Yep, I deserved to be, hell, I ASKED TO BE (by my actions, y'know) incarcerated in Straight, Inc. I was a bad, bad druggie.

Yup, me too. I did the necessary things to be there. I deserved it. See, what I should have done was to snap Virgil's pencil neck the one time he came within arm's reach. Then I would have just been ajudicated for assault, maybe manslaughter, and been somewhere else entirely. Oh well, what's done is done. We can only learn from our mistakes.

I smoked pot, drank once ot twice, grew my hair long, skipped school a couple of days, and listened to rock music. I definitely needed Straight, as well as deserved it. Thank God I was saved from my druggie teenage self. Thank you, 85 Day Jerk, for waking me up to the fact that if not for Straight, Inc., I would have been DEADINSANEORINJAIL before the time I turned 17.

I would like to add my thoughts.
I chanted that for a long time: "My actions landed me in there".
They also got me raped, though I would never say that was something I endorse either. :smile: I believed for many years that I needed to be in some sort of "recovery" program. There I also heard that without that program I would be dead. My parents didn't know what to do with me, and the place ultimately saved my life.
Recently I have come to this:
Yes: my parents didn't know what to do with me. they couldn't handle the stress of my running away, twice coming home stoned and I think that was it. They blew the whole teenage thing out of proportion, in my opinion. I did however prove that I couldn't be trusted not to run away, sooo I suppose I was a threat to myself. My mother also was in denial about her mental problems and did not want to look at the fact that I might have the same thing going on, then she would have to acknowledge it.
I can also say that there is a good chance that worse things may have happenned to me had I stayed out on my own, however, that was my own fault. Since I had people to make decisions for me, my college money was spent: shouldn't I have gotten my money's worth?
We tried exactly one place before putting me in there. I have always felt it was more of a punishment than anything, no matter what they said.
My mother has since developed severe mental problems as well as chronic emphysema. She is a definate threat to herself and others I have had to become her guardian and figure out where to put her etc. I have had to make sure she had no car, hardly and money and is only out with nurses and folks who can supervise her.
She asked me: "Is this payback for Straight?"
My response was: "This would be a lot more painful for you if it were. You have the tv in your room, people take you out whenever you want" I listed some more things to her.
The point is, however, that I know it is pretty frieky when a loved one is out there running the streets. At the time you think they are dead,
I just wish they would have done some more research before putting me in there. That experience may have made me stronger in some ways, scrambled my head in regards to many others, made me doubt myself etc.
I do know, however that for some people the whole thing was worth it. That is a good thing. it is better than being pissed that thousands of $ went for that, not to mention over a year of my life.

Check it out people, I decided to start some serious discussion on this board for a change. The topics were all getting stale as far as I was concerned. I am not afraid to speak of things which may be unpleasant or cause people to squirm. I also state my name. Without fear of rejection or dissagreement from others. Tell me then, why do all the dissenters constantly have to hide behind the cloak of Anonymity? Why the pussiness? Is it because you can't bring yourselves to follow the simple instructions that Antigen set up to give yourself an identity? Or is it simply that you really do not have any real identity here or in the real world for that matter?

They were upper crust white bread punks that had gone their whole lives without a serious ass whooping. They had no values, no goals and no directions. Most went to private schools.

I would like to point out that the "personal" attacks are decidedly impersonal, Anon. You know, what with all the ANONIMITY. I find that makes it difficult to be personal.
That being said, can you explain exactly what it is YOU are resorting to in your second statement about the Horsemen? Usually that means you have no substance to back up what you've said, Anon. Right?

When I entered the program, I lived in a house that had the tax assessment value of less than 15 thousand dollars. I lived with a single mom and two sisters. We were on foodstamps and county assistance. I had my own lawnmower and provided my own clothing and school supplies. (so you say so what?) The bottom line is........I was poor, and getting sick of it. I lived in a shitty part of Largo off of East Bay Drive. I wanted a better life, and was given that option by my father, but only under the condition that I enter Straight, then I could come live with him and go from living on less than 10 thousand a year to reaping the benefits of a TWO income home living on over 40 thousand a year. I was 15 years old. I had only 3 more years before there were no more excuses or options. WHAT THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO ? What the hell would you knee jerk reactionists out there have done...... at 15, with no car, no money, no goddamn chance or choice. I tell ya, some of you people make me want to vomit, with your "wisdom." Very few of you know me, but if you took the time to do some damn research you would see how open I really am.
All that aside, there is some weird stuff going on downtown around the holocaust museum. I want to do an extremely tasteless stunt near that barbed wire fence they made. I hope to have a picture of it soon. There is also alot of missplaced anger going around lately. Either burn a fat one or head for the liquor store, just don't take it out on me. I think you're right, Jerk, there is a LOT of misplaced anger going around. We were all victimized by the same abusive institutions, the perps are still runnin' free and getting fatter with their bank accounts (with the exception of Rev. Dr. Dr. His Majesty Vice-Admiral Sir Virgil Miller Newton, who is hopefully wasting away, as bankrupt health-wise as he claims to be financially) and shitheads are doing the same things to kids today as they did to us twenty odd years ago. So, how did all this work out for you after you left straight? Did your life improve and did you get to stay living with your Dad?
