has anyone had any experience with living in this type of situation? if yes, how was it and did it work out?

Well, there's a whole range of "type" to consider, from Synanon and its ilk, to artists' collectives formed primarily as a means of increasing purchasing power and political clout, among other concerns...

I personally have never done well fitting in with groups, and after program don't think I ever can, even if at one time I perhaps could have, theoretically speaking...  Perhaps in my old age this might be something to consider.  Until then, the lonely road is the only road for me...
