As I recall a story in the Fox Fire books:

A revenuer was having a hard time locating Rob Roy's still, which he knew was up on the mountain somewhere. He had trekked all up and down the paths and hollers with no luck. Spying a young boy walking along the road, he stopped him and offered him a silver dollar, to tell him which mountain path lead to the notorious still. The boy happily showed him which path to take, and then asked for his silver dollar. "I'll give you the dollar when I return down the mountain", says the revenuer; thinking if the boy had lied, he wouldn't pay him. The boy replied, "I'd rather have it now mister, you aint gonna be coming down."

My dad told me it was about like that. Being a revenuer was the most dangerous job out there. That's one of the things I like about the culture of Pennsytucky; they're right proud of things like that.
