first person she called was Rob Diaz.

Must be, and going back a long time. Liahona Academy in Utah is run by members of the AhQuin family -- mormons of Hawaiian descent that have been in Utah for several generations. Several AhQuins work or have worked in other Utah programs too.
So what's the cultural predisposition that biases a certain group of people toward imprisonment & behavior modification of teenagers? Is that a Pacific Islander thing or is it a Mormon thing?

Seems that there is a strong mormon/utah connection that explains the presence of programs in Hawaii and Samoa.
-
It's the Mormon connection that does it- Hawaiian natives have nothing in their culture that predisposes them to this sort of thing.

I am not aware that it is a pacific Islander thing. The maori and tongan cultures are seen in this part of the world for being pretty family oriented , having a history of the same sort of troubles as many post colonial cultures and in the case of Maoris having a warrior background and a talent for rugby. Obviously any culture has stereotypes and myths that grow around them though.
I would not make the assumption that cruelty is related to any one cultural or religious group. I would say that 2 things that the mormon based programs have in common with their Christian cousins are the idea that young people are universally bad people and that their own rigidly conservatvie world view is the only one that holds any moral weight or social validity.
I have spoken to many who have a conservative religious world view be it mormon or other christianwho are not so arrogant to assume that those without their picture of the world should be punished.

Somehow the mother made the wrong choice of facility when trying to "cure" her son.
Marie Osmond's Son Commits Suicide, TMZ (http://http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/27/marie-osmond-son-commits-suicide-michael-blosil/)
It is the old story yet again about some parents dealing with the symptoms instead of what caused them.
It is just sad.
-
Somehow the mother made the wrong choice of facility when trying to "cure" her son.
Oscar, you stated the mother made "the wrong choice" yet your link (the facts) state that her son suffered from a life-long battle with depression. How does this relate to a specific facility, treatment or doctor? How do you know all the steps his mother took to help her son? His stay in the program may have prolonged his life and may have been the best decision she made to try to help him. In fact the time line shows that the program he attended was very affective in prolonging his life.
It is the old story yet again about some parents dealing with the symptoms instead of what caused them.
It is just sad.
You don’t seem to be very familiar with the struggles of depression.

Marie Osmond's Son Commits Suicide (http://http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/27/marie-osmond-son-commits-suicide-michael-blosil/)
Posted Feb 27th 2010 2:34PM by TMZ Staff
Marie Osmond's teenage son committed suicide last night, this according to law enforcement.
Michael Blosil, one of Osmond's eight children, jumped from his downtown Los Angeles apartment building.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Michael left behind a note that said he intended to commit suicide due to a life-long battle with depression.
An autopsy will be performed and toxicology tests will be taken.
Donny Osmond released a statement that says: "Please pray for my sister and her family."
Donny and Marie canceled their show in Las Vegas tonight.

A good friend of Marie Osmond was Rob Dias, founder / owner of Diamond Ranch Academy. I don't know whether Marie's son Michael Blosil ended up there, but it's certainly worth consideration.
-
R u a troll, too, or a bit imperceptive momentarily?
"This" does not relate to a specific “doctor, or treatment program,” "this" relates to the kidnap and thought reform gulag archipelago. Chances are, Osmond imprisoned her son in a torture- cult. Read the thread from the beginning.
Chances are, Marie killed her son, just as John D Reuben (Whooter, 90% probability) killed his son.
Do you think Marie will start “referring” “parents” to the same torture- cult that killed her son, as John David Reuben “refers” “parents” to the same torture -cult that killed his, via a pseudo-charity Ponzi scheme?
(John David Reuben runs a "charity" that provides “donations” to the for-profit limited liability corporation, Aspen Education Group --division of Bain capital, CRC health-- through STICC (saving teens in crisis). This corporation, AEG, has stipulated under oath that it provides no treatment for mental health or drug problems)
Think Marie’s gulag also specified in its contracts that it does not provide therapeutic treatment, as did the torture- cult that killed John D Reuben’s son, Aspen Education Group? Read the small print, folks. If the gulag you contract to imprison your kid specifies it will provide therapeutic services "according to program design," that means it has no responsibility to provide therapeutic services as understood by any medical body, apparently. Call Aspen Education Group or any torture cult, Today! Transform your kid into a corpse, just like Marie and John D Reuben transformed theirs! Then turn his body into a marketing scheme, just like John D Reuben! You know ya’ want to!

Lets look at the time line:
During 2006 he attempted to take his life and the family enrolled him in an "out patient" program close to home with the support of his family doctor. He never improved very much and actually deteriorated thru 2007 where he attempted to take his life again. Realizing that they cannot protect him from himself 24/7 in mid 2007 at the insistence of his family doctor and medical professionals from his local hospital he was enrolled in a 14 month program in which he participated and graduated on time. During his stay he improved quickly and managed his life problems with lower doses of medication than he had in the past several years. The years after graduation were the happiest for him. The tools he acquired during his time in the program allowed him to easily manage his dark moments until an unfortunate event occurred (a tragedy in his life) in late 2009 which caused him to once again spiral back into a dark depression. He was treated via local services and medication but nothing seemed to help. He eventually took his life in February 2010.
He was actually one of the lucky ones. The program was able to save this boys life and place him on a safe and healthy track. It is unfortunate that his life was met with tragedy which affected his illness deeply and set it on an irreversible path.
Between 1,500 and 2,000 teenagers take their lives each year in the United States. If you see the signs like this mother did you can get your child the help he or she needs. Work with your locol options first before pursuing a solution off-site .

People can we just set aside whether we are a Whooter fan or not and just investigate this sad event. Was it Diamond Ranch's influence, his mothers (Marie) neglect or his acute depression. It may just be all three. Jeesh, Whooter does bring some credible points to the discussion. I mean we have folks here having scream out first their lack of loyalty to him first before they can express their opinion. Who gives a shit, if he has a good point......then he has a good point. It shouldn't make a difference if a like him or not. This also seems like a issue of whether there is trust or not, once again we can just focus I the content of the message.
He just may be here to cause mayhem amongst us, well sometimes that maybe exactly what the doctor ordered to maintain our pledge/cause. I need a little confrontation or agitation to keep me from getting condescending/arrogant. Helps me to keep open to other point of views (even if their bought, lobbied, their working for another entity or just plain trolling).
I am very interested in getting more information on this, Ursus we know for a fact that Rob Diaz was a "good friend" of Marie or just a friend (acquaintance) that she knew or somebody that she knew that knew him. There is a big difference in the implication. Just asking????? That's all.
I don't make any excuses for parents that don't properly investigate the treatment center/schools their sending their children to. Just wanted that on the record.

Excerpt from Joe Lando's Guest Appearance (http://http://www.joelando.org/dandm.html) on the 'Donny and Marie Show' on Friday, February 4, 2000:
<snip>
Marie: Now you really enjoy -- the show Higher Ground -- what is it based on?
Joe: It's based on schools that really exist all around the world, um kind of an outward bound program. My character's name is Peter Scarbrow, he's a recovering addict, seven years sober and the show picks up seven years into his sobriety while he's running the school of 150 kids, all high risk teens, kids who have had quite a few problems, incest, and it's set in the Pacific Northwest, beautiful scenery ...
Marie: And like you say, there are camps like this all over ...
Joe: All over - we visited ---
Marie: We have a clip from the show.
Joe: Great.
Marie: Do you need to set it up or shall we just watch it?
Joe: I think the clip will explain it.
Donny: Okay here we go.
(Shows clip of Peter telling Scott the rules of Mt. Horizon from the first episode "no drugs, no sex, no inappropriate touching and there's no violence.")
Donny: That's a very interesting concept.
Joe: These girls are going to love that actor in that scene too, Hayden Christensen, he's just a wonderful actor and a really good guy and I think he's going to be somebody, somebody big.
Donny: A good buddy of mine, Rob Dias, does this very thing that you're doing. He has a school for troubled teens, there's quite a few of them around the country.
Joe: We visited a few in Northern Idaho and a few around here in Southern California.
Marie: Do you base your stories off of true stories?
Joe: All the kids are real stories and we've taken a license with what goes on from day to day obviously, but they are all based on real people. My character's just a collection of people who we met.
Marie: So you have characters come and go and all that kind of thing?
Joe: Well, there's 150 students and we really center our stories on 6 or 7 of them, Cliffhangers they're called, that's the group.

When Michael Blosil went in for "rehab," there was a fair amount of speculation that it was actually due to his choice of sexual orientation, which his mother, Marie Osmond, had a real problem with. Whether that is in fact true, or whether it is but part of a larger picture involving other issues as well ... I haven't a clue.
This was right on the heels of a little scandal involving two of her daughters' MySpace accounts. The older one identified herself as being bi-sexual, probably another no-no in Marie's book. Incidentally, according to an archived version (http://http://photos.imageevent.com/revolution/osmonds/osmondchild.html) of this daughter's MySpace page (2006), Jessica Blosil also belonged to a MySpace group called "DRA," with the same group ID number as for this one: http://groups.myspace.com/DRA (http://groups.myspace.com/DRA) (groupID=100106985).

Rob and Sherrie Dias seem to be a interesting couple, extremely wealthy if I am reading their bio correctly. The Dias family is a conglomerate it appears. Ricky Dias is I guess a relative, somehow.
Heal has very interesting testimonies from former students. Diamond Ranch if what they are saying is true (which I don't doubt) is just another institution that believes punishing people is the only way to rehab. Problem is it appears punishing is addictive, the lazy/untrained counselors way of dealing with troubled teenagers. Plus it saves you money as owners.

Marie Osmond Son: Suicide Note Shows Sadness (http://http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/28/marie-osmond-son-suicide-note-michael-blosil-roommate-friend-depression-building/)
Posted Feb 28th 2010 8:30AM by TMZ Staff
Marie Osmond's son, Michael, left a suicide note for a woman who lived in his apartment building, and shortly after she retrieved it she heard the ominous sirens below .. law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
We're told Michael Blosil was supposed to hang out with the woman Friday night, but left her a text just before 9 PM, telling her he had left a note for her in his apartment.
The woman went to Michael's apartment and his roommates let her in. Sources say the group found the note, which said, among other things the woman was his only good friend in L.A. and he was very unhappy.
The note also mentioned things he would be doing for the very last time. It did not mention suicide, but law enforcement sources tell us it was clear ... that is exactly what it was.
The roommates, who up until that point knew nothing was wrong, and the woman became alarmed, but very shortly thereafter they heard sirens and saw emergency vehicles on the street and figured out what happened.
We're told ... from the time the woman got Michael's text to the time they heard sirens ... it was a very short time span.

Three years ago, one jolt after another hit Marie Osmond's family: the singer divorced her husband of 20 years, her father died at age 90, and her teenage son Michael went into rehab.
By 2008, Osmond and her eight children had left Utah and the home she had shared with her ex Brian Blosil, headed for a new life in Las Vegas, her career rejuvenated by her appearance in 2007 on Dancing with the Stars.
It was a fresh start for her son Michael, too.
Back in 2007, the teen spent time in rehab for substance abuse. At the time, Osmond's brother Donny told PEOPLE that his sister had been dealing with Michael's issues "for a very long time."
But by 2008, Michael, a talented musician and high school senior, appeared to be doing better: Mom boasted in her book Might As Well Laugh About It that he "had been accepted into a performing arts program for high school students."
Last fall, he enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. One of Michael's close friends says he "was happy" and "loved" L.A. – and the move made Osmond happy, too.
"Wow, I'm proud of that kid!" she Tweeted in October. "He really took charge of his future."
That included giving himself a new last name: Michael (who, like four of his siblings, was adopted) legally changed his last name recently from Blosil to Bryan.
PEOPLE has learned the teen was estranged from his music-producer father and that the pair had not spoken for months.
His new last name will appear on his death certificate – Michael committed suicide by jumping from the eighth-floor balcony of his downtown Los Angeles apartment.
"We've received notification from his attorney that his name was changed, so we've changed our documentation," L.A. County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter says.
Osmond family members and sources would not discuss in detail the problems between Michael and his father, and Blosil declined to comment to PEOPLE on his son's death.
Osmond, who had visited Michael often in L.A., "is absolutely devastated," Dancing partner Jonathan Roberts tells PEOPLE, recalling how the singer visited her son during his stint in rehab. Says Roberts, "We'd stop our lessons so she could call. She would always make time for her kids. She is such a good mother."
Notes the family friend, "Marie knew Michael was troubled, but I don't think she ever thought he would take his life."

Marie Osmond's Son Was Estranged from Father at Time of Suicide (http://http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20352473,00.html)

At the funeral for Michael Bryan, Marie Osmond's 18-year-old adopted son who had committed suicide, there was one family member noticeably absent: the teenager's father, Brian Blosil.
Michael had grown estranged from his father in recent years to the point he had petitioned to legally change his last name from "Blosil" to "Bryan."
"My relationship with my father while I lived at [home] was extremely strained," Michael wrote in an Aug. 28, 2009, petition for a name change with the Utah Country Court. "At the present time, I have no relationship with my father and have no desire to continue to carry his last name."
His request was granted on March 1 and his death certificate refers to him as "Michael Bryan."
The reason for the estrangement isn't immediately known; Blosil, reached by phone by PEOPLE, declined to comment, and a rep for Osmond also didn't comment.
Michael wasn't the only Osmond sibling to have a troubled relationship with Blosil, whom Osmond divorced in 2007 after 20 years of marriage, with Osmond getting sole custody and visitation rights for Blosil.
Osmond's 22-year-old daughter Jessica applied to drop "Blosil" – and take the name of "Osmond" – in a motion filed in January with the same Utah County court.
"While I lived with my parents, my relationship with my father, Brian Blosil, was extremely strained," she wrote in her name change affidavit. "At the present time, I have no relationship with my father and have no desire to continue to carry his last name. ... I wish to be known by my mother's surname, Osmond."
She was granted the name change on March 5, one week after Michael's death.
Another of Marie's seven surviving children, Rachael Blosil, 20, spoke of their father during the funeral service for Michael, held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel in Provo, Utah.
"A couple of years ago I asked Michael to give me away at my wedding," she told mourners. "For those of you who don't know the situation, my father and I don't get along too well, so I figured since [Michael] knew me the best, he should have that right."
