Speaking of ORS.
According to Marty (Martin) Rotter, ORS didn't feel that HLA required licensing at the time they looked at it because all therapeutic services were considered "OPT" (Out Placed Therapeutic) services that are performed at Ridge Creek. In other words that there was no "therapy" occuring at HLA, only RC. Odd, they didn't bother to look at the website or read their literature.
Marty needs to hear from others regarding the services provided to kids at HLA. You can reach him at 404.657.5700. Take a moment to make that call.

that's complete nonsense. what about the years that hla was operating, but ridge creek didn't exist?
in order to expose the cronyism and political string-pulling, everyone needs to hammer this ass-clown until he acts appropriately.

HLA claims they should not have to be licensed with DHR/ORS because their main mission is Academics services, not Therapeutic services. We all know this is absolutely not true.
Please send any copies of therapeutic assessments, the monthly statement you received for the therapeutic sessions, etc... to the following person:

The more tangible evidence they have to show that HLA considers itself to be a Therapeutic boarding school will help solidify the case that they should be licensed.

Subject Hidden Lake Academy
Dear Ms. Murphy,
I am writng you this letter in regard to Hidden Lake Academy,
a "Therapeutic Boarding School" in Dahlonega, GA. It has come to my attention that your organization is not overseeing HLA properly or requiring them to be licensed to provide therapy and drug addiction services. This appears to be an ongoing issue.
I am a former employee of HLA and was employed there beginning at its inception. I am well aware of its history, policies and procedures and would like to enlighten you on some details. HLA is primarily a treatment center, not a school.
Academics since the beginning have been a "back-burner" issue at HLA. Group therapy, individual therapy, behavior modification and therapeutic "interventions" are the priorities at HLA and all of these "services" are delivered by untrained and uneducated staff, most of whom do not have degrees in the mental health field (several have no secondary education whatsoever) and none of whom are licensed or credentialed to provide these services.
HLA is a dangerous environment in which, by their own admission,
pedophiles, sexual abusers and violent batterers attend. Surely you don't believe that this is a normal population for an "academics only" boarding school. That assessment defies the facts and reality.
HLA is an unlicensed, unregulated treatment center masquerading as a "school" to the detriment of its attendees who are subjected to
psychological quackery, experimental techniques and harsh, punitive behavior modification.
Ms. Murphy, it is incumbent upon you and your agency to examine the facts surrounding HLA. Not to do so is a dereliction of your duties and a disservice to the children being subjected to HLA's "program."
Best Regards,

Copied from the Sonny Perdue thread:
Just spoke with a rep. at ORS..Apparently they tried to get them (HLA) in 2005)......ORS maintains that HLA provided proof to ORS attorneys, etc. that they are an 'Academic' school...This is getting to be ridiculous....ORS should tell the parents that are flipping the
bills for a "Therapeutic" Boarding School", along with other States that they are not licensed to accept monies from either....
Then perhaps it's the ORS attorney who needs to receive those insurance and treatment documents.
Would that be the Attorney General? I know they represent/defend ORS in legal matters, therefore can't take action against the agency.

Listen as a student during the "rough" times at HLA You guys know nothing of what went on when I was there. I can tell you stories that would make the coldest hearts cry. If you want information from some one who completed the program drop you contact info to me at mercutio123a@lycos.com. I will be more than happy to tell you all about my time there

Hi Ken,
Welcome.
Kit with DFS has re-opened their investigation of HLA in order to determine if they need to be licensed as an RTC and monitored by Office of Regulatory Services.
While others here would be interested in anything you'd care to share, it is Kit right now who needs to hear from you. You can call her today.
ORS was told that no 'therapy' ocurred at HLA, only RC, and that 'therapeutic' was only a marketing tool.
If you care to refute this, then she'd like to hear from you, and others.
