Title: What is an "EMO"?
Post by: Anonymous on June 29, 2007, 03:32:36 PM
I reoutinely listen into my daughters telephone conversations to make sure she is not doing any drugs or other negative activities. She has been dating a boy for several weeks and her and her friends think he is "emo", does anybody know what this means? He dresses strange and I think EMO might be a code word for drug dealer.

Has anyone seen an EMO in real life or have first hand experience with one of them?

hahaha I'm sorry this is just too funny. emo's are everywhere, they're not bad people or drug dealers or anything, they're just doing their own thing like the goth kids and such. kinda weird people if you ask me, but hey, a person's style is their own, can't knock them for that. what's funny though is that emo kids actually tend to be straight-edged...

Shit then was I an emo kid for writing shite poetry and listening to Heavy metal?

I mean heavy metal, back in the '80's at least, was pretty grumpy, surly even at times, and often filled with angst.

Everyone always wants to hate the fads that come after theirs...even though theirs was probably just as lame to everyone else around them as they one they think is lame.

Hmmm... I dunno I always thought it would be pretty tough to beat the lameness of my youthful fad.

Haha, I wonder if my parents did that too...I'll bet they used to think I was on crack, because my buddies and I would always talk about going out and shredding some pipes after school, or sometimes we'd say we're gonna skip out of classes and head down to South Boston and hit those pipes. We were talking, of course, about the halfpipes and quarterpipes at Maverick Skatepark...

She catches you listening to those calls and she might be 30 when she finally decides to trust you again...

Right.. but I meant that I thought the original post was "crock of shit" in and of itself; in other words, I doubt it was for real.

her friends think he is "emo"

That is a term my daughter uses ... she says it is more a definition of someone's emotional state.  Sort of melancholy ... introspective ... almost depressed sort of personality.

She said it can refer to a certain 'style' also.  Sorta a cross between punk rock and goth.

Based on those descriptors ... I do believe my own daughter went through an emo phase.   :)

If your daughter is dating an EMO, you have nothing to worry about except your own jumping to conclusions mind.  On the other hand, its good you are interested and paying attention. My favorite student in my class is emo. He is clean living, into a certain type of music, introspective, reflective, and respectful.

My sister once threatened to do this to one of her kids. it was an idle threat like when ppl claim you can put some dye in a pool to determine whether anyone has done a wee. Is it truly possible to do this?

Why disgusting? I am simply aserting that one should no discriminate against a member of a subculture simply because of ignorance.  The fact that you read something inappropriate in this is more reflective of where your mind is... very program.

I don’t know about Emos but I do know this. When your offspring embraces the counterculture go with it. You may save a fortune. One of mine was given the credit card and a lecture about not spending the GDP of a third world country and sent to buy an outfit for her school formal. When she got back she had spent half of the rough budget she was given. The fact that she and the lad who escorted her looked like Morticia and Gomez was a small price for this tight arse to pay.

But I forgot! I got this ::both:: for that.

Oh well, who cares? Emos, emus, whatever.  ::peace::  ::bandit::
