I saw groups of people, of three or four beating people that wanted to leave the seed, like to go back to jail...there was a room just past the big meeting room, on the way to the bathroom, on the right...this was in Fort Lad. I felt helpless, I knew one of the persons...

Beating people? With what? Do you mean holding some one down, so the police would take them back to jail?

yes.. outher seedings would beat the shit out of people..it would be 4 or 5 people at one time,beating one person....one guy doing the beatings name was Glen, he had red hair and he worked out with his oldcummers at there app.

It was in the early 70..71 or 72....there was two beds in that room, and they had him on top of it and kicking the shit out of him...he later went back to jail.....I rember his face but not his name....

alot of people got their asses kicked, that is how them bastards enforced the rules. Once you saw one kid get their ass kicked it was implied that the same could happen to you.

How strange. During the time that I was there I did not see or hear of anyone being beaten.

well thats whats so great about this home page, you can say and thank anythang you want, but I was there..I was 14, I dont rember everones name, but the staff member I liked the best was the black guy, He looked like the guy from the Mod Squad, sometimes he would have on jeans with big bleach spots on then..and a big afro..if you were there you know that I am talking about...ASSHOLE!

I never saw anyone beaten either. I did see a couple of kids get jumped to stop them from leaving. Then there parents were called and some of the time went home with the parents and some ended up staying. Are you sure at 14 you might have confused someone getting held down and struggling for being beaten. I know as time went If someone wanted to leave staff would say just let them go.

Ihave been over this topic repeatedly. I can only speak for my time in the St Pete seed and how I felt.
Kids were not directly "beaten" by the staff there, but overt threats were made all the time. Placing misbehaviors with big scary guys and standing them up and daring them to "try something", threatening kids with the parent beating schmeal, and then telling the group it could happen to them as well, watching kids thrown down on hard and then piled onto,and my own capture and return of a kid running from the back of the seed where me and a senior staffer threw the kid down hard in the parking lot and he came up bleeding and crying.
This stuff was terryfiing when you were the object of it. I have often wondered just who that kid was, how he is today, and what his take on that event is. I spent years blocking this stuff out and I cannot remember his name.

I cant rember his name or the guy with the blond hair or the Italian looking older guy that one of his eyes looked the outher way, he lead a lot of groups and smoked a lot.....

I will refrain from using words that truley reflex my feelings when people tell me that I was not there....... I thank that if I thought back about the time I spent in the seed, Iam amazed that Iam still sane.

OK maybe you were there. Its odd for me to think that you would not remember Lybbi thats all. The guy with the crooked eye was Pete C. He died in the early 90's. The blond guy ? There were a few and they are all probably bald now.

I just learned a new psyche term; gaslighting.
The powers of perception and self delusion are mighty and awsome. Even under normal circumstances, two people viewing the same events can and often do come away with completely different perceptions about it. Some people remember the Seed as nothing but goodness and light. They were right there when the chick tried to kill herself by swollowing a large tube of fluoride toothpaste. They were there, in body, when someone tried to split and got 'lovingly' tackled and restrained. They just viewed it as the loving group helping the poor, insane recalcitrant newcomer.
I understand how this works, it happened to me. After a year and some months, almost two years in Straight, I felt the effect of intensive gaslighting like a mack truck to the face. I had just got done delivering my requisite script lines to a kid who had run away, been brought back and been 'confronted' intensively for many hours through the night and halfway into the next day. When they brought him out in front of group, he couldn't really stand or walk on his own or even respond to or look at whoever was talking to him. I "saw" a defiant kid who wouldn't cooperate. Naturally. That's how we all were told to interpret the situation. In that context, that closed groupthink thing, it went without saying.
I bought it, hook line and sinker. My only sop to the kid was that, for whatever reasons, he had chosen to act this way and take the beating. I never understood why ppl did that. I always just complied outwardly and kept my own council privately, or so I thought.
Well just after I finished delivering my lines and sat down, Chris Casselor called on the kid's sister to give him a dose of GroupLove. For the first time in this episode, this kid responded. His face became animated, hopeful. He heard his sister's voice and he started searching with his eyes for the source. Couldn't find her! He couldn't locate his sister's face, not 15 feet away! Cathy just sat down with her face in her hands and cried. I experience intense vertigo and tunnel vision. I looked around at the faces around me, not even bothering to be wary of the ever vigilant 5th phasers on the lookout for cliquing, eye games and such. What I saw was a combo of blank, vacant stares, people waiting for Staff to tell them what to think and people who were terrified and, maybe, thinking this might be just the time to make a break for it. I thought about it hard for a brief moment. Realized that I really had no choice at all. If I made a move, I would just have been beat down and maybe a few other people would be too. So I stuffed it, pulled a face and waited for an oportunity to get my fail self away from that satanic influence so that I could think again.

i wasn't in ft lauderdale, i was in dade vcounty, nd i saw beatings, and as eudora so elenglty decribed a "beating" can as well be produced by psychological means as any other, after, a broken bone doesn't hurt as bad as a broken will.. yes i've taken my share of physical injury too.. to all, 'guest' seems to have a foul keyboard, no? pls whomever you are, if you are going to use profane spech, at least makwe it good :flame: d!
