This place definitely warns people about the dangers of sending their kids away, but it's also pretty full of stuff that would turn off a parent to the message--talk about drugs, unfiltered profanity, et cetera. If you've been to a program, you know it's just people detoxing, but if you're a desperate parent, you could just think, "It's a bunch of rebellious kids trying to keep us from straightening them out."
Anyway, I'm wondering if there are some more parent-friendly sites which stress the welfare of kids in programs, to which I could send parents who are considering such things. I've come upon such parents three times (though one was my own mother, wanting to send my sister away), and managed to prevent them from sending their children to "boot camp" residential places. But every time, I had a hard time making them believe that such things actually happened... I had to resort to other tactics. With my mom, I pointed out that my sister would be required to have her vaccinations (my mom doesn't believe in vaccines)... With another parent, I pointed out that something the school taught was something the parent didn't believe... with a third, I just stressed that the parent would lose control of the child, and showed them that the school would be making a lot of decisions without consulting them.
It's not like I could prevent anybody from sending a kid away if they were hell-bent to do it; but I think some trustworthy sites documenting abuse would be useful.

I would recommend the person look for the referral free Zone star. Perhaps give the person a heads up that in a totally unmoderated forum there will be a diverse range of interesting and not always all together pleasant people. this does not neccesarily mean that lies are being told.
I would also strongly advise they read help at any cost. Perhaps they should watch the english versions of brat camp too. I was astonished at what they werewilling to admit they put the kids through. it made me wonder about what happened when the cameras were not rolling.
When i first came across this industry it did cross my mind that many of the claims could have been the conspiracy theories of mad people. But when i saw what it was that many programs were willing to admit to I realised that it certainly was not an industry which seemed to like the kids in its care much.
i remember being so surprised by the very concept that a kid who was not in jail could go to a boarding school with no exeat weekends or summer holidays that I initially assumed i had misread some of the program websites claims of being year round. Given this fact alone it is easier to see why some of the people who have been through this industry can be a little hostile.
Best of luck :)

Oh yeah, and there's always the old AnonAnon page. http://fornits.com/anonanon/ (http://fornits.com/anonanon/)
Hasn't been updated in age upon age, but who knows how some of those sites have evolved?

Anybody interested in Synanon history might get a couple of good leads there.

I've been trawling through that Anon page for some time now. Hppened across it via an old post. So much of value there, but hopelessly in need of updating. SOooo many of the links are N.G. and need to be re-found. If there is anything that I could do to help, please let me know.
