Title: Any good non -profit programs out there?
Post by: Anonymous on July 20, 2006, 06:46:06 PM
Hello. I am in need of a non- profit program. My son is failing 10th Grade, smoking pot, getting in trouble with the law, lost job at Walmart for stealing money. I would appreciate any info that anyone could provide. I used to be well off financially but I lost so much money to my Online Poker addiction. I have insuffiecent funds to pay for a for -profit program.

Hmm, first I would consider talking to your son.  Just tell him straight up that if he continues his pattern of behavior that he's going to end up in jail (depending on his legal trouble) and there's nothing you'll be able to do to help him out.  Offer him counseling therapy (although I imagine he might reject it outright).  Speak to his school, find out what services they offer.  If he's already in legal trouble, he may be on probation.  If he is on probation, you may be able to require him to seek treatment as a condition of his probation.

You could always designate him as a Person or Child in Need of Supervision (PINS or CHINS).  But that would require relinquishing custody.  And is probably a drastic step at this point.  Unless he's exhibiting violent behavior, there are many things you can do at this point short of sending him away.  Mostly, I would talk to the special education department in your local school to discuss options.

"I used to be well off financially but I lost so much money to my Online Poker addiction. "

Looks like someone's troll detector needs an upgrade.

Please, if it is a troll there's nothing that would drive them more nuts than a reasoned well thought answer to their trife.  And on the off chance that it isn't a troll, well we should give the man some proper advice.

TROLL-DAR DETECTS INCOMING BULLSHIT.

But at any rate, until you find a program that isnt coersive, isnt 'residential' without need and only as an ACTUAL last resort (i.e., if theyre actually a danger to themselves or others, not smoking pot and stealing money from your broke ass) and doesnt prevent them from leaving unless theyre actually a danger to themselves or others, and are properly able to handle patients like that, and do not prevent communication with friends/family/advocates/legal representation, and dont 'warn' them of 'lying and manipulating to go home', Im going to tell you to stop whining and get a parent.

No, I didnt say that to the obvious troll, I said that to any parent coming through here. If you throw your kid in a cult youre gonna get whats coming to you down the line and you know it. If the kid has a REAL problem, get REAL help, not an abusive cult-like pyramid scheme that'll suck you in just as bad.

JEeze, youd think people would have common sense in 2006.

Well first things first.

As soon as you read this message disconnect your computer.

NOT only are you to blow your computer up, you are to refrain from using anyone elses pc for your online porno addiction. After taking a shower to wash off all the oil and vaseline you will spend several hours a day with your child.

Seriously yo! its a great non-profit program... won't cost you a nickel, and you end up saving money.

Thanks for encouraging washing off all the porn and vaseline before spending time with their child, or they might get some bad ideas...    :o

Yeah.  Great non-profit program:

Get off your ass in front of the computer and walk for an hour a day.
