Harbor Oaks Boarding School has been determined to be neglectful by the State of North Carolina.
This facility has been placed on ISAC's Watch List.
http://www.isaccorp.org/documentsam.asp#harboroaks (http://www.isaccorp.org/documentsam.asp#harboroaks)
Reportedly, Sue Scheff/PURE refers children to this facility; and Scheff's daughter works at this facility as a "counselor."
Isabelle Zehnder reportedly admitted to referring a student from Carolina Springs Academy to Harbor Oaks Boarding Schools; and claims she personally interviewed this facility to verfify it as a safe facility.

How old are the Jones? They remind me of Bob and Betty Wills from Mountain Park, but Betty was 66 in 2004 and Patricia doesn't look that old. Never can tell, though, her face may have so much Botox in it she can't even snarl while she's practicing her Clinical Christian Psychology. The sound of it gives me the creeps...
"I'm afraid I have homo-sixual urges, Sister Pat,"
"Don't worry about it, child. Satan's a sissy-boy, too. You'll be surrounded by degenerates like yourself - as you burn, squealing like pigs over a spit in the ghetto part of hell, Sodomite. That's the way Jesus wants it,"
Sorry if I offended any Christians, but Christian Psychology seems like it would have a very limited amount of acceptable treatments.
I was looking through depositions from Mountain Park, the exchanges between Oscar Stilley and the now deceased son of an evil, hell-spawned, obnoxious bitch named John Oliver give good insight into how a good Christian lawyer like Oliver deals with a good Amish boy like Oscar:
MR. OLIVER:, come on. That's the subject
of the juvenile thing, Oscar. I mean, you are a
sneaky son of a bitch.
MR. STILLEY: We don't have evidence of that,
now, do we?
MR. OLIVER: You are a sneaky little bastard,
and I think we ought to quit. And I would ask Mr.
Baker to stop the deposition. I mean, this is
beyond.
A friend who was deeply involved with the Mountain Park case would mention John Oliver's name and quickly tag "he's dead now" on the end, sort of a charm to ensure his evilness stays dead.
I want to read some more about Jim and Patricia Jones. I mean, damn it, would you turn your kids over to a guy named Jim Jones? They'll definitely be drinking the Kool-Aid.

i hear of kids in some of these religious places calling the staff Sister or Brother when they are not ordained nuns or religious brothers in the Catholic sense. Can someone please explain why this practice? is it some kind of evangelical thing like WWJD bracelets? Apologies if this question is kind of stupid but i am not familiar with the practice

Maybe they are going for a false sort of incestual inbreding sort of thing?

WWJD? What's that about? I thought it meant "Willie Wonka Just Died,"
-
I think it's a view that they are all brothers and sisters in Christ. However in reality it's more like the staff are brothers and sisters and the kids are punching bags. The gusto some of these brothers and sisters beat kids with has fetish written all over it.

Well yeah that would make sense in a creepy kinda way if the kids were made call each other this or if just the adults did it. But as you pointed out these programs dont really make the pretence of equality
-
I don't know if this is related or not.. but, typically in the mormon faith..
church members refer to eachother as brother & sister. You actually address them as Sister Jane or Brother Jack.
-
Same with Baptist and Pentecostal
-
My new cell phone's number belonged to a local Knoxville Reverend before me. I get all these interesting messages, and occasionally I answer and someone asks for "Brother S____". I've started to screw with the callers a bit...they think I'm the preacher and ask if I remember talking to them about such-and-such, and I reply 'No...no, brother, I gotta tell ya, I was pretty damn high when we discussed that matter. Why don't you swing by the Church and we'll roll some bones and catch a fire while you refresh my fuckin' memory, brother,"

Here's the BIO of the Dean of Boys at Harbor Oaks.
NOTE: each position appears to always be a "couple," rather than an individual.
Vince and Dana Brown, Deans of Boys
Vince’s last ministry position included an assignment as Special Projects Manager at the Hope Center in Murfreesboro, TN. His work included grant writing, Community Café and the Homeless Taskforce for Murfreesboro. He also served as a counselor and staff member of the Lazarus Project, a twelve month rehabilitation program for men. Vince completed his undergraduate work in political science at the University of Memphis while lettering in baseball. Vince has also been ordained in the office of Chaplain. He is also the father of three, Joshua (14), Destinee (9) and, Summer (7).
Dana has 17 years management experience in retail and corporate organization settings. She is a mother of two boys, ages 8 and 19, and is finishing her Bachelor’s degree in business management through Austin Peay State University and plans on pursuing her Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology through Cornerstone University. “My goal is to help the students at HOBS to build character, help them to be productive citizens in order to prepare them for the real world and to be the best spiritual stepping stone that I can be for each of them.â€

Probably the same way Tori Spelling became ordained which was through the interenet.
Studying at a seminary isn't the only way to become an ordained minister. You can sign up on a web site and immediately be a minister. Not everyone finds the Web's path legitimate from a spiritual perspective, but it's usually legal in the United States.
Perhaps the most popular instant-minister organization is the Universal Life Church (ULC). The ULC used to advertise in the back of magazines like Rolling Stone. All you had to do was mail in a self-addressed stamped envelope in order to become a minister. With the advent of the Internet, you're only a few clicks away from holy orders.
It really amounts to a bunch of nothing.

Our History
Harbor Oaks was formed in the hearts of our directors, Jim and Patricia Jones long before it began in reality. For more than thirty years, they have worked in ministry with children and youth, successfully raising two children of their own. Their passion for the angry, lonely, and abused has enabled them to reach out to hundreds of children and teens and make a tremendous impact on their lives.
Both Jim and Pat are ordained ministers and Licensed Certified Pastoral Counselors. Both are certified in the field of Suicide Prevention.
Pat is a Licensed Forensics Counselor with a specialty in Anger Management and Domestic Violence. Both Jim and Pat have spent several years facilitating Parent and Teen Conferences and addressing various issues on Life Management skills and Parent/Teen Relationships.
Pat’s former work in a behavioral hospital, as well as her special training, has enabled her to effectively spot and address serious issues such as depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, and self-injury.
Pat Jones serves as Administrator/Principal of the school (Certified through School of Tomorrow). She monitors the academic success of each student and works closely with the teachers and assistants on a daily basis. Pat has a master of science and a doctorate degree in Clinical Christian Psychology.
There's that "ORDAINED" word again - both are ordained ministers.
What's a Pastoral Counselor?
Sister Pat is a Licensed Pastoral Counselor; a Licensed Forensic Counselor; claims years of experience in running conference. No wonder she can just "SPOT" serious emotional problems!
Wow! Pat has a Masters and PhD in Clinical Christian Psychology, TOO?
No mention of a University? Think that School of Tomorrow (sounds like a Day Care Center) hands out graduate degrees?
Think Sue Scheff has been "ORDAINED" as anything by these folks, yet?

Its another common thread with these people. Miller Newton is now Father Cassian Newton in the Anitoch church. I've been contacted by a few people who are appalled that he was able to buy his priesthood (he donated a shitload of property to 'the church' and Bingo Bango, you're a "priest" ) and further appalled that he's able to "cousel" people this way even though he's been run out of every state he's tried to open up a clinical practice in. So he did what he always does. He found a creative way around those pesky regulations.

Licensed and certified by who?
Funny how they leave out all the details and only focus on the "buzz" words.
