I am on another forum about WWASP and a guy on there told me he found out at Cross Creek, it is illegal ( I belive for fire code saftey) for staff members to sleep in the hallway, however, almost all the staff sleep in the hallway. Does anyone have information on any other illegal things or codes these places are breaking? What is causing the other programs to be shut down?
-
whats the other message board?
-
A lot of things going on at WWASP programs is illegal. Students in the hobbit don't even get their daily nutritional requirements, and the standards are pretty damn low in the states where WWASP chooses to open business. They pick the least regulated states of all to open up in, so basically there is no infastructure in place to regulate them and/or shut them down.
These places are usually built in small towns, and provide a lot of employment. The kids all come from rich areas of the country, California, the northeast, etc.. none of the kids come from the town itself. That's a lot of money being pumped into the local economy. So there not willing to shut them down.
When it comes down to it, ignorance and greed still prevail. Only those abused in the programs know the truth, and nobody believes you when you explain it to them. OR don't care. Either way, it's up to us survivors to do something about these places because we are the only ones who know how fucked up they really are.
They clean up real nice when getting visitors from the state too. They scare the kids into behaiving and telling them what they want to hear. It's the upper level kids who interact with 'officials' who come and visit. It's a fucking scam... not sure what else to say. Just one more of those fucked up things in life that you can't seem to do anything about..

Sheesh, sounds like a real dog and pony show and the local officals are too stupid to know they are being scammed.
Sorry to hear about the upper level kids, but that is very common in these kinds of programs. These kids are damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Pathetic!

Who gives a fuck, woman?! Stop for a moment and thik. What kind of state of mind would you have to be in if your employer required that you sleep in the halls, and you complied!? Would you trust someone in that state of mind with your kids?
I don't know if this information is true and factual or not. But if you would even entertain the possability, then you obviously don't know these people well enough to trust them with your kid.

The staff don't sleep in the hall. The night shift staff don't sleep.
- No beds are in the hallways.
Rumors are meant to get people upset or have something to talk about...
-
Where the employees sleep is the LEAST of the problems going on at these facilities.
There have been multiple suicides. This is not a joke, kids will continue to die if nothing is done.
-
Employees at Spring Creek Lodge in Thompson Falls, Montana would slide a wooden bed frame with mattress in front of the door in the hobbit while they slept at night. This was in 1998, I cant speak for the current practices at SCL.

I was at Cross Creek for 14 months and the staff did sleep in the hallway. Every night.

Hey Ginger. Its Amanda and I just have recently come back here and posted this. Perhaps I should have been more clear on my intentions. A friend of mine was just wondering what the programs were doing that is not only child abuse illegal but other things that might be violations of fire cold, improper hiring regulations, ect. The comment about the hallway thing is just a small fraction of the bigger circle of illegal activities going on Im sure. I told him I would ask you guys for links and stuff to help him out. Trust me I agree with you and I dont trust them. I was just wondering for the sake of my friend needing information is all. If you have any links or whatever that would be awsome.
-
In 2000 - 2001 while isolated in the Hobbit, staff had bed/mattress up against the door.

Sorry, Amanda. I'm an idiot.
The nature of psychological compulsion is such that those who act under constraint remain under the impression that they are acting on their own initiative. The victim of mind-manipulation does not know that he is a victim. To him the walls of his prison are invisible, and he believes himself to be free. That he is not free is apparent only to other people. His servitude is strictly objective.

Awesome, thanks for the link (hope Ginger puts these links on her resource page so other kids can find each other)
I am very impressed with the intellect, humor, love, and forgiveness these kids have after surviving a boarding school from hell.
Rampant talking out of group ... like Ginger says .. YOU ROCK!

Ivy Ridge....staff and students slept in the hallways at various times from '02-'04.

That's odd b/c I grew up just 100-200 miles from the program which I was sent to, and there were 3 girls there that grew up in the same location as the school. The reason, for your information, that they have them in secluded areas is so it is easier to find the run aways...These programs do more than you ever could do, so why don't you just let them do their professional jobs!!!

Tell us this, why would it be easier to locate a kid in an unpopulated area than in an urban area?

Are you kidding? I can get lost in a city more easily than I can outside of some small town. Matter of fact, one of the times I split from Straight I landed up at a concert in Orlando. Called my mom up and told her right where I was so she wouldn't worry. No problem there. There were like 30k people in attendance.
Thompson Falls is a small town, SCL has been there for many years, the locals will turn in a runaway cause, evidently, they readily buy into the lie that these kids are all murderous, deranged criminals.
The [Büsh] aide said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible
reality.' I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. 'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.'

Don't forget the $1000 reward for finding the run-away. (that's what they tell the students)

Professioanl jobs? My goodness. If that wasnt such a sad comment it could be funny.
I wish they were professional. They're a bunch of uneducated hicks that have become thug like.
I wish they were professiaonls that's what I PAID for .Professionals.That is what we were sold.
Ignorants with lots of money honey NOT professionals.

not true, i was in cross creek for 14 months, and i have seen many night staff asleep in the halls

They catch kids easier in a rural area than an urban area because they can lock the area down.
Take Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where Boulder Creek Academy and Rocky Mountain Academy are located. Two campuses, about 15 miles from the nearest town of 5,000 people, surrounded by tons of nothing but wilderness. There is one road that will take you up or down the Idaho panhandle, one road that will take you to Montana, and one that will take you straight to Canada. And a railway system.
So when a kid runs, escorts and local authorities pretty much already have the kid caught. Program kids stick out like a sore thumb in a rural town like Bonners Ferry, so they can't hang around there for long. Half the people in town will be on the phone with the Sheriff's dept. as soon as they see the kid, whether they know there's been a run-a-way or not. Trying to jump the train? As soon as a run-a-way is reported, the train is searched as soon as a cop can get anywhere near it. The border? Forget it. And by foot? Not around there. Through the wilderness? Better be prepared...and they'll utilize helicopters as well as some pretty high-tech shit like thermal and night vision apparatus.
Think any of those precautions can do any good in the city? Never. It's so easy to blend into a city...and there are for more resources to utilize in order to reach your ultimate destination; home.
Am I saying a wilderness program is foolproof against escape? Hell no! People who had their escape thought it could make it with ease. But would I rather make a break for the city than the wilderness? You bet your ass!

Hi my name is Leah Swigert, I was at SCL and AIR. When I was at AIR they had students restraining other students. I actually restrained other lower levels many times, with out any training. I don't know if they are still doing that. I hope not, it is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Hey, bagheads, don't be shy to say your name.

Okay, here's the dealio..........or let's just say it used to be........the houseparents that where in charge of the girls who slept in the basement of the main building of Cross Creek Manor (that housed apx. 50 girls)used to sleep in the same room as us. Imagine a married couple sleeping in the same room as your kids. A lot of the husbands would be checking you out in your nighties!!! Ewwwwww!!!!!!!!!

ewwwww is right!
Hey, what about the Mormon thing? Any pressure to convert to Mormonism if not a believer?
Did they have those messed up TASKS seminars back then?
What about degrading girls? Like calling them sluts and stuff? Seems I read something about this in the Celeste Dochertman lawsuit?
-
No, they did not try and convert me into a mormon. But, if I used the lords name in vain (oh my god, jesus christ, etc) I would get in trouble with long essays, and work hours. I came from a family that said oh my god all the time!!! Needless to say, I was doing a lot of writing when I first got there.
There was a house parent by the name of Stuart Johnson, he loved to touch me underneath the blanket during movie time. His wife Sandy wasn't too happy about it though! He was the hottest thing around though, I couldn't help myself, I was horny, and deprived! Sorry Sandi!

Here are some things I'd question the legality of: physical restraints due to laughing or talking without permission (not as a last resort to keep a child from self-injurious or other potentially dangerous behavior), staff sleeping in front of the door, girls sleeping on mattresses in the hallway since they wouldn't ever admit to being at capacity, overmedicating with psychotropic drugs (does 90%+ of any given group need Ritalin & Prozac???), monitoring all mail, pulling grievances from the box intended for the State to receive and never turning them in, making kids jump on trash in the dumpster each night to pack it in, secluding those whose sexual identity was lesbian or bisexual, requiring extended periods of silence (remember Cameron's "baseball" game where he'd put us on silence and send us to bed if it got too loud three times)- and I am talking days in a row with this group silence punishment, prohibiting us from using a system of gestures developed in response to chronic group silence punishments, doling out group consequences period, and I'm sure more I can't think of just now. They used to always say that an entire group wouldn't talk until someone came clean or narced someone else off. Also, I do not think that level advancement and consequently the ability to go home should be left to a group of teenagers to decide. It seems that legally our advancement in a therapeutic program should be determined by a qualified therapist.
-
These programs do more than you ever could do, so why don't you just let them do their professional jobs!!!
Ex-gas station managers (MR.KAY) and people who have little education beyond high school (MR. Litchfield and a host of others in the WWASP organization) are not professionals. A professional would be someone who has received a degree in a related field and has receiving proper training to work with troubled teens. Not a bunch of greedy ignorants who decided that they would simply make up their own guidelines for treatment of troubled teens after managing a gas station.

I was at Spring Creek for about 10 1/2 months. It was one fucking nightmare of a chapter in my life. I got sent there basically because I hated my dad, my mom was dead, i didn't get great grades in school, and i liked weed and cigarettes. The whole time I was there, the only activities available were reading books, doing school, eating, sleeping, shitting, and socializing. Finally i turned 18 and came back to Anchorage where i now reside. The only thing i got from there was a meloncholy feeling and a diploma. I couldn't benefit from what that place had to "offer" beause i had different attitudes and beliefs, and i already knew anything they had to say. The whole program meets the definition of a 'total institution' where the victims are faced with an array of tactics to strip them of their personal identity. I will agree that it may help a small percentage of the victims in the long run, but from what i saw, it only left the victims depressed, suicidal, craving drugs, and generally hating life.
I saw many aspects of the operation to be in conflict with general logic and law: the victims are not allowed access to legal counsel or law enforcement, they are subject to assault by staff for misbehaving or a.k.a. "not following the huge number of ridiculous rules or restrictions imposed," there is no phone to contact relatives or friends, meals can be withheld to attempt to alter your behavior, meals are not satisfactory or nutritional. There is a lack of social opportunity and progress, poor medical assistance. Some victims may be subject to wear one layer of clothes in temperatures below 45 degress for long periods of time. It goes on and on.
The saddest part is that there are similar programs that are even worse. I am sure if someone got a good lawyer, these programs would either be shut down or forced to make drastic improvements...

Hmmm. How about the SRO officer? She's there three days a week. How about the 60-day calls EVERY student gets, regardless of status? How about the certified nutritional program? How about the three medical doctors and all the nurses? How about the grievance process? And a still more relevant question: What level did you make?
Your lies are more about you than they are about Spring Creek.

Now that's just bullshit. Only prisoners in level 3 - 6 can make (or receive) phone calls. The grievance process is non-existant-- it is included in the parents manual to make the parents feel good. Damn dude, I could have wrote that myself. We had very similar experiences. I also was at SCL for about 10 months before I turned 18 and left. Fucking sucked! Anyways, if you ever want to talk to more survivors hit up myspace groups and search for WWASP. a bunch of SCL and WWASP survivor groups are popping up nowadays. I know it helps to talk to people.. making sense of the unexplainable and shit can be difficult. Have a great life man, you deserve it after being in that hell hole!

Sixty day calls implemented over a year ago, regardless of level. Why does scl employ a full-time person to do nothing but quality control, including grievances? And the doctors are on the scl website. You can confirm that with the secretary of state's office, too. Ditto the nurses. So whoever posted this has obviously never been there.

This is copied from a CSA contract from Feb. 2005. Since the programs is identical in all facilities, this applies to SCL as well:

ADDENDUM #9
COMMUNICATION WITH STUDENTS
The following is an outline of recommended Parent/Student communication and visit schedule.
It is imperative that the student has frequent communication with their parent(s), and that the parents have appropriate access to visit their child. It is also important that the student is committed to work and earn advanced communication
and visitation privileges. Years of experience and thousands of successful graduates have shown that following this recommended schedule will greatly enhance the school experience for your child and increase their opportunity for successful graduation.
Entry and Achievement Status (former Levels 1&2)- unlimited and uncensored letter writing, parents receive
weekly or bi-weekly (parent choice) progress reports by telephone from Family Representative. Students may
send messages to parents through Family Rep. Letter writing and progress reports continue throughout the students stay.
Parent Child Seminar I- Student needs to be a graduate of the Focus Seminar (this is their second seminar: seminars come every 6 weeks). Parents required to be a Discovery Seminar graduate (this is the parents first
seminar and may attend as soon as they admit their child). Parents spend two days with their child attending the
Parent Child 1 Seminar on campus. If the student has been in the program for over 6 months they will be invited to this Parent Child 1 Seminar regardless of status.

Father/Guardian Mother/Guardian"
Nothing about a phone call every 60 days for every prisoner, regardless of level. And I find SCL's facade entertaining, but not all that convincing. WWASPS' medical "care" was and still is at its worst, because WWASPS doesn't really give a damn about anything except for indoctrinating its prisoners into believing they've been "saved".
-
Yes, they do get calls every 60 days. Not to anyone but their parents. What i said, was that they dont get them to friends or relatives. Yes, the nutritional program may be certified but to montana's "standards" which the students get no say in, and that does not mean they staff do not withhold meals illegally, which i witnessed. There never was an SRO officer in sight, ever. The whole "grievance process" is a fucking complete joke and only applied to "consequences" not other issues. There are docters and nurses, but the care is 3rd rate, sometimes never applied, or takes too long.
I would really like to know who wrote that first reply to my post. It is either some desperate parent in denial, one of the programs staff fearing for his job, or a successfully brainwashed former student defending his former owners like the little bitch he always was.
NOW, i will agree that program can benefit some people but they try way too hard to pressure people into conforming (even if it hurts the "student") when most of them need other forms of treatment not available in a shit hole like spring creek.
If you can read this Chaffin, Cameron, or that red faced little bitch (Payne?) who I saw fuck the grievance chick in my cabin, and all you other pathetic SCL employees: I have to hand it you all for setting up something that reaps in the cash and blindside parents while they throw it away in flawed hopes of their kids recovery, but you truly are some twisted uncaring bastard child abusers. Yah, thats right... i agree that many of the girls and a few of the guys are diseased and may need to be put out of theit own misery you help create, but seriously, may god have mercy on your withered souls.
PS i am going to college and will become more successful than all of you scl bitches combined, and i will have your program and others drastically altered or destroyed in a legal way.
good day.

One more thing, all of you SCL and WWASP program employess, investors, and supporters, just take a deep deep look at youselves, deep. Look at the life you lead. It may be good it may be bad. Look the kids that that suffer and may be suicidal and CANNOT benefit from your program and others despite the number of kids that do benefit. You need to inform the parents of these kids that there are many other options available for the proper treatment for their kids and their problems. Its for the benefit of a greater humanity... my interest and the world's.
Analyze, contemplate what is right, and go for it, that is why i am here, for what is right for me and what is right for my fellow brothers and sisters of whatever god there may be.

Advanced Status (former Level 3)-Students have one 15 minute phone call with parents monthly. Students can earn this status as early as 3 months from admission.
Service Status (former Level 4) -Students have two 20 minute phone calls with parents monthly. They also have one 3-day visit a month in local area (not overnight).
Honor Status (former Level 5)-Students have three 20 minute phone calls with parents monthly. They also have one 3-day overnight visit a month in local area (not at home).

Your premise is wrong. The programs are not at all identical. So the rest of your post is invalid.
-
Well said student,
The staff should inform parents their child is not benefiting from their "treatment".Then again the money would leave with the child. That aint going to happen. For the betterment of humaniity or not.
They truly dont care.

Yep!
-
Your premise is wrong. The programs are not at all identical.
That's an absurd statement. The program is identical in all facilities. Same abusive, dangerous seminars, same ridiculous rules, same methods of punishments (worksheets, solitary confinement, etc.), same confrontational, harmful "family meetings".
So the rest of your post is invalid. "
The rest of the post is part of a WWASPS document. Or are you going to call the program's own statements "invalid"?
The basic fact is that the program is abusive, dangerous, and harmful to children. WWASPS' main purpose is to make big money for its executives by indoctrinating children and parents by the use of cultic methods (Lifespring seminars). The program must be shut down and banned.
-
ABSOLUTELY - BUT HOW?
-
dont take it personally. these program trolls consider anything that doesnt agree with the program as 'invalid'.
-
I heard the exact same things being said about the Aspen programs -

im reluctant to think they can. the industry thrives on the ignorance, fear and deep pockets of todays middle and upper class suburban families, and they are not in short supply. i think its more prudent to teach teens about these places before they are sent. counter-program tactics in case they are sent, fundraising to help 18 year olds who want to leave, raising media awareness (rich kids being abused in a cult.. more at 11) type shit, and anything else that will hamper the programs ability to permanent destroy the psyche of teens. WWASP declared war on me, and that I will never forget.

No way! WWASP has the monopoly on child abuse. In my opinion, and many others who have experieced them.

Spoken like a true ed con that gets paid by Aspen Education Group to refer to them.
If you don't know...WWASPS doesn't pay edcons to refer to them so they say whatever they can to make a buck with Aspen schools. DUH!!

This is some serious human rights stuff we are talking about here. There is plenty to do in terms of ending the unlawful and inhumane treatment of the kids in any "program" despite their behavior and problems. There needs to be some new federal regulations SPELLED OUT clearly of the rights and responsibilities of the parents, kids, and employees in or involved in these "programs" in the USA or not. There needs to be mandatory laws that inform the kids 18 or not, of their complete rights and options as USA citizens, especially in foreign countries.
Every current law needs to be reviewed and new laws need to be made for the complete, humane, and benefit of the kids. This all should be reviewed by non-biased lawyers, legislators, and representatives of all sorts. By unbiased I mean not brainwashed or paid-off in any which way. Yes some these kids have problems, but brainwashing and intimidation of all sorts needs to end, NOW. There needs to be proper guidelines specifically defining what can and connot happen no matter how problem-ridden a kid is, no matter what country they are in. They are USA citizens, kids, kids some of who just need time and the right environment to see the light... nothing like which goes on in these "programs."
This effort for the good of humanity will take you, me, and every good hearted person to step up and not put up with anymore of this ridiculous crap that we face every day in many forms, but specifically in terms of human rights and "programs."
Keep spreading the truthful word, keep researching the truth about what goes on, keep sharing it, write representatives or get in contact with who you can, use your powers: if you are a writer, reporter, or newscaster, get and honest story out.
#My suggestion is that we set up a web site focusuing on human rights and the acts against it, specifically these "progams." Through this specific site (which should be dedicated to the truth, include detailed information regarding other options for parents and their kids besides "programs" and may include selling t-shirts and coffee mugs supporting the site) good people will be able to share information and more easily progress in our effort. There are many possibilities. We need an effort, web designers, supporters, people knowlegale in law and research. The truth must be spread, changes need to be made.

I just had the parents of one of my students send their son to Cross Creek. I know about the WWASP organization and I am very concerned about his safety. (Of course, I was very concerned about his safety at home, too and it is no wonder that his parents picked a WWASP program!)

Okay let's see here.......you're concerned because they sent him to Cross Creek (which is a WWASP program), and are concerned about his safety? But, you were concerned about his safety at home, and it's no wonder his parents picked a WWASP program?????!!! It's no wonder his parents picked a WWASP program? Why is he such a "bad kid" that he is getting what he deserves?!!!
Sorry, I am not really understanding what you are trying to say! Maybe I am reading it wrong???
-
Maybe they mean "no wonder" because it's evident that the WWASP empire comprises many of the programs in existence.

I think she was questioning the parents' judgement in general.
-
the parents of the student in question were abusive...the father admitted to me that he used "physical force" all the time...most recently when he saw his son "glaring" at the mother. I had all I could do not to glare at both of them. The kid was adopted and the parents were working the system for $$$$. It would seem logical that they would purposely choose an abusive program. The kid was not a bad kid. I never had any trouble with him. He was my best student.
I did report the abuse which is probably why the parents elected to send him so far away.
-
Sorry to hear about that. What do you mean by working the system for $$$$? It sounds to me like they do well enough for themselves, especially if they are sending him away?
It is common for parents like this to totally blame the child for all the problems in the household while taking little or no responsibility themselves. You see it time, and time again.
Good thing is, they sent him to the right place. I mean they want him emotionally beat into being subservient, right? Well, WWASP will handle all that for them. God forbid they all take a trip to the family therapist and work on all the issues at hand.
Well, good luck. I went through this program, and I think it's a real joke. They have no clue on handling kids. I was there 15 years ago, and I thought it would be a better place by now. I thought that they would be turning a larger profit, and maybe putting some money back into the program to make it a better place for kids to be at. I was wrong. It's become more, and more like a kiddie prison filled with stories of abuse. The punishments are much worse, and the walls are higher.
Instead of taking the money and investing it into just a few schools, and making those schools top of the line, they choose to open up 8 facilities, with very little money, and poor staff training. You see, by having real therapists, and trained staff, maybe some tennis courts, a soft ball field, or perhaps horses? These kids might have a chance at bettering their lives.
Look, Bob Lichfield could clean up his act. They all could if they really wanted to. But, they choose not to. They choose to pocket the money.
I really hope he does the right thing. For starters he could take the 10 acres he owns down in the valley, and turn that into a activity center. It might be larger then 10 acres, I can't remember exactly, but he did purchase the property right next door that used to belong to my therapist Dr. Dave Goodwin. Unless he's split off the acres of land he has into seperate parcels he could easily do that. He has no other neighbors, so it's not like this would be disruptive to them????
Whatever, it's frusterating, I feel for these kids. But, greed is going to be what kills them. WWASP will be squashed. I just wish it would come sooner then later. Especially when I hear what the kids are going through now.
-
The system used to work only for foster care...with foster parents receiving a check from the state. However, new legislation has gone into effect that provides parents of ADOPTED children with the cash to do what they will with their adopted children.
These parents, in particular, fit the bill of wanting a subservient child who will be eternally grateful for the beatings and meager bread he has received.
It's not an uncommon things among adoptive parents.
-
It's a sick world we live in. I'm not sure what you can do for him???? I'm sure if you are a teacher, as you say you are, then you can figure it out. There must be a ton of resources at your fingertips. Use them!!! For his sake, use them.
-
Seems like sleeping in the hall is the least of their problems. These places should all be burned to the ground, and the people who created them should be behind bars. If family members who sent their kids there knew about the goings-on there, they should be charged with child abuse. This is sick.
-
You should be ashamed of yourself for recommending your student to this program. It's torture. Would YOU send your own child there?
