Title: What kind of political views do former tyranny victims hold?
Post by: Tampa survivor on November 12, 2002, 09:41:00 PM
Having been held against my will (and against the floor at times) for two years, I have powerful feelings about freedom and self-determination. I thought this might be a common theme with us, but I see posts with powerfully anti-individual sentiments regularly here which are counter to that theme. I am a Libertarian. I vote all over the place, and split my ticket royally in FL this last time. I detest dems who think they KNOW the way for us and want to regulate, stipulate, and help us "regular folk" along. Poverty pimps. Oops, the blacks just taught them a lesson on that one by staying home in FL and now we are Republicanized to hell. I despise Republicans who talk law and order, but don't take that lesson home for themselves. Talk tax breaks while increasing spending. But it sure beats socialistic wealth redistribution. Hmmm, your thoughts? Bill

I think most politicians are lying, egomaniacs who don't know shit about "regular folks" since they never were "regular folk". They say whatever it takes to get elected, then say all the nice programs they promised aren't "economically feasible". As long as they get to see their picture in the paper a few times a week while they sit in their mansions, they're happy as fleas on dogs. I'm sure there's a few out there who actually care, but I can't name one right now. Dem or Rep - they're all the same to me.

No offense but -
To hell w/ it...I had neither the time nor (mainly) the desire to vote...It was between a bad democratic candidate & a republican...Moist crap or dry crap. (I live in MD.) Until a decent party comes into existence, they can all kiss my a$$! Plus this way, I probably won't be called up for jury duty...

The way I look at it is nothing will ever be perfect, and people will always disagree.
When it comes to voting I usually do a protest vote and go with either the Green or the Libertarian party.
I don't believe in any of it, but I still vote. The city I live in is famous for election foulups. Last election there were ballot boxes found floating in the bay waters the next day. This election there weren't enough ballots in certain precincts and voters were turned away furious. Oh, and of course the old "dead people sending in absentee ballots" trick still happens.

I believe in these things -
I believe in treating people fair;
I believe that people should be paid a living wage for an honest days work;
I believe that all Americans should have medical insurance;
I believe that the elderly should be taken care of in the last years of their lives;
I believe in publically funded education including a publically funded college education (at least the first 2 years);
I believe in affordable, decent, standard housing for all Americans;
I believe that people with mental illnesses should have good treatment and if they can't afford it then they should have publically funded mental health treatment;
I do not believe in the death penalty - murder is murder no matter who commits it and that it is wrong to take a persons life (People that are executed in Florida have homocide as the cause of death on the death certificates);
I believe in a hard days work;
I believe that we should pay taxes;
I believe in honesty, not the crap they taught us in straight;
I believe in the golden rule;
I believe in land use regulation - the developers and politicians are killing my State;
I believe in neotraditional town planning and urban sprawl is the blight of America;
I believe in free access to our government;
I don't believe that $$ should grant a person access to representation;
I believe in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (the US govt will not sign or agree to it)
I believe in equal rights for all Americans; ERA!!
I believe that the straight/host home model should be illegal;
I believe in helping my fellow man (and woman)...
I believe I'll go have a beer!
If that makes me liberal, then so be it. I believe that I will have to answer to my maker when I die and he will ask me how did I help my fellow man;
I believe if I live the above, then I will be ok.

Shelbys got that right...dems/repubs all making noise with slightly different instruments. The fleecing of america takes place while we listen to Rush Limbaugh or read liberal columnists thinking thats good politics. We ought to listen to the Greens and the Libertarians for the sorta real ideas. Doesn't seem to matter who's in charge...the drug war marches on... Bill

:wstupid:
It has been said that the term "Libertarian Party" is an oxymoron. I can see that. It's hard to get a bunch of people together on anything when the core philosophy that binds them is about rugged individualism. On the other hand, the last time a 3rd party had as many candidates up for election as the Libs had in the last two elections, it was the Algore's daddy's American Socialist Party. And we can all pretty plainly see what kind of legacy they've left us. I can only hope to leave such a strong Libertarian legacy for my grandkids.
