Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / Re: Newton trying to skirt the law AGAIN
« on: November 02, 2009, 12:26:25 PM »
I would be willing to help in anyway that I can.  I would be happy to write a letter to the church detailing my experiences while I had my weekend stay at the retreat in question.  I have a copy of Newton's version of a drug assessment he did on me, as proof that he is indeed still playing that game.  I'm sure you all are familiar with the five levels.  Just tell me what to do.  I'm so grateful that there are people out there willing to take up this fight.  I think woof put it well,

But
lets not for get the LCD, the Least Common Denominator. We all went thru
Straight Inc. It is not in our favor to merely focus on our individual
experiance. We are a collective group of individuals, with a vast amount
of experiances, some bad, some terrible, some horible, some unspeakable,
some that go beyond all I have just listed and bless thier souls, that
have removed themselves from this sphere we call earth.

That line is; "It is not enough to fight
against something, it is more important that we fight for something."
That is we fight for the greater good, we fight for all!

Thinking along these lines, I think perhaps we can individually calm our
individual emotions. With a clear mind, with clear intent we can make
clear descions that serve the greater good. I, alone, by myself can not
fight and expect the desired outcome. You, alone, by yourself can not
fight and expect the desired results. None of us can fight, alone, by
ourself can not fight and expect the desired result.

Lets put our minds together as one. Yes, a tall order, a seemingly
impossible task, yet i think it essentual that we do so...if the desired
result is to be obtained. But how are we to put our minds together as
one, that is to unify? Well, it seems prudent that we begin with the
merely obvious, discontinue the things that seperate us. The idea of
"Me" and "THEM/OTHERS" must morph into "US" and or "WE".

This, that which we spoke about last night, is not my fight, just the
same it is not your fight, this is not Anne Booney's fight, this is not
Richard Bradbury's fight...This is "OUR" fight. We can not afford to
forget this vital piece of insight.

cheers

Kids Helping Kids / Re: Where did the other KHK board go?

Yeah, I haven't gotten a whole lot of happy feedback for this. I'm trying to bring the conversation together rather than have a whole lot of seperate convos about essentially the same things. It's gotten to the point already where it's difficult for anybody to find info that they may be actively looking for because you have to check a dozen different pages. I just can't think of another way to solve that problem. Can you?

No, and I see your point.  I know that KHK is very similar to Straight, I mean same lingo, five phases, etc etc etc, even the same fucking building BUT that is not what I was trying to say.  I guess I liked the seperate KHK board for connecting with other people who went through the same program, maybe know the same people, know the ghost stories about the building, etc.  I guess more like a community thing than a protest thing.  I mean all the protest stuff being on that board is good too, but I liked it for other reasons.  I guess that it would be tedious and impossible to try to organize and seperate forums like that though, so to the straight forum I go.

So there is nothing seperate for KHK except this one? Are those topics listed seperately, or do I need to go digging? I know that KHK and straight have a lot of similarities, but I liked being able to be specific to KHK, even if the numbers seem very small, especially compared to straight. This is probably why it was all merged (forums I mean), but KHK was its own thing. And I guess now really its own thing since it wasn't straight, and KHK doesn't really exsit anymore after the merge with PFC. Not sure where I was going with this....

HP456- What program did ye attend? I completely disagree with you. Kids Helping Kids is exactly the same thing as Straight Inc.
A few minor differences between them are simply "name changes". I do not mean to say just the names of the programs changing either, I mean names of rules changing but still sharing the same meanings....etc...
I visited straight Inc. on Gandy blvd. in St. Pete, when I was still involved with KHK and I can tell first hand as an eyewitness that both programs are identical!
thank you....hope this clears things up for you.
regards,
-DP

p.s. let me tell you another thing...they all still exist!!!!

To clarify what I meant about KHK being its own thing and being gone is that the atmosphere of the place has changed since the merger.  It's totally different even if it is still the same, if that makes any sense.  I just mean the EXACT place that I went through doesn't exist anymore.  That's nothing new of course, I'm just joining the ranks of all the straight people bc straight no longer exists, even if its 'offspring' do.  I guess since I graduated recently it seems very individual?  Even though its just the next step in the chain

i had the same thing said to me in 2004.  I guess the generation has passed it down.

I feel like I am a weak person for believing and buying into everything.  I even told other clients that their brains needed washing.  I am disappointed that I didn't hold out.  I wish that I had fought instead of blindly following what they said.  I feel like a fucking sell out.  How do I "deprogram"?

2003, i'm pretty sure i know who you are, actually because of that tombstone, i know that handwriting and birthday.  but i'm confused because i thought you were under a different profile name... check your messages.  at least you made it past your tombstone date, you were supposed to have died in may, lol sorry i have a twisted sense of humor.

The only things that newcomers were allowed to read were the aa book, na book, the bible (while i was there, there was this mini rebellion about being allowed to read the bible, some of the kids wanted to be allowed all religious books, the staff didn't know how to handle that one), and the signs in the building, which included the rights page.  I would actually read that over and over because it was one of the only things i was allowed to see.  i used to have to bring out reading up in group, along with rocking out, i'm sure straight had that one too.

No, the parents of the newcomers are not allowed to know where their kids are staying at night.  And for some of the kids in my group, that was for over a year.  As far as the parent approved kidnapping... that's my entire story to a T.

I might have been at the same home for more than two weeks at a time.  There was a period when the group was really small, and I was one of the only oldcomers, so i would go to the same household in cincinnati for extended periods because there were not that many host families.  All the money for housing wasn't going to the host homes so it seemed.  I heard several of the parents complaining of the financial burden that comes with taking home an extra four kids a night.  It's times like these that I wish I had worked on staff so I would know more of the details.  I don't want to rag on the actual parents though.  The host families were amazing and treated me like their own child, and after all, they were brainwashed too.

The rights were posted above the water fountain, I believe that there was another page.  I remember asking an oldcomer if I could file a complaint, and they said I could but it wouldn't matter anyway.  I don't think anyone in my group actually put through one, I remember wondering how any clients would have been able to get a hold of these people anyway, with no access to a phone or even snail mail.

I remember that rap!  We had to draw our tombstone, and we also had to write a fairly lengthy obituary separately.  Then they called on someone to talk about it, like if they hadn't come to KHK how their life would have been, how they were terrible to their family, what horrible people they were, always just putting yourself down, but KHK was the beacon of light! I had forgotten about those kinds of raps.

As far as the scrapbook goes, I only saw it for a few minutes, and at that point, I had no idea about straight, just that whenever that subject would come up the staff would say that we were not straight, or anything like it.  I believe she told me that a program parent had put it all together, it was full of newspaper clippings and stuff like that, I would assume that it included things about straight.   Pre KHK i had no idea that there were programs like this, so when straight was brought up and anyone asked questions about it, the subject was shut down.  I really didn't think anything of it.  Miller Newton was never brought up, however, he did visit the program once while I was there.  I had totally forgotten about that.  He wasn't there for very long, and I don't think that his presence was explained.  I think that I was the only one who knew about him because he put me in there, but the other clients had no idea who he was.

Only recently have I started looking into this stuff, and have heard things about straight.  I guess I'm in that phase that your talking about where you start to realize everything that happened was so f*cked up, and I guess I'm just trying to work through it? I don't know.  Most of my friends that went through there with me are still all about the program, and when it comes up they say it doesn't matter what it was like because it was the best thing that happened to us.  I disagree.  And so far, talking to other people does nothing because they don't understand, I mean, how can you explain "time out" to some who wasn't there?  So I feel kinda in limbo between the whole 7 stepper thing and 'the real world' for lack of better words.  I haven't talked to anyone about this in a while, hence the long posting.

The merger started when I was about to graduate, I don't believe they told us anything as clients, only that they were phasing some of the old stuff out, like beltlooping.  I don't remember what reason they gave us though.  Once I had, my friends on staff told me that it was because of finances, they were very hesitant to talk about it though, I was always swore to secrecy when we talked about it, so there probably is more to the story, but I doubt that peer staff would be in on it.  They gross 2 mil a year?? Staff was paid almost nothing, and I was always under the impression that money was scarce.  Where does it go?

As far as I know, most of the kids that are there are court ordered, and they changed the payment system, so you pay based on how much you make or something like that, so I think that they are accepting families who aren't wealthy (i don't know how to phrase that, but you know what i mean) so the group has a totally different feel.  I think that they are accepting medicare too.  Looking back, the parents seemed to be brainwashed too.  I mean they all loved us, and wanted the best for us, but they didn't understand.  They were just totally scared.  All of this is just what I've heard, so don't take it as factual.  To me it seems like it would be bad for them to lose the Milford building.  Not only is it completely locked down, but the location allows for families from Cincy, Columbus, Dayton, and Kentucky.

I remember when ya'll did the protest.  I had already graduated, but my staff friends told me a little bit about it, people standing outside with signs right?  Penny was pissed when they did that news segment on KHK.  I guess she was under the impression that it would be good publicity for KHK, and instead they made it look cultish.  I haven't read any of the articles that you are talking about, do you have links to any of them?  I'm no longer in Cincy, but just curious, what do you all do when you meet up?
