My daughter went to wilderness and now is at an RTC (island view). We are starting to think about the next step. I'm still scared to have her come home. Any suggestions/feedback about step down schools such as Oakley, King George or others? I had originally wanted her to go to Monarch or Montana Academy, but her drug use/problems resulted in the recommendation of an RTC. Now I think she needs something less intense/restrictive as some of the TBS. Thank you!

I want to believe these slackjaws aren't real, that the entire site is set up either by some very fucking sick programmie troll or by some round-the-bend lunatic who gets a kick out of playing around with this shit.

Wrong.

You're scared of her? That's a good place to start, but there are a lot more things to be afraid of.

What they are scared of is parenting.

No-what they are scared of is the girl relapsing into serious drug use if she returns home before she is ready and has had enough treatment.

Wow, that's stupid. Every kid I've talked to coming out of a long term TBS environment tells me they are MORE likely to do drugs when they get out. To make up for time missed, to try all the things they heard about, and to deal with the pain of having everyone in your life two years ahead of where you are at.
I've talked to several dozen kids now in my research, and one thing is clear, these programs increase drug use when they teen eventually gets out.
Parents are just trying to delay the inevitable. They are just making it worse. Ironic, and sad.

You're exactly right.  75% of all kids that "graduate" TBS's recidivate.  The ones that graduate typically represent only 40-50% of the total population.

They are warehoused with some severely disturbed kids who become their role models, contacts and connections.  They learn to "cheek" their meds and trade for other kids' meds or drugs from residents and staff alike.  They carry these habits of lying, cheating, stealing, etc. that they honed at the TBS into practice when they get home.  The kids that only drank or smoked pot try acid, meth, cocaine and ecstacy.  These are the problems associated with aggregating distressed teens and has been well-documented since the mid-fifties by several research studies.

It is also well known that any "positive" behaviors learned in the TC environment don't generalize to other environments - they're "environment-specific" behaviors.

TBS's that use isolation, BM, LGAT and coersion simply don't work.

This parent is talking about Oakley.  It isn't exactly a warehouse.

More mis-information from DJ.

You're an idiot who can't read.

Oh My God!  Would that be an Ad Hominam attack? By DJ? The one who accuses everyone else of doing such a shameful thing?

Yes, it is.  And it's true, too.  Funny how that works.  Your obsession with him is really sick.  Want to address the point posted?  Instead of reading what was written by the parent, you just attcked DJ like you do in every thread, every day while cautiously avoiding the topic of discussion. Is PA that boring?  Isn't there something to do there?  Maybe you can write your kid who you had jailed.  You really do lead a pathetic obsessive existence, don't you?

Was DJ talking about some other poster or about his relationship to this forum?

"

I guess you won't be pointing out any "lies," huh?  You seem to be fully obsessed with DJ.  You can't say, do or think anything but "DJ" can you?  No.  No, you can't.

You're more likely than not re-reading his posts right now while you rub one out because your husband won't even talk to you anymore since you screamed "Oh! DJ! YES!!" last time he entered you."

Oh yeah.  This is priceless!

One slice of humble pie, served cold.  This troll is truly a disgusting example of a program parent and reflects poorly on the rest of you.  How strange that none of you repudiate her.  I hope she enjoys the taste of her own medicine.  Maybe she'll get the help that she needs when she realizes that anyone (especially us parents) reading her posts says to themselves "It's no wonder her kid was so screwed up"...

Isn't this an interesting new tactic- impersonating parents?  Since there are a total of about 5 people who even post of this forum, I wonder which one of you it is that is trying to look so mature and make this alleged Programmie look bad?  We all know how easy it is to multiple personalities on this board.
BUT- you have dug such a deep hole of immaturity and disgust that no adult is going to buy anything you have to say.

You are such an idiot. At any given time there are around 40-50 people posting here.

All of the people posting here are ME and my few little friends.  I can check IP addresses, so I KNOW who is on this forum. If I say there are 50 people here, you should BELIEVE me. I know it all.
I can't wait for Luke and Paul to come home from school.  I will fix them milk and cookies and help them log on so they can insult everyone and use the language I taught them in my capacity as a MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL.

I personally could give a shit whether or not you believe what I say.  I posted that I've been in contact with parents who read here but do not post.  Believe it or don't.  Makes no difference to me.  The difference that counts is the one made to the kids' lives that were spared the mindrape.

Fornits can be brutal at times, no arguement here.  But I have found that quite a few people take their time, don't respond to obvious trolls and weed through the "bullshit".  They follow the links thrown up by various posters, anon or named.  The Google certain names of programs and directors and boards of directors.  They're out there and they're starting to research and truly take an interest.  This kind of shit has been allowed to go on for so long for a variety of reasons, one of which is that it was so hard to make the connections or get information out.  It's not anymore.  Now when the Michael Recycles (I love that term, thanx whoever came up with it) of the industry try and hide it's not as easy.

Again, I could care less if you believe me or anyone else here.   I speak to these people, I know them.  I've seen the healing done after removal from one of those shitholes.  It's heartening to see a parent admit that they made a mistake, got rooked, allowed fear to rule and then took steps to correct it.  How many years and how much pain that could have saved me if this information had been available years ago?    It feels good to be a part of it happening now.

Any combination first/lastname and initial with 'worried parent' (or whatever) would get you in.

If youre that worried, use a proxy.

Anyway, why bother going in? They groupthink and herd the hell up, and freak out if someone challenges their views and beliefs, no matter how much evidence you bring up, or how much you bring up their lack of evidence.

They want 'support'. Or, rather, complicity. But ultimately its 'support for parents of stuggling teens' in much the same way you would 'support' parents that are pro-faith healing.

Oh, wait... they are!

But if anyone wants to see whats going on, just click here, and look at the posts at the bottom of the page after my own: http://www.strugglingteens.org/cgi-bin/ ... p=2#000040 (http://www.strugglingteens.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=001222;p=2#000040)

Im gonna start a new thread here and see if they bother to step up, or just hide from me as usual.[ This Message was edited by: Nihilanthic on 2006-05-11 01:44 ]
