Strangely, I do not remember Penny Walker. I know that she was there in 1984, but cannot conjure a face from memory. Does anyone know her arrival date at KHK?

The name of the head psychologist was Kathy Ballinger. This spelling may or may not be correct. At the time, she seemed to be running the show with total authority. She supervised all intakes, conducted parent interviews, and occasionally watched over rap sessions. She had to have known about the abuse in Straight because she frequently used its existence as an intimate psychological weapon against noncompliance.

I'd like to keep this on the Straight forum to discuss the Straight - KHK connections.

Several sub-pieces of information are begging to be inserted here:

1. Is Kathy Ballinger licensed, by what licensing/certifying board, where is her current practice.

2. Where was Penny Walker before KHK? Can anyone outline her rise to power? I heard she was in Straight before she went on to KHK. Can anyone verify this?

3. Can anyone remember the names of any crossovers from Straight to KHK? Did one program seed the other with parents and phasers?

4. Please tell us more about the staff going to see Straight and then reporting back to phasers at KHK. Why did they go to Straight in the first place? Was it part of their training as KHK staff? Was it required? A 7-Step thing?

I'm not sure how many from Straight Ohio joined in later, but KHK was originally "seeded" with 11 kids from the LIFE Program.  http://www.kidshelpingkids.com/History.html (http://www.kidshelpingkids.com/History.html)

LIFE was founded by George Ross and Helen Peterman (a parent from yet ANOTHER program called "The Seed"), who came from Straight St. Pete.  I was there in early '84, and don't know any names from the '81 era.

What was done with the seed saved from the India Hemp last summer? It ought, all of it, to have been sewn again; that not only a stock of seed sufficient for my own purposes might have been raised, but to have disseminated the seed to others; as it is more valuable than the common Hemp.

No, I was in LIFE in early '84.

Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.
