If a person wanted to quote the stats below (20-50,000), who would they cite? NATSAP, Aspen, TheWho? That's quiet a jump from 10,000 to 50,000.
NATSAP is now a thriving and growing organization with 142 member programs serving nearly 10,000 youth annually.
Jan Moss, executive director of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, said the industry wants state regulation. Her group represents 180 facilities that serve 16,000 children.
Of the 20,000 kids going thru programs each year I am sure (based on a purely statistical stand point) there are some that shouldn’t be there and these kids could potentially sue their parents.
20,000 kids a year attend these schools and we have a handful of people who post here who had bad experiences, with the majority of the information dating back 30 years.
20,000 to 30,000 kids a year benefit from the industry and a handful do not and this is how they justify their position.
Well, "the proof is in the pudding "... as they say. Between 20,000 and 50,000 kids are successfully helped each year by these programs and have moved on with their lives.
-
Reminds me of Scientology bragging about its recruitment numbers.
It's make-believe, much like everything else on NATSAP. Especially after the GAO hearings. Shitpits won't report stark reductions to NATSAP, NATSAP won't report shitpit closings or even acknowledge them. The real number is likely significantly less than 10,000- and almost certainly dropping.

Some speculate that they expect those numbers to double over the next decade..... so if the numbers are 20,000 then we could expect to see 40,000. If the present numbers are closer to 50,000 then we could expect to see 100,000!!!
That is a lot of kids. Hopefully they weed out (thru regulation or exposure) the less desirable programs before we reach that plateau.

Those that do will probably make out very well, those that did made a killing.

NATSAP represents a small number of programs. The number of youth served are higher than any estimate given in this thread.

I heard someone mention there were 400 -500 programs presently? NATSAP represents less than half of them.

Bain Capitol?

The number is likely going to go up drastically, judging from the healthy P&L's for CRC/Aspen Education Group. And there are exploding numbers of kids being diagnosed with autism, learning disorders, ADHD, etc. for example, 20 years ago, 1 in 10,000 kids in school had autism, now it's 1 in 150. Those who end up in the Juvenile Justice system, or for whom inclusion doesn't work well, will probably end up in RTC at some point, unless parents and schools can figure out a better way to keep these kids in their communities.
And I think Aspen/CRC and Universal Health Services have positioned themselves quite well to take advantage of this phenomenon:

Lookie the shill reply to itself! Lookie lookie!
The last credible list I saw was one of about 300, and that contained duplicates, programs long since shut down, and things that were not actually programs.
Requesting actual credible list. Deb?

WOAH!! Look at the first paragraph!
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) announced today that its reported net income was $28.9 million, or $.54 per diluted share, during the third quarter of 2007 as compared to $113.9 million, or $2.00 per diluted share, during the comparable prior year quarter. For the nine months ended September 30, 2007, reported net income was $130.4 million, or $2.43 per diluted share, as compared to $225.3 million, or $3.89 per diluted share, during the comparable nine-month period in the prior year.
Net income for this quarter dropped 75% from last year! Pure ownage, and hardly the sign of a growing company.
-
Even if we were to accept the lowest figure of 10,000, what explanation is there for the extremely small sample of abuse victims that report a negative experience? Statistical debates don't help the anti-program side, because it helps put things in perspective. You guys are better off sticking to the graphic abuse stories if you want to change minds. I suggest you focus on the children who were raped, or tortured, and then try to make people believe that happens to every kid in a program. If I were you, that is the strategy I would use. You will lose the numbers game everytime.

Care to explain why fornits only has forums for about a dozen program then? Using your own numbers, you have shown that the large majority of programs are safe, with no reports of abuse. Don't you just love the numbers debate, it helps people realize how rare abuse is. Fornits represents a vocal minority, and you are helping point that out.

don't be fooled by just looking at net income, you have to look at net revenues and also the deductions that go into that net income line. And don't misinterpret my intentions in posting this information as did the previous poster, I am not happy about these numbers, I am very concerned about the growth in the industry:
Net revenues increased 13% to $1.18 billion during the third quarter of 2007 as compared to $1.04 billion during the third quarter of 2006. Net revenues increased 14% to $3.56 billion during the first nine months of 2007 as compared to $3.13 billion during the comparable nine-month period of 2006.

Yup, the extremely small number consisting of... pretty much everything on every forum on this board (excepting, of course, the hopeless arguments with shills), all of Anti-WWASP, all of ISAC, the GAO getting completely flooded by so many allegations of abuse they had to expand their investigations to an entirely new second round, the assorted pissed survivors that keep popping up all over Myspace, Facebook, Wikipedia talk pages...
Oh yeah, that's an extremely small number all right.
Parents, this man wants control of YOUR children, etc.

Parents, this man wants control of YOUR children, etc.
And they pay extremely well, and thank us everyday for the service we provide. If you are so concerned about abusive programs, why don't you start your own that is safe? You just whine all day and expect things to get done, the world does not work that way.

Since the items included or excluded from these measures are significant components in understanding and assessing financial performance under GAAP, these measures should not be considered to be alternatives to net income as a measure of our operating performance or profitability. Since these measures, as presented, are not determined in accordance with GAAP
El Oh the fucking El.
How would you like your books, sautee'd, fried, or boiled?
I try to think of other companies that used to do this, and a certain California energy company just keeps coming up...
