Blue Ridge School is an all boys college preparatory boarding school grades nine through twelve. We serve young men who respond well to small classes, a structured environment, and a strong sense of community. Blue Ridge School is located twenty miles from Charlottesville, Virginia, home of the University of Virginia. Our campus, which comprises nearly 800 acres, lies at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We develop boys who are independent thinkers, creative problem solvers, self-directed and self-reliant.
Research suggests that teenagers in single sex environments outperform counterparts in coed settings. Boys tend to have more positive attitudes about subjects like art and music. Boys in a single-sex environment tend to be less distracted and are more focused on academics. Our boys also learn that, in developing a strong sense of camaraderie, they are not alone with their adolescent insecurities.
Blue Ridge School was founded in 1909 as The Blue Ridge Industrial School by the Rev. George P. Mayo of the Virginia Diocese of the Episcopal Church. As the name indicates, the School's early mission was to provide a vocational education for a coed student body which otherwise would not have had the opportunity to realize its rich potential. The School opened to approximately 35 students in January 1910, and when the word "industrial" was removed from the title years later, it added to the School's stature as an academic institution. Blue Ridge School, which still requires students to attend chapel three times per week, held its first commencement in 1918, when two graduates were awarded diplomas.
Tuition: $31,000 +
