Title: Glitches From the Move to Canada
Post by: Ursus on August 07, 2007, 10:54:46 AM
When sending a PM, I get the following error message:

Failed sending email :: PHP ::
DEBUG MODE
Line : 234
File : emailer.php

Mail actually ends up going through, but I have no way of knowing for sure until I check my "Out" or "Sent" folders.

This started happening sometime yesterday.

Thanks!

And all the options like "notify me when a reply is posted" have been changed to read "notify me when a reply is posted, eh?".

Fucking Molson drinking lumberjack yahoos.

Actually, not much is known about Canada, since it has never been visited by anyone except for illiterate ice fishermen and the Queen of England, but it is thought to resemble sort of an Arctic Nebraska.  It is extremely hard to distinguish a Canadian from a very boring regular white person, so be careful if you are on the Florida coast in January-----those black Speedo-wearing, lardy Canucks will try to pass off theri worthless currency to you at any opportunity.  You have been warned.

Just got the same error message when I posted to TTI although the message posted.

Had difficulty logging in when I chose "log in to check private messages" option.  Got this error message:

http://support.netfirms.com/idx.php/0/002[/url]

Did not encounter this problem when I subsequently tried to log in more simply.

Also:  am not receiving notification when I receive a PM; am not receiving notification when a topic I am watching gets a reply post.

Thanks.

Try first discarding all your cookies.  I think that there are actually only 2 but it might depend on your browser, and things might be different with this new ISP plus it being Canada...

Then try quitting your browser and starting over.  That should do it, at least for the more crippling issues...

Don't know if that was what did it, but now I'm not even asked for a confirmation code.

Thanks.

1. The pm gets sent. No need to check.
2. Mail notifcations do not get sent.
3. The problem is solved but won't be fixed until later today.

No Guest posts for the past two hours.  Maybe something wrong with the Captcha?

Okay, it doesn't appear as though there have been any Guest posts since yesterday evening.  Something is wrong.

Ok, Sendmail issue should be resolved now. More good news. The cause of the problem was that the forum was sending out over 2k notifications a day. That's a whole lot of people pming and watching topics! They've raised our quota, which should hold things for awhile but we may well need to outsource sendmail at some time in the not too distant future. So please keep an ear to the ground for a reliable, free or very inexpensive provider. When I say reliable, I mean technically stable, of course. More importantly, trustworthy with what may be sensitive information.

Thanks, ya'll, for all of your help and support!

I don't think any of us had a clue that there were so many notifications.  If if comes down to having to pare the number, I'd say the PM notifications are far more important to me than the topic notifications.  Perhaps there might also be the option of setting a limit on topic notifications per person, e.g. 5 in effect at a time or something like that, if that helps at all...

Forum order on the Index page bears no relation to posting history (i.e., most recently active on top).  Minor point, but thought you might like to know... 8-)

what did you mean? like if a post was posted to it wasnt updating to the most current time of the last post and current user? Or was this just on folks that were spamming?

spammers were kinda bypassing the system so its possible things weren't "updating" on their posts correctly. but if it was regular users too or if it's still happening, please do let me know. ty! :)

This has happened to me intermittently as well.  Usually, unvisited posts or forums are highlighted 'till you visit them, and then not highlighted until someone else posts a new reply.

What I've noticed is that sometimes all the posts or threads are highlighted even you've just been there and sometimes not.  I haven't watched this carefully enough to say with certainty exactly what the pattern is but whatever is going on is not consistent on my end.

Usually indications of a yellowish color appear AFTER I "visit" a post...   ;)
