I'll attempt to descibe this best I can. I open up some browser tabs as usual (in order to view latest posts on a given forum) and they seem to load fine except for the fact that the little wheel doesn't stop moving, which is the browser's way of tell me, the user, that the page hasn't fully loaded yet.... This just started today. What makes this even weirder is that I have java turned off so I have no clue as to what may be the cause. I'm letting you all know about this now before it potentially gets worse somehow...
-
I've experienced this in the past, but seemingly bad earlier today (seems okay now). I'm on FireFox, Java turned on.
-
Yes it seems ok now.
-
It's probably just one image file or some such that's not loading. Does it happen on all pages or just particular posts? Some of those off site avatars and other stuff could be the problem.

All pages, and it's not doing it all now.. makes me think it had to be something else.

Same for me (all pages previously, not doing it now)...

What I've noticed today is pages opening slower and messages are slow to post.
Also the past week, several times I would refresh the page and scroll down the index but all there would be was vertical lines, like the text bled down the page.
-
Ok, then the next most likely explanation is that Kelly's indexing or otherwise taxing the shit out of the database. I'll ask her if anything like that's gong on. Otherwise, could be a denial of service attack or maybe even legitimate interest from real live people actually reading the site.

nope i do nothing during the daytime that would tax shit outta shit. but the index is growing now thats going to slow things down.

Frod said FireFox, Java off. I'm on FireFox too, but Java on. From what I remember, wwf.fornits was noted in the status bar, but I don't think the phrase was "contacting." More like something akin to "retrieving information."

Fwiw, it's doing it again right now...

Oh, YEAH!! I have to stop the page from continuing to load, its so friggin' annoying... goes on for minutes, doesn't seem to ever stop.
Stopping the page from finishing the load does not seem to prevent it from being viewed in its apparent entirety, nor from posting for that matter, if this post makes it through...
Right now, for what it's worth, the status bar reads "Waiting for www.assoc-amazon.com.. (http://www.assoc-amazon.com..)."

The Esc button will stop it, but yes, it's annoying...

   lol

Okay, I'm paying more attention to the status bar. I get the "Waiting for www.assoc-amazon.com.. (http://www.assoc-amazon.com..)." a lot. I also get "Read www.subgenius.com (http://www.subgenius.com)" for this thread, and right now, as I am typing, and the circle of life keeps going round and round (as Joni Mitchell put it so nicely), the status bar reads "Read wwf.fornits.com"... whoops! Now its on the "Waiting for www.assoc-amazon.com.. (http://www.assoc-amazon.com..)." line again...
-
That thing in my sig is from subgenius.com.
Anyway, it stopped doing it now (the pages are loading normally, like right away.)
-
Scratch that, now it's doing it again...lol
-
Doing it to me too. Firefox, Java off.
-
I see the problem. Look in the status bar at the bottom (if you have that turned on... I think the option is under view) Does it say something about waiting for Amazon.com something? That's not anything to worry about. I have an Amazon associates script that will try to load even if you don't have java turned on. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. It doesn't do anything really vital, just makes amazon links do that pop up thing.
-
That must be it. I see the 'waiting for Amazon' thingy.
-
I just saw "waiting for Google-analytics"???
-
I just saw "waiting for Google-analytics"???
yeah you'll see that on occasion rarely causes problems though even if "connecting", just an FYI. was it just momentary?
amazon seems to cause more issues then google..
and if we arent displaying amazon stuff, then why is it waiting on amazon..?? ginger?
-
So far I haven't seen it again, but I don't remember to look every time either.

:o :o :o
how could you not remember to look? i mean :o you'd think it would be a priority! lol *sarcasm* :P
-
That one caught my eye. Even if I hadn't been 'on the lookout' at what was there. But Google analytic? WTF is that?
Then again, I have been a tad bit on edge lately.

-
I see that on a lot of sites, it pops up in noscript

google analytics is what we use to get stats for the site it's harmless and everyone uses it cuz google is taking over the world. Plus it's free.

Sounds like you need some of TBPITW :smokin:

Well that was mainly intended for the Feed Your Head forum. I used to go in and add links to any book or video mentioned there. And then there were the plugs in the banner for HAAC, Generation Kill and occasionally others.
