Title: NATSAP
Post by: Anonymous on September 06, 2006, 07:41:01 PM
Who are natsap? Are they a "service provider" like Aspen or an accreditation body? If they are the latter do schools have to meet any proper standards or do they just pay to be listed?

NATSAP is a networking body for programs.  They try to appear as if they're some kind of regulatory or QA group for programs, but all they really are is a networking/lobbying group for the industry.

NATSAP is a scam funded and founded by Len Buccellato, owner of Hidden Lake Academy, designed to assuage fears of prospective marks by lending the appearance that someone is actually monitoring these programs.  Rest be assured, NOBODY IS.  All of the "NATSAP Programs" are completely unregulated, unlicensed and have no oversight from anyone whatsoever.

Maybe you'd do better with less anger and more truth.
NATSAP does network, but it also seeks some sort of ethics in program operation -- not strong perhaps, but it is better than nothing, which is what predated NATSAP.  They have some way to go, to be sure, and some positive steps may be motivated by a desire to avoid 50 sets of rules, but clearly they are better than nothing.

Also, the assertion that "all" of the members programs are completely unregulated etc is demonstrably false on several points.

NATSAP cannot pretend to be truly interested in ethics or a code of behavior for their members until they make and enforce sanctions against their members.

NATSAP is a truly classic case of the fox watching the henhouse.  More than one member program of NATSAP has had "critical incidents" that resulted in injury or death and, to my knowledge, other than spin control, NATSAP did not address these incidents in any way.

If NATSAP really wanted to function as a governing body, they would have parent and student representatives on their Board and they would truly police their members, not merely shield them and award them.

NATSAP is a paid-membership club.  Pay your dues, agree to follow their "ethics" and do a self-survey to assure yourself you're legit.  If there were anything behind it, NATSAP wouldn't be the worthless "seal of approval" the facilities present it as.  Check a facility's IEP's, how well they work with previous schools to get information, and check out sites like this http://tennessee.schooltree.org/private ... 21022.html (http://tennessee.schooltree.org/private/Peninsula-Village-021022.html)
Sorry for the gratuitous slap at PV, but you can get to the homepage from here.

why is it that every time someone exposes the rampant fraud of programs or NATSAP that the stock response is "you're angry!"  that is such a lame cop out...

you certainly don't know much about NATSAP!

programs policing themselves?  PLEASE, fool!  this is how kids end up dead, raped, beaten and starved.  we let you regulate yourselves for years and what we got was quite a few bodybags, tons of PTSD and thousands of damaged lives.  we tried your way.  now we're going to try OUR WAY.

lawyer up or shut up.  your "flagship" program is going down first, then we'll get moving on the rest of you racketeering quacks.

and as some of us have found out the hard way, all three of the above do not equal quality.
