ISAC has a survivor hotline for any survivor or spouse that is feeling suicidal, depressed etc. This is manned by professionals. During the day this is manned by American Family Foundation who are nationally known cult experts, ISAC has spoken at length with their counselors and doctors so they are very familiar with what survivors go through

During Business hours call ISAC Hotline

After hours you can call 727-596-7118
This is manned by a survivor and psychiatric technician.

After hours, niether of which are credentialed to assist someone with suicidal ideation.  Quit trying to save the world!  This sounds like "Dime Therapy" in synops.  "Feedback" as it was...

While I appreciate all your efforts, it seems as if your are lending validity to a cultic society concept among the survivors community.  Survivors need skills relative to independence and responsibility,  Fostering dependence on other survivors is just as "cultic" as the program itself.  I hate to use the word "Codependence" as it was a shitty word even during it's peak in the '80s but it is definitely representative of what you reflect.  Do we need some special line that we call on a red "bat-phone" when going through troubles or can we see our local shrink/pastor/neighbor/etc.  Granted none understand our experience as well as cult experts and survivors, but I think it is more of a transition to real life.

"Once a druggie always a druggie" is a concept that I don't subscribe to nor do I subscribe to the philosphy that I am incapable, disabled, handicapped, or in need of some "special" assistance because of all my teen years in a pseudotherapeutic thought reform cult!  
I am able and I will survive through each struggle sans "special assistance".  

It seems like you are working hard on ISAC and again I appreciate the efforts.  I hope it will not be thanklessly in vain.  I had to share my thoughts on the issue and don't mean to be offensive in any way.

There's no question that a cult would use group dynamics to repress and control --- However, no man is an island, and social support is essential to good mental health.  And people can still be suicidal if they are prone to, for example, depression.  A lot has to do with the chemistry of the brain which is one reason why mood-altering drugs might be resorted to -- (used as opposed to abused.)  I don't think this help process is cultish at all, but I think discussion about it may assist the "helpers" in more clearly defeining their role and purpose.

I see it both ways. That always makes it more interesting. I would just like to add one point. We didn't have freedom of choice in Straight. I think it is fine to find help (or talk) under your own WILL. Or where you there under your own will?

all a psych tech is, is someone who is certified by the state to sit in a ward and watch the muffins that does not give you the knowledge to treat, counsel or advise a person about their psyco or social needs and besides I think you should first get help for yourself and then get a lisence to treat the symptoms...
Now if you are in pinellas county and have health insurance there is a place called WINDMOORE that is aware of STRAIGHT AND STRAIGHT LIKE programs and can realy help you, they care they don't restrain, you sign in and out, no head games but deprograming from this crap is hard and requires a commitment to focus on the here and now.. If you use abuse drugs & or alcohol you are expected to quit. You are expected to take your life in your own hands, let go of the anger and pain and begin to LIVE not SURVIVE I know because I was there and it (for me) realy helped. No more nightmares no more anxiety attacks no more rage.. I am not perfect and I still at time revert bact to the victim stage but I get better and better every day. I work full time I have friends and I am in touch w/ most family members the others who still believe in the straight doctrin I just let be I can not change them and I do not need their approval. You see I read a few times on this post by (I am sure) aggitators to "Just get over it" and I was infuriated by their jest, but I found out I can let it go and I can be happy and I can enjoy life outside of the STRAIGHT SURVIVOR/ VICTIM MODE.
I wish everyone luck and peace but you can not change the world w/out first changing yourself. And chasing the deamons only keeps you close to them.

Watch the muffins? My husband was one of those PEOPLE on a mental ward.  I dont know if a psych tech can solve problems, but muffins is very offensive.

Hey i was there too and I am not offended to be called a muffin.. Now nut case, psycho, waco, F/uped that hurts. But be serious, being called a Muffin hurts your feelings...
Perhaps you should take it as an endering word as I call my kids muffin and cupcake
