Title: Boot Camps PRO or CON
Post by: stud3nt03 on April 23, 2006, 01:36:00 PM
Does anyone out there feel strongly about boot camps? Do you believe that they should be shut down or expanded even more? Lately there has been many cases of deaths for teenagers in boot camps such as Martin Lee, while other argue that boot camps are a good way to rehabilitate young offenders. Post your replies if you believe boot camps are PRO or CON and please leave resources for reference. I am conducting a survey and would like some results. Thank you for your time.

They've been proven noneffective many times over. Scaring a kid into compliance just doesn't work. I am con.

If you have any resources they would be greatly preferred, I actually have to write a report on this and would like to have something to refer to. Thank you in advance.

Hey sweetie,
Here's a few links to get you started. Google youth/juvenile boot camps for much more info. Look at why many states shut down their boot camps. You can start with Georgia. I know there's info available for that state's decision.
I am very much con.

At least 10 states, including Alabama, California and Georgia, have closed their camps (public)because of abuse, deaths and/or poor results. ...

Sorry to bump this thread, but here is an article which talks the pros and cons of sending your child to a boot camp for naughty kids: http://www.teenbootcamps.org/boot-camps ... -kids.html (http://www.teenbootcamps.org/boot-camps/the-pros-and-cons-of-sending-your-child-to-a-boot-camp-for-naughty-kids.html)

Boot camps are really effective in fixing attitude problems as well as helping teens with emotional growth. But before you send a troubled teen to a boot camp, it's very important that you understand what these boot camps are and how effective (or not) they are in transforming struggling teens.
