has anyone read the book yet?? The 1st hundred pages have been very painful to read...I wa thrilled she focused so much on the mental coercion though...

I bought it 2 days ago, and I'm almost halfway through it. Usually I can get through a book this size in about 2 days, but this one is too intense to read more than a chapter at a time. But even though it's very painful to even think about all the dirty tricks these places used on us, all the horrors and insanity that run rampant in these places needs to be exposed. I'll post again when I finish it, but so far, so good is my current opinion on Maia Szalavitz's book.
By the way, she's going to be a speaker at the International Cultic Studies Association's annual conference in Denver. http://cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_event ... f_home.htm (http://cultinfobooks.com/infoserv_events/2006/2006_denver_conf_home.htm)
Anyone else planning to attend?

what facility did you attend- Good to Be free?
I have also found this book extremely painful to read-- Over the weekend I found myself really feeling down, this issue is so incredibly loaded for me that it's really difficult to put the intensity of emotion to words...and 'my' facility, Mission Mountain School, was probably about half as bad as Straight...Well, maybe not half as bad b/c it was really bad, and I don't want to compare degrees of pain one can feel as they vary, but methods were similar, if not identical...
