Things I have learned from watching the news about Hurricane Katrina on TV:
1. The hurricane only hit black family's property.
2. New Orleans was devastated and no other city was affected by the hurricane.
3. Mississippi is reported to have a tree blown down.
4. New Orleans has no white people.
5. The hurricane blew a limb off a tree in the yard of an Alabama resident.
6. When you are hungry after a hurricane, steal a big screen TV.
7. The hurricane did 23 billion dollars in improvements to New Orleans and the city is now welfare, looter and gang free; they are in your city.
8. White folks don't make good news stories.
9. Don't give thanks to the thousands that came to help rescue you, instead bitch because the government hasn't given you a debit card yet.
10. Only black family members got separated in the hurricane rescue efforts.
11. Ignore warnings to evacuate and the white folks will come get you and give you money for being stupid.
12. I feel so sorry for all those black folks.
13. Oh, and it is all George Bush's fault.
Now, for an additional evaluation of the situation:
For the people of New Orleans... First we would like to say, sorry for your loss. With that said, Lets go through a few hurricane rules: (Unlike an earthquake, we know it's coming)
1. A mandatory evacuation means just that... Get the hell out. Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go. If they hadn't said anything, I can see the argument. They said get out... if you didn't; it's your fault, not theirs. (We don't want to hear it, even if you don't have a car, you can get out.)
2. If there is an emergency, stock up on water and non-perishables. If you didn't do this, it's not the government's fault you're starving.
2a. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has some. (Remember, shoes, TV's, DVD's and CD's are not edible. Leave them alone.)
2b. If the local store is too looted of food or water, leave your neighbor's TV and stereo alone. (See # 2a). They worked hard to get their stuff. Just because they were smart enough to leave during a mandatory evacuation, doesn't give you the right to take their stuff... it's theirs, not yours.
3. If someone comes in to help you, don't shoot at them and then complain no one is helping you. Our military boys are not about to get shot while trying to help save some dumb ass who didn't leave when told to do so.
4. If you are in your house that is completely under water, your belongings are probably too far gone for anyone to want them. If someone does want them, Let them have them and hopefully they'll die in the filth. Just leave! For Christ's sakes, it's New Orleans, find a voodoo warrior and put a curse on them!
5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a 2 million dollar house, a sports stadium or a floating casino. Also, my tax money shouldn't go to rebuild a city that is under sea level. You wouldn't build your house on quicksand would you? You want to live below sea-level, do your country some good and join the Navy.
6. Regardless what the Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton want you to believe, the US Government didn't create the Hurricane as a way to eradicate the black people of New Orleans (neither did Russia as a way to destroy America). The US Government didn't cause global warming that caused the hurricane (We've been coming out of an ice age for over a million years).
7. The government isn't responsible for giving you anything. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, but you have to work for what you want. McDonalds and Wal-Mart are always hiring, get a damn job and stop spooning off the people who are actually working for a living.
Enough said........

Some observations:
1. It is not that there wasn't some truth in the post...that is what makes it (and the rest of the conservative agenda) so evil...it takes a good thing like personal responsibility...and twists it into..."let's not help anyone because it is not our fault (or their parents) that they were born into poverty to begin with."
2. Global warming not real? ::soapbox::
Ok, enough of this thread...life is too short...

Oh I said I'd keep my fingers off the keyboard regarding this, but alas I could not resist.
It's real easy to blame the victims without fully knowing their circumstances it appears. Many people just seem to be looking at it from what they would do in the situation.
If our society was not so plagued by racism and classism many would not have to turn to the govt for assistance.
Very sad pics to whoever posted the link. The land of the beautiful and free seems to be missing in those.

Well, it was called Humor, with a few accuracies.
Even pure fiction has a loose accuracy somewhere.
Anyway...
I keep hearing alot about looting "TVs vs. Food". Okay, I see the surface argument, but let's look a little deeper.
Say you've already hit the grocery store, and you have enough sustenance to last you and your family for six months. Say you've already hit the mall and the clothing stores, and stockpiled enough undies to get you thru next year.
But you have no shelter, and now, your place of employment has blown away.
You may have already heard the plight of Florida's victims already being told you that FEMA shelters are limited, and there's really no telling whether you'll be lucky enough to spend the next year (Yes, year - I live in SW FL and we have two very large FEMA parks here), in a two bedroom single wide with your entire family. You may have just have to resort to renting an RV and parking it next to the foundation that was once your house. (I know a family who had to do this, and they are finally moving back into the house - as of two weeks ago.)
So, you grab whatever you can in a panic, because once it all "blows over", so to speak, you might be able to sell that TV, DVD player... whatever... to make the monthly bill on your emergency housing.
What is the retail store going to do with it anyway, besides write it off as a loss, and collect insurance money?
Oh, and another question: Why the folks around here that had the big savings accounts so they didn't have to rely on the insurance companies (they had the cash to rebuild immediately) - bitching because the people in the FEMA parks are "still living rent free"?? No homes to move in to, mind you... but they're still supposed to be out "by now".
Think outside your TV, people.

Look buddy it's a long day. I changed to it "resist". Why was I thinking "exist" I don't really know.

It is about race as well. There's no reason it should have taken 5 days to help people. For the people left behind, America already didn't give 2 shits about them before this tradgedy. If anyone cared as much as they do now, the people would have had the resources to leave before this mess.
-
I agree that we should adapt more to mother nature. I also agree that human beings are waaaaay self centered and egotistical...
But the big difference today from the time of our ancestors is that big business is destroying the planet (at least its ability to sustain most life) and GWB is doing everything his power to help this process along... I personally believe that these hurricanes may be the planets immune system fighting back against the inhabitants that are trying to kill it...US!
Also, I believe in personal responsibility but there had to be some empathy (and realism)involved in the equation. Blaming impoversished people for not getting out of the path of Katrina even though they did not have $ or vehicles is very similar to blaming all of the kids in Str8 for not "copping out"...after all it was a choice not to "cop out"
so if they did not "cop out" they got what they deserved...

This is a natural occurence, that we will all see in some form eventually.. We each have a chance to make choices based on what history proves.. Nothing is forever. The world is an ever changing living being as are we. Which yes.. if a goverment asks us to believe in them, they must make plans for these disasters.. But we are all people and don't always make the fastest ,best decisions. SO we are faulting the goverment for being human? I am faulting us as a combined enitity who allowed this poor planning to occur in the first place. Not enough of us make a stand.

HA HA HA "all people were helped regardless of race". No they weren't, because if they were helped the help would have come before the hurricane. I suppose all those poor black folks down south have never experienced racism down there that helped create the situation they are in today and oh there's no obstacles that are in place to prevent them from becoming self suffient because after all this is the land of equal opportunity.
Very easy to view how things are supposed to be when your not the one living that life.

Before the hurricane? Yep, why didnt these and all people make plans before the hurricane?
Racism is real, I get that.. But it continues because we ALL allow it.. like I said before .. Not ENOUGH people make their stand in a timely matter.. I am guilty of this as well.
