"Totally right,

Throughout Cedu there was an extreme power struggle going between the therapist and staff allies and the old school staff that did not want to change things.  I can remember addressing the yelling and the disrespect people endured.  Essentially being told to be quiet or else.  All you can do is try to protect children in the environment and work to change staff beliefs  A corporation tends to take on a life of its own, a separate entity, and just like animals; it will protect itself from change.  For former students who are resentful of their stay there....fight to change it.  Don't sit there and critize from afar.  Get involved, get proactive, finish your education and manifest change.  When trying to change something, its good to have energy on it but the reality is systems resist change.  There needs to be a coordinated effort in the state policy.  Its easy to be angry and resentful.  Its harder to do something positive with it.

Good luck

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the below quote. CEDU / Brown will not be financially able to fund a failed program for much longer.

They already sold their behavioral health facilities to pay for debt run up in the first few years of their operation. Following this, they had operating capital that was blown on physical improvements and funding losses from the decreasing population at all of the schools.

In each case, the course they take is to fire the last round of bad people in management and replace them with worse people.

Who do they choose? They choose the old guard of the Cult Brainwashing Boarding School Movement (WWASP etc.). These are people with limited knowledge and education, people, who don't realize that their time is past and the party is over.

CEDU RMA tried to train staff in 2000 to adopt a standard social service code of ethics.

The whole staff got up and refused to follow it. Not supprizingly, one can trace the beginning of the corporate disintegration to this exact incident.

Why? Because Brown was unwilling to fire dissenters; because they pretended nothing happened; beecause from that time forward the dimwit floor staff were in charge.

Thus, a precident was established at that time that if you are old-CEDU and you believe education is irrellivant, training is outside interferance, and ethics are imposed limitations then you have all the power.

This, therefore, established the persisting myth that high school graduates can run programs better than therapists.

It solidified the notion that those who understand the legal and ethical issues of treatment are worthless. It established that those who respect human rights are pawns of the liberal establishment to be scoffed at and laughed out of the room.

No, my friends, Brown/CEDU is not financialy solvent. This is the second round of losses in the tens of millions.

And, since they continue to operate outside the boundaries of ethical practice, continue to use uneducated hicks from Bonners Ferry as "counselors," continue to use token therapists to collect state school funding while ignoreing their warnings and ethical advisement, because they let uneducated and unethical people lead and manage their programs. Sorry, there will be a third round of losses in the tens of millions.

They are already gone and are just buying time,  probably by lying to investors.

If they can throw more money at the problem areas, shut people up , they will continue on their merry way, laying waste to god knows how many more people. I wish it weren't so, but it is, it is how this country is built. also, the economy has been down for a while, money is not tossed around quite as much as in the mid 90's, the heyday of cedu expansion"

This clearly can't fly in today's business climate - especially the sensitive and emotionally loaded human services climate of today.

Yes, thanks, I hope she reads it too. We all have to come to terms with our "dark side." This is how we evolve.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I hope I can live up to them 90 percent of the time.

I hope CEDU can reflect on their actions. I just dug up an old program design I presented to them years ago suggesting that we go to a humane approach that respects students rights. They rejected it outright.

I have peace in the knowledge that, if they would have adopted my new program design they would have become successful and led the industry. Kids and staff would have been healed, grandosity left behind with humanity and good will prevailing.

Deep down, I want nobody to suffer. Deep down I want to heal. I do believe one can recover from CEDU - or anything. For me, this is part of it. Thanks for the encougagment and acknowledgement.

One more thing. Jack is right. What I said was innappropriate and totally wrong. I am wounded and I appologize. To everyone who read what I said. I just get very upset when parents want to send their children away to these Gulags.

Please accept my appology and honest desire to avoid venom in my speach.

Jack is right. Use it as a guage of how bad others can become by spending time there. I did not like the person I became and I am still shaking off the toxicity of the place and my own anger about it.   :wstupid:

Any person who spent 7 years at CEDU and doesn't tell you right up front (on this post) what they think of it, is probably a brainwashed member or has an agenda such as being one of the many so called, "ed consultants."

What Jack said was very insightful and he clearly knows exactly what he is talking about.

As a former CEDU therapist myself I can verify that everything he says is literally true. Don't trust Lon, Don?t trust any ed consultant who hasn't been a therapist at the school you are looking into.

I think I know who this person is and they are
still working there and are brainwashed by the system.

As a therapist who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I can assure you that neither I nor any of my colleagues would ever recommend a CEDU school or any other emotional growth program without having experienced it directly.

CEDU is totally out of line with the code of ethics we professionals operate under. This code holds us to respect and dignity of the client, to respect the self determination of the person, and to allow them the right to choose and guide treatment planning. CEDU kids and families are not involved intreatment planning. The staff who have no experience, education or training in treatment planning guide the process of treatment planning away from respect, dignity, and self determination. Social/family inclusion, and even basic human rights are not allowed. Kids have no right to see family members without CEDU control; no right to practice religion when new in program, no right to feel or think the way they really feel and think.

That is the literal truth. And, when LCSWs or Ph.Ds provide direction staff ignore them, scoff at them, violate the rights of the child and lie to the family. Lon knows it. Everyone who has been there knows it. I worked there. It is hell. I am still recovering.

Lon Woodberry is a former CEDU recruiter.

His wife Was the county prosecuter that allowed criminal escort at CEDU to go unprosecuted for drugging and rape.

What you don't know now, you will find out. You are committing a crime on your child. You will see. The tours of the school are set up so no one can complain and kids are forced to give positive tours which they are then rewarded for -the scham.

I would say good luck and have fun in hell. But it will not be you in hell - It will be your kid. Of course, you don't mind as long as you don't have to be inconvenienced by the behavior your neglect and stupidity has created.

Also, Thge place will go broke. I hope they take you with them.

I just checked the website ? she now has a psychology degree from California Coast College. It is an UNACCREDITED, MAIL ORDER SCHOOL. Her degree credits would not even be accepted by a junior college.

The big boss - Dr. Jim Powell got his Ph.D. at a non-accredited school! It was one of those mail-order schools ? distance learning before there was online college. He met Mel Wasserman at some Synanon thing where Jim was trying to sober up.

Mail order PhDs are not uncommon at CEDU In fact, they are very common at CEDU. Bill Valentine (in charge of parent services PhD) has a mail order Degtee that he braggs about on the CEDU website. I checked. The college doesn't offer the unacredited mail order PhDs anymore.

After meeting him, I couldn't understand how a PhD could be so ignorant - now I know.

CEDU's North Idaho clinical Director Rich Geiger had a mail order PhD in Divinity - he's gone now. Dr Geiger ran clinical services for years. He was in charge during the suicide hanging incident and The riot - go figure.
