I once drank a bottle that a girl brought back from Spain.  It was kinda like nitrous oxide combined with being very, very drunk.  It tastes nasty as all hell, hence melting the sugar into the shots, and I can usually drink anything comfortably, up to and including cheap whiskey.  I hear you can order it online from places like the Czech Republic.  It's not something you want to use regularly, because some of the psychoactive chemicals, thujones, that are found in absinthe remain in the liver permanently.  Repeated regular use leads to toxicity, which leads to the legendary "madness" induced by excess consumption of absinthe.

As long as the thujone content is fairly high and you prepare it correctly, you'll enjoy it.
I drink more of it than hard liquor and it gets expensive unless you buy in bulk.

Don't do the homemade shit... thats the equivlant of making fine wine outta grape juice concentrate, and most of the "recipes" are bogus anyways.
ANd if you do aquire some, moderation, moderation, moderation... my friend drank half a bottle and didn't sober up for a weekend
