Title: straight inc 90 -92, Chesapeake to Atlanta
Post by: VAandGAsurvivor on November 18, 2002, 04:11:00 PM
I was in the exodus from a closing down Straight inc in Chesapeake, to Atlanta Straight. I am wondering who was in either of my groups ? I was in VA from 8/90 to maybe 1/91 or whenever it shut down and in atlanta from 91-92. Please let me know if you were in those time frames, I live in WA state now, and am doing fine, but it would be interesting to see who is out there. Thanks

I am not sure who you are but who can forget that place.  It was like hell on earth. I am skepticl to reveal my name on this website.  I was there and part of the reason the one in Springfield shut down.  The counselors their were awful.  Do you remember Thorpe Gregory, Rob Wick and Kanoh Hanyes.  There was one more a chubby guy.  I don't remember his name.  My counselor Ken Barker was an ass they found porn pictures in his office.  I ran away while I was there.  I wish I could get in touch with some of those people.  It has taken me 20 years to get over the constant abuse I suffered their. In the end I was restrained everyday.  Did you know that Child Protective Services is the ones that came in and closed them down. Let me know if you remember any of those people or others. email me at jordianz@yahoo.com

I don't have any people from the Georgia or Chesapeake, VA programs thus far. Nor for the Georgia derivative - Phoenix. If anyone is interested in telling me about their program experience for my book, (hint, hint, Anthony!)you can e-mail me at:

leighann43@juno.com

I don't use last names, I can change your first name, and I protect your anonymity.

Hi All,
I was in the Atlanta Program from 90-92.  So I am sure we were there together your name I remember Kevin.  My name at the time was Susan L. I entered when I was 14 years old and quiet  so I am afraid not very note worthy as far as "phasers" went.

jordianz@yahoo.com, none of the names you mentioned were counselors in Springfield, VA while I was there 6/90 - 6/92....we moved to MD in 91, but the program did not close down until several months after I graduated in 92.  Were you maybe in the Virginia Beach Straight?  That one did close down in late 90, early 91 and many of the phasers came to Springfield.  By that time we did not belt loop or restrain.  When you say counselors, I'm assuming you mean graduates on staff....like Jim White and Craig ? and Shane Welsh(not sure about this last name), Nikki ?.  Oh, by the way....my name is Shannon (Fuhrman back then).

That was relatively common for Springfield Straight....double host homes.  By the time I graduated, there were only 3 girls, then just me and my nc.....so that I didn't have to be aware 24/7, we stayed at a guys' house and the guy oc's had the ability to be aware for me.  Before I went there, my host parents were able to be aware for me.....It got quite stressful being the only girl oc!

I transfered up from St petersburg. I was a lone transfer due to being an MisB I mostly chilled with Adam C. and a girl I lived with at the Bopreaus or whatever. It was one of the only hosthomes with girls and guys and no newcomers. I really thought the world of her and we were really good friends. We went to Wheeler high School together on third phase and when I copped out she was busted by the group for "knowing" all about it. I felt bad about that for years. I hope she sees this and gives me a shout

You mentioned a bunch of names of people like Shane, Craig, Jim and nikki. All of those people I was on my phases with besides Nikki (she was Sr. staff) Jim was my host brother for a long time. I graduated on Nov 2nd of 89 and I virtually lost contact with just about everyone. My best friend till this day is Aaron C. (I'm sure you remember him). I would love to chat or email with ya sometime and hear some of your experiences with some people that we both knew. Let me know. Did you have a brother that was in when I was there?

I can't believe it ms bopreau actually had friends??  Don't feel to bad about her abuse after you left that was just part of the game.  We all got shit and received it.  By  the way do you remember the executive staff Mr. Waterbury's first name?  I was thinking about that man the other day...the only human executive staff member Straight ever had while I was there.

Having said I hated ms b I hate to hear what happened to her brother after the program...I think he was a nice kid.

You misunderstood me. The misb stands for misbehavior. I didnt get on well with bopreau at all. I was referring to my host sister in her home. She was a good friend of mine and what not. I do not remember the name of Mr. Waterbury. I barely recall the name at all since I was in a hellish daze. Who are you by the way?

Who Am I?

I never directly give my name away on these kind of public forums...but I remember that guy Adam you mentioned...hmmm...you chilled with him...well I don't know how to respond to that but think about the things that guy said in group...would you give your identity away?  That guy always struck me as a boy in need of lots of help.

However I am trying to remember a transferred "misbehaving" type turned third phaser turned cop out...can't seem to remember you...

My name is Bill but there were two Bills I think at the time. I was younger and I came up from St Pete. I wasn't so social you have to understand. I just did a year and change in St Petersburg and wasnt even considering riding Atlanta out either. I lived in Beaupre's host home with Pete his sister me and my friend Susan. It was a two on two no newcomer hosthome. I came in in the spring I guess as I seem to remember it still being a bit chilly when I arrived. I stayed as a newcomer at a hosthome a bit far from the Building. I think it was the house of a guy on fifth phase who drove a blue gto or some sort of 70s era car of the same likeness. He was older than eighteen and I think his name was Len or Leo. I did quite a big satrecth at Adam Cs house when he was an oldcomer and we became friends as a result. His brother made oldcomer and I did as well around the same time so I went to the Beaupres. I was friends with another guy named Charles who got pulled while I was on 2 or 3rd. He was the kid who brought me to group when I first arrived. I really cant imagine any other detail that would stand me out other than when I bailed. Wheeler high School in October or so. I bailed after school on a friday and never returned.

And maybe this will jog your memory. I bailed right after a third phase review or refresher or whatever they called it cas I was ditching PE at school and got caught by Mrs. Crawford. I really hated that woman with every ounce of my being. She is permanently etched in my black book.

I remember alot of those names.  I graduated the same night as the guy with the 70s era car.  Don't worry I wasn't very social either.  Infact I take pride that in a place like Straight I didn't stand out.  Actually if I stood out it was probably for being a total emotional wreck.  I think I cried 50% of the time. Pretty strange to think about now, hell I can't remember the last time I got that emotional.  I became a favorite for staff when the past part of a rap was going badly b/c I always cried.

I was trying to remember the friend you mentioned Susan, if she was a transfer also from another Straight program I do remember her.

I always get a kick out of hearing old names from that place.  I am trying to remember who you are so far I can only place the other Bill I guess b/c he was local if my memory serves me correctly.
