Title: Academy at Cedar Mountain, UT help
Post by: Eclectic on August 28, 2007, 03:36:13 PM
Does anyone have information on the parent's names or attorneys who represented the parents who pulled their children from the Academy at Cedar Mountain, UT after a bad situation on an outing got a counselor fired and caused many parents to pull their children just over three years ago? We pulled our son with a promise of a refund, and still have received nothing. The academy does not return our letters or calls. Please respond to my email directly at eclectic@spyderwebb.com as I do not follow this forum. Thank you.

Good luck. You probably will need an attorney to get a refund.
What are the details of the incident that caused a counselor to get fired and parents to pull thier kids? Is this in the media? How are you privy to it?

The counseler according to another post was Bernie Farrow. Isn't he the one connected to Scheff/Zehnder, I can't find where I saw it in just the past few days.
I would say that the contract may read that there are no refunds, please tell us more.

Eclectic.....are you one of the parents that was upset at the whistleblowers or upset with Cedar Mountain for what they did to your child?  That wasn't clear in your post under LIFE.

I found this in PBand C,
Under Positive solutions.
Maybe she's doing more referrals than she's fessed up to?
Didn't Izzy fess up to that one kid from TB? The one girl from Carolina Springs that she sent to her buddies Scheff and Bernie at Harbor Oaks in NC? And she was chatting about Sorenson's Ranch by email, right?
Yea, she referred Patti to Scheff/PURE and Sunrise Transports; but no

Apparently this Bernie Farrow, has been to several locations, he did not have a phd as he claimed.

Thanks to feedback from a moderator and others here, I did get some additional information, but nothing on the other parents or attorneys involved.

The Academy at Cedar Mountain, UT was sold back in January 2005 following a serious exodus of their students during the latter half of 2004. I spoke with the new administrators who are aware of the prior problems that resulted in so many children being pulled by parents unhappy with that school, but other than giving the prior owner’s names and contact information they have no prior obligations. They said it took considerable work to clean up the mess that they inherited and that was more than enough. One of the three prior owners indicated they passed on all prior obligations when the school was sold. My attorney had already told me that was not true, and when I confronted that owner he passed me off to his partner who so far has not returned my calls. As to what happened, hopefully it is all spilt milk long repaired by the new staff and owners.

Personally, my issues are two fold, our son was not helped and continues to desperately struggle with his learning disabilities, plus I spent mere $35,000 in tuition which the school director promised would be fully refunded. That administrator said the owners, school insurance firm, and attorney had reviewed the incidents that caused the problems, and offered each of the upset families a full tuition refund in lieu of litigation. We accepted that verbal offer but the administrator soon was gone and the school sold.

I then took a couple year break due to some serious health problems and am just now getting back on my feet and trying to pickup pieces. My son really could use that money as his learning disabilities have after two years of trying left him unable to get through even a single academic class in junior college so he is most likely needing to go to a trade school.

Have you checked with the county clerk? Might be able to find them through court documents.

Can you explain what happened, or are you intentionally avoiding that?
