It might just show the reality to you people, that not all of these places are abusive.

Good Grief! They aren't going to starve them or dehydrate them to death on camera!
They aren't going to make fun of them as they die in front of a national audence!
But does it happen? Yes it does.

The worst part is that these kids are NOT going to be mistreated on camera. Millions of parents will get a false positive impression of BM programs, and will be all the more willing to consider using them.  And new fly-by-night operators will spring up to meet the demand, the kind of people who caused the deaths of Michelle Sutton and Aaron Bacon.  If Brat Camp airs, some kids will die as a result and many more will be abused.

I agree that if this show airs parents will get a false sense of security and some who may have considered otherwise might be persuaded to now send their child off to an unlicensed and unregulated facility, putting their child in harms way.

Yes, because of the show children will most likely be abused and/or neglected, and some may die. On http://www.caica.org (http://www.caica.org) under "facility watch" - there's a section on "deaths" in there, listing some of the deaths that have already occured. Since there is no agency monitoring this, just imagine that the number of deaths could be much greater.

The point being that most of these children died as a result of abuse or neglect, not just natural causes. That is the important thing to remember. We are working so hard to educate the public about this industry and shows like this just undermine our efforts.

From the adds it looks like they show the kids before the program to gain the sympathy of the viewing audience.  They try to show how bratty and rebellious they are so that the audience will appreciate the rough treatment they receive. It looks like just another way to make money.  Does anyone know what organization allows this program?  It's almost like a survivor type program. Pretty soon there may actually be teens who want to be on the program and will endur the hardships just to be on National Television.  This is pure exploitation.

Another thought - this program COULD be a way to inform the public about the dangers of these programs and educate the public or make it a more newsworthy issue.

Yes, this is very, very true. Anybody else catch the sick joke ABC played on their Desperate Housewives audience?

Obviously, ABC is not the least bit interested in the truth of this matter. Big surprise!

Now, imagine this, radical as it may seem. What if we didn't have Big Brother (FCC) holding up a virtual blockade of the public airwaves? What if anyone who could hobble together a transmitter and some content could pick up a license for $150 or so, which would bind them to stick to their frequency and power limits and then broadcast whatever they wanted to? What if you didn't have to be a politically connected millionaire to get your side of any issue out there?

As it stands, freedom of the press belongs eclusively to those who own a press. Way back when, presses were expensive. Now it's a purely artificial scarcity.

I think it's funny as hell that the manor infotainment networks are now dedicating broadcast time to bloggers. Was anyone surprised when the bloggers started busting them out on their slipshod work?

I wonder if the onld hams are still campaigning to knock FCC out of the game?

There has already been one kid on the ABC Family Brat Camp forum asking how to get on the show.

I think the problem is that Americans think that suffering, discomfort, bad things in general, hardship, etc, is "good", "beneficial" and "character building".

Where the hell did that come from, and why dont we just beat and sodomize everyone before they graduate highschool (becuase everyone points out children HAVE NO RIGHTS PER THE CONSTITUTION!) to make 'em grow up into good adults, huh?
