Holy crap, yes. Damn skippy, slappy cakes.
Preferably someone being cornholed through their ear and having it shoot out the other side.
-
I was channel surfing and saw the promotion for the show. I couldn't be LESS surprised. I hate Oprah.

I think one of the more chilling posts in that forum was about how this autistic boy's mother put him through it. Said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. Good lord, how frightening.

My dad still thinks all the programs and other shit "saved my life"...not just his opinion, he considers it a stone cold fact.. :-?

Say to him, "Maybe. But it didn't save yours."
And then kill him.

Ah, I see your posts now. That is the most assed-backwards BB I've seen in a long time. Who the fuck engineered that? An eighth grader?

So, who now has Administrative Duties on fornits?

That's some scary shit. All those posts about how this shit should be mandatory at all schools. Get the fuck outta my kid's head!!! THIS is the reason TBS and RTCs exist. The mindset of the Oprah/Phil/Maury audience is surely a sign of the end times.

No, but I will tell you that Miller Newton is the only man that Oprah ever allowed to cornhole her! (Dr. Phil has never had this privilege.) Miller bent her over and stuck his pecker in her little brown ring and she loved it; a match made in hell.

I am a high school teacher. I've been teaching for over 20 years. The high school challenge "experiment" inspired me to an exciting level! For years I have envisioned a concept that I termed "Cross the Line". I dreamed that "somehow" I could get students to unite and make a stand, but really had no specific way I could figure to do this...then came your show! That's it! This whole concept really has the potential to change a generation. I would treasure the opportunity to be a part of this! Need a west coast coordinator? An exciting prospective!

Challenge Day: Bringing Transformational Workshops to a School Near You.
Posted in Miscellaneous at 3:20 pm by Rick Ross
By Frank Schwerin, MD
Challenge Day is a California-based corporation that according to its handbook, ?provides youth and their communities with experiential workshops and programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth and full expression?
The Challenge Day Corporation does not provide schools with anti-bullying or anti-suicide programs. According to the company?s own literature: ?Challenge Day is not designed as a program to ?fix? students who are struggling.?
Whether such a program should be a part of the high school curriculum has been controversial. A Seattle Times editorial opined, ?It is alarming that nearly 300 Seattle Public Schools students have already participated in Challenge Day workshops. These 12- and 13-year-olds went through sessions reminiscent of est, or Lifespring encounter groups???While the goal of the seminars has merit ? to create a safe school environment free of teasing and harassment ? their methods don?t belong under the imprimatur of public education.?
One year ago, when I learned of Challenge Day while reading an article about it in my local newspaper the Naples News, I was not aware of the controversy surrounding the company. Challenge Day promised to make students feel ?safe, loved and celebrated.? ?No more teasing, no more belittling, no more gangs.? A follow-up headline one week later proclaimed: ?Program stimulates students to be more accepting.?
All this was from a 6-hour workshop limited to 100 students per school - and it was free! Challenge Day previously had been ?given? to two of our high schools by a group of volunteers who had raised money to sponsor the workshops.
It seemed too good to be true. The first Naples, Florida Challenge Days were obviously important to the Challenge Day Corporation. The local press had been enlisted to photograph and interview the participants The founders of Challenge Day, Rich Dutra-St.John and his wife Yvonne St. John-Dutra (you read it right) flew out to Florida from California to personally lead the ?showcase? workshops held here last year.
The Dutras also personally lead the Challenge Day at a Michigan high school that was recently featured on Oprah.
Why Naples?
It may have had something to do with money. At the time, the median house price in Naples was nearly five hundred thousand dollars, the highest in Florida. And a charity fundraiser to benefit local education programs had raised a record twelve million dollars earlier in the year. If they could raise sufficient funds, anything was possible.
Challenge Day organizers didn?t need the financial support of the school district.
The promoters of Challenge Day pitched the program directly to the high school principals. One organizer stated that her goal was for Challenge Day to be in every Collier County high school and middle school by 2007.
Things didn?t work out as planned in Collier County. Two months later the county school board ordered a temporary moratorium on Challenge Day in order to look into safety issues. Three months after that, following an extensive review by the Collier County school administration, a permanent hold was placed on the workshops. And the school board ultimately said ?no? to the program.
What went wrong?
As more information about the company surfaced, it became clear that the Challenge Day press kit didn?t tell whole story............(cont'd)

FUCK! You know what I just remembered about? Who here saw Donnie Darko?
They had a subplot regarding an LGAT trainer who comes to the school to "inspire" the kids. (Played by Patrick Swayze.) They even had lingo similar to the I Want to Live propheet from CEDU. Fear = death and love = life. (I think that's how it went. It's been a long time since that propheet.)
Anyway, Donnie thought it was full of shit. The movie did a real good job of parodying that whole mentality.
For those interested in seeing the movie, I won't divulge what happens to Swayze's character.

I loved Donnie Darko. I knew the patrick Swayze Character was parodying the self help movement but not these schools. Hilarious. it would make sense- this film was produced by Drew Barrymore. i wonder how many of her old school chums are CEDU alum
-
I found Donnie Darko practically unwatchable.
I don't know quite why. On the first five minutes I found myself personally offended, and I'm very difficult to offend. I watched only on the insistence of a friend. I just gagged on that movie. It was like eating squash covered in dog shit.

One of the first things you will learn at SIBS is that YOU CAN'T WIN! ::bwahaha::

I'm curious about what really happens after these seminars? You bring in kids of different classes, races, sexual preferences. You create a "safe" environment. They divulge very personal things. Then it's back to life in the real world where they are very likely to be ridiculed and humiliated by their peers for things they revealed in the seminar. How many wish they hadn't participated, revealed their secrets? Do they really believe that a day or two in seminar, with a small fraction of the school population is going to "heal" years of social conditioning toward division? Nada.
-
Maybe this has to do with high schools offering "psychology" courses now. Every kid is trying to diagnos and analyze the other kid. Everyone thinks everyone else is broken and needs a good fixin'.
-
Someone also posted an encouraging reply:
Yes I agree that we need to teach our kids to think. As a middle school teacher I strongly agree that our kids need to learn to think but they also need to learn to feel. A lot of them do not know how to link thoughts with feelings. It takes a lot for our kids to realize that their actions have an impact on someone elses feelings. I wanted to bring Challenge Day to my school, but now you made me think twice. I will definately look up the guy who came up with it. However, I still feel it is a good idea.[/i]
-
I've been asking people I know still in HS on the internet about Challenge Day.
LOTS of places it seems have it!
I am glad that one friend, though, saw through it. "Oh, you mean where kids admit their shit and cry?" Yeah "Ha ha we trolled them once".
 Oh, Joe, you make me so proud

When I first went to that mess of a bulletin board, I started reading oldest first. There were a couple, maybe three kids, who had been through challenge day and had stated that everything was back to status quo the next day, in addition, the kids who cried during CD were teased the day after. So your assessment is correct. The kids who posted didn't outright condemn it as much as said "Maybe it worked for other schools, but it sure didn't work for mine." But it was definitely a critical review, by kids who participated in it, no less.
TSW: your posts are still there, except I couldn't find the one with the SIBS link. Let me know if you track it down, and post the Oprah BB URL.
Also...
Liz has something on her site. (http://http://lizditz.typepad.com/i_speak_of_dreams/2005/03/challenge_day_a.html)
TSW: now that I think about it, they probably pulled the SIBS post. Early on in that thread, one of the mods mentioned that you couldn't post links in your stuff. (Unless you were one of the mods)

Plane part falls through roof of Chicago home, lands close to woman's bed
Published: Friday, January 12, 2007 | 2:43 PM ET
Canadian Press
CHICAGO (AP) - A small piece of metal apparently from an aircraft crashed Friday through the roof of a home near Midway Airport, authorities said.
No injuries were reported, and the 40-centimetre-long part was taken to the airport for federal authorities to examine, said Wendy Abrams, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Department of Aviation.
She said the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration would investigate the incident to determine what happened.
The homeowner, Dorothy Gohn, said she was sleeping about 1 a.m. Friday when a heavy thud woke her up. She saw a hole in her ceiling and found a piece of metal with teeth like a gear about 2 feet from the foot of her bed.
"I went to pick it up and it was really hot. You couldn't touch it. So I left it and when I finally picked it up, it had burned through my carpet, all the way to the floor," Gohn said.
Gohn called 911. She's since had a roofing company patch up the hole.c
