There is a program on about WellSpring
The presenter is saying "At WellSpring, they never force anyone to do anything, because they believe it will make the kids resent exercise"
Next thing this child is refusing to go on the trail saying she is on strike, so they draft in 'Jed' who says "Ok time for some tough love" he then shouts at her that she will get up at 6am and do the trail.....she's arguing it out at the moment, oh and another kid who is about 20 stone can't go on as he has a sore foot (claims to have) but he's changed his mind all of a sudden - why? How did his sore foot go away like that
Oh hang on, both kids have been left behind LMAO!! Bastards, they are up a freakin' mountain!!
The kids won't see the group for 3 days and have to clean up the camp - they aren't happy kids.
Jed says he can't be too strict as the girl might rebel, and the boy is sensitive .....O.......K......
Right and now the pep talk, how the whole group are divided between being whimps or warriors (wtf?) and the kids that went on the trail, should be proud of themselves
Just thought I'd disuss this with you as we don't have camps here & it's a bit weird to say the least

What program are you watching?
-
I'm in the UK Hanzomom, it was on BBC1 I think - called I know what you did last summer
I felt a bit freaked out by it, because they only showed the bits where the kids all start becoming a team, but I was watching it through different eyes, knowing what i know, it made my skin crawl to say the least.

Jonny discovered how self-defeating this masking of emotional and behavioral problems can be. He broke the rules at AOS (Academy of the Sierras) and risked expulsion. The clinical staff at AOS decided that if Jonny successfully completed a month at Aspen Education Group's wilderness therapy program Lone Star Expeditions in Texas he could continue at the Academy. He returned a month later with a new outlook on life.

It is called "I know what you ate last summer"

It is from the same production-company that has marketed Aspen in Europe via "Brat Camp"

Regarding "Brat Camp" they are now working for Anasazi, but it does not seem to be a succes.

As I have written before, Brat Camp 4 with the parents in desert were not a succes because the parents could not take the harsh conditions in the desert for 6 weeks, so a family left.
Anasazi tried to develop a system that could break the child in 3 weeks, but as you can read in the link above, 3 weeks is too short a time.
I think you will need something as tough as High Impact to achieve this in three week and it would not be for television (Even television viewers must have a limit somewhere), so the Family Brat Camp concept as good as it must be for the child (They can't beat the child when the child is standing next to the parent) does properly not work.
It is a shame that parents would not stand up for their own children. If they feel so badly regarding the weight issue, why dont take the entire 4-8 week with the child? Perhaps they even can learn something about healthy food and what not to bring into the kitchen so they dont have to pay over next year. In many families it is not the children, who buys food for dinner. It is the parents.

Oh really... just continue to push, and edge, and inch by inch... whittle away at the sensitivity of the audience. not much shocks anymore... At least here. Well i take that back. Showing a breast on TV shocks... and provokes quarter million dolllar fines from the department of morality, tens of thousands of letters, outrage that lasts months, google keywords hitting number 1...
Shit.. as a country, we really have our priorities sorted out... Personally, I hate the fucking TV. I never watch the thing... It's where most people get their reality, their truth. It's a simulacrum. TV is 100% broadcast, 0% receive... People used to look to the news for facts, now they look for "expert opinion" because they are either too lazy, too busy, too apathetic, or just simply forgot they had brains...
God I hate that thing... Stop watching it for a few weeks and see if anything changes. You see the world differently, you start to think for yourself.. you exercise that mushy thing in your skull... You question, you seek, you find, you speak...
Robert Lifton, singer, Ofshe, and others noted that social environment was paramount to influencing behavior... Most Americans have TV intertwined into their social life in such a way that it serves as a surrogate for what would otherwise likely be time spent in introspection, creative activities, or with others... You don't think what you watch on the TV influences you just a little? I know enough, having been in program, that you often don't realize when you are being influenced... Shit.. if it didn't work, companies wouldn't pay for commercials.
Aah... I'm so glad this is a forum where i can say what the hell I feel... god bless ya Ginger!
