Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Hanzo, you know as well as I do, that there are different kinds of intelligence.  For that matter, just how SMART is it of Mr. Smartypantsattorney Withasixfiguresalary, Esq. to go shipping off his scions to some mindrape mill called Cramitdownyerthroat Acadamy based on the "professional" say-so of Ms. Therapist Withoutacluebutigetlotsofbonuses, eh?

Pfftttt!

And the "licensed professionals" they get shipped off to!  SettleForNothing had an experience with a bold bag of hair gel calling himself a "psychologist" (not licensed, mind you) who cornered her in the time-out room to inform her that if she thought she could outsmart the program and leave, she was very wrong.  Settle, I believe you said he laid that bit o' boo'shit on you shortly before you left PV.  Tsk, tsk, "Doc"...maybe if you hadn't done your internship at the YMCA while pursuing buggery first and foremost, you might have picked up the glimmer of a clue.

I don't get it........

I wasn't in a program either, so I had to ask my step daughter about being on "spoon".  At PV, kids only get to use a spoon when there's a concern the patient might do some self harm, like cutting.  Kids on this level of observation also aren't allowed to use ballpoint pens, either, only felt markers.  It seems to be more of a punishment at PV for not "getting with the program".  All my step daughter's letters were in marker, except for a level raise that lasted one week, then she was part of an insurrection against staff, a mass questioning of the program that led to serious reprisals against the rebels.  I guess that kind of disobedience is the worst threat to a BM program like PV.

I was so proud.  What kind of sick society wants to program kids to blind obedience through violence, meds, and the Orwellian "1+1=3"-style of breaking their minds?  My step daughter didn't belong in PV and she was aware of that, and she wouldn't cave in despite six months of seclusion, medical neglect, poor nutrition and over medication.

You can't fix what isn't broken, but PV did damage to her through "therapy" that will last a lifetime.  I get glimpses of it, even though she tries to put the PV time behind her.  She seems terrified of being alone, a result of being isolated, I guess.

Being 'in a program' isn't a requirement.  Just a tragic experience.
What bothers me the most is how much worse this got over the years.
We didn't have sporks or moldy food or people 'bolting' for freedom or being drugged into submission for that matter.
There were occasionally physical confrontations/restraints.  Never saw anybody abused in any way-physically...
I will say, there was a change in the 'medical treatment'.  All complaints were taken more seriously and investigated; treated as if serious, investigated by staff and then recommendations were made
ie.,  I have chronic orthopedic problems.  During the end of my program, I got hurt and needed surgery.  I should mention that I had been started over and they warned me that if I was lying:  "...we'll break  both your legs!"!
I should also mention that I never went back after that:  I turned 18 while I was having the surgery and went back (as promised) to finish my program.  My choices were not good ones.  Because I was 18, if I came back I'd have to sign for myself and if I didn't 'make it' through this time, I would go to jail.
In case I have to actually say this:  I am not going to jail.  ever.  for anything.
I even flunked 'programming'.  Couldn't even get that right...
Never graduated the program.  Or HS, which I suspect may have been the more useful of the 2 things
There were also no pens/pencils, papers - not needed for anything in group, and that's where ya were -  all the time
