Led Zeppelin and Kid Rock. Thankfully my kids found my CD case that has been missing for awhile. I was going insane listening to the radio. Zeppelin and Kid were on the radio. So funny to hear the edited version of Kid Rock. Instead of you never met another motherfucker like me it repeats mother twice.

Howard Stern? Did you get satelite radio?

mostly the same as yesterday. would like to honorable mention No Sett Trippin by Juan Gotti. oh yeah, also a little bit of Hooverphonic and Portishead. hmmnn...remember that music-map thing Frod put up a week or two ago? I wonder if my music collection makes sense in that way. probably. it's not so far from rap to electronic whatever H & P are supposed to be, to some thrashing metal type stuff. Noise, all cool noise. does Beck fit in there somewhere?

also New Slang by the Shins.

I haven't heard Stern in a while.

today's music include:
Hooverphonic
Portishead
Beck
Maria Rita
Kevin Johansen
Elliot Smith
The Shins
Air

I like hearing what other people are listening to. Next time I see some Kid Rock I will give that a try.

What is everyone's favorite soundtrack?

Mine for a while has been Stealing Beauty.

Kid is playing Linkin Park, and wearing the cool red t-shirt. It fits me, I want it, he's pissed.

In a parking lot today I heard Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" Been a long time since that one!

Tried to introduce the yung'uns to the Velvet Underground. They aren't interested (yet).

Thought that is silenced is always rebellious. Majorities, of course, are often mistaken. This is why the silencing of minorities is necessarily dangerous. Criticism and dissent are the indispensable antidote to major delusions.

Aimee Mann - I'm With Stupid (on the way to and from work yesterday)

Some songs by the Stones - Sway, Loving Cup, and Happy (this last one I about 7 times over and over singing along b/c I played and sang it last night at a gig here in Baltimore) 100 Years Ago, and Heartbreaker..

Killdozer - Grandma Smith said a Curious Thing (this song happened to be on flipside of Stones tape)

The Pretenders - Last Of The Independents (this album is on the flipside of the Aimee Mann tape.

Emmylou Harris' cover of Steve Earle's Guitar Town.

In the old days of havin' a band I tried to sing it like that. Couldn't get it.

Then I heard Steve Earle's version. It woulda worked better If I'd tried to sing it like he did.

How do those sopranos do that?

Before leaving my house I started off with 5 songs off of an Oasis Unplugged CD under the recommendation of the person who burned it for me, and was not disappointed.

Then, on the drive in to work- after listening to a 75-year-old porn star being interviewed on the Howard Stern show, I started listening to Hardcore Devo Vol. 1. (http://http)

Gotta love songs like Space Girl Blues:

Space girls are as cold as ice
They'll kiss you once and kiss you twice
You'll shiver and shake and then turn blue
Next you got the space girl blues
I want your mechanism
Give me your mechanism
Space girls always smoke for taste
Swallow butts and leave no waste
Just to show that they don't care
They'll bite your face and burn the hair
Sado-maso is the rule
You want them they don't want you
The sun comes up the moon boo-hoos
Next you got the spacegirl blues
I need your mechanism
Destroy your mechanism
Destroy it!!

I'll be listening to the rest of that on the way back..

I like the Kinks..have you ever heard their album called Muswell Hillbillies? I like that one among other material of theirs.

I really need to check out the Dictators sometime.

I first became familiar with Rudimentary Peni when I was in str8..I found the Farce 7" at some record store. Then later on some kid with a mohawk who was a friend of this guy I hung out with post-str8 lent me Death Church and I never returned it, never having an opportunity to. I still have it.

I knew you had to be into the Residents..the eyeball was a clue, lol. I have a few of their albums and have enjoyed listening to a lot of their stuff over the years..

Yeah, the eyeball avatar is a reference to the Residents.

I've been reading "X Ray", a biography of Ray Davies, recently.

The Dictators are awesome....Sandy Pearlman, BOC's producer, produced them.

Haven't heard "Death Church" in a while, it's good, but I like "Cacaphony" better--H.P. Lovecraft references all through it.  I hear they've got a new one out soon.

I just turn it up for my own pleasure. Now I have to be careful though because it's a $250 fine for playing loud music and they have signs in my neighborhood with a # to call and report people!

Sometimes I have to play kid's CDs in the car like Rugrats Go Wild or Princess Diaries and it's turned up kinds loud and I get some strange looks.

I bought some new CDs last night. Some Stones, Ramones, Juvenile,Kanye West, and a CD for the Kids That's So Raven Soundtrack.

Fuckin' LOVE that song!

As far as "recovery" goes... I think there are different levels.  Yes, she's been in "recovery" - maybe she had a real problem, maybe not - but her "recovery" hasn't affected her music.  I would be more suspect of her "recovery" if she suddenly started turning out gospel music instead of stuff like "Bottle of Jesus"... yeah, I sound stuck on that song, but this one verse makes me laugh:

"I know my neighbors wish I'd die
I'm much too loud when I get high
I think I'll send around some pie

I'll spike that dish with a touch of herb
It'll numb their lips
and soothe their nerves
I'll build my kingdom on the curb...."

And that was written after her "recovery".

Maybe her recovery just entailed moderation?

Sara, wait, which song do you love, Lay Your Hands On Me, or Hiding Under Water?

So I was at my friend's house, i always borrow cds from him so i can rip them. I was asking for more metal, but anyway, he knows i have liked Beth Hart when I hear her, but we weren't even talking about her, but that is the cd i found in my bag when i was leaving (Screamin' for my Supper).

Last night if i had the money i would have gotten Stankonia and ATLiens by Outkast, maybe Beth Hart, maybe Mystikal, but instead i got another Beck cd, Mutations. It is true love between Beck and i.

What's keeping us apart isn't selfishness what's holding us together isn't love

I saw them open for the Pixies back in '92 or so.  Damn, but they kicked ass. They had Eric Drew Feldman from Beefheart's Magic Band on keyboards, and Tony Maimone (RIP) on guitar, as well as David Thomas on vox (of course).  I think they called the tour "Back to the Avant Garage" or something like that.  They were touring the "Worlds In Collision" album, which was not their finest work, by any means.
They played 'Final Solution', "Heart of Darkness', and 'Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo' as well as many others which I did not recognize at the time.  Check out "The Art of Walking" sometime.  Good stuff.

It was originally released in the late 70s, I think.  It was recorded from shows in Austin, TX and San Francisco.  The CD version has been split up into two separate discs, cleverly titled "Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2".  A couple of songs overlap, but they are different versions.  The liner notes are WAY cool, i.e. "What goes through a young mother's mind when she asks her 12 year old daughter, 'Susie, what's the name of that song you are listening to?' to which her daughter replies, 'Heroin' ......I think this is great rock and roll.  I think Alexander the Great, Jack the Ripper, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and other rock stars would agree with me...."

During my very few non-working awake hours I have continually played Nirvana and Kid Rock since yesterday. Wanted to listen to my Rollins CD that has the Black Flag songs on it. Can't find it. CDs are scattered in every room in the house and in the car.

I have the radio on in my office. It has a broken tape player. Aren't all tape players just cheap peices of shit that break? YES! I have all sorts of tapes from my teens and nothing to play them on. Every tape player in my house eats tapes. No record player anymore either to play my albums.

Yeah and I was thinking earlier that I wanted to listen to it...and got 'side-tracked' by these infectiously good tunes on amnesiac. This (http://http://www.greenplastic.com/lyrics/imightbewrong.php) one is fun to play along with on guitar. It's in a dropped-D tuning (just the bottom string) has a nice resonance..I'm using an acoustic.

Earlier at the skate rink they played Cheeseburger in Paradise by Jimmy Buffet (eew) and some other song of his (since when do elementary age kids want to listen to that)and then a few country songs I had never heard of until today.

Then on the way home my daughter's new CD she got for her b'day today, Ciara.

Earlier tonight I heard some quality classical music on a local station..one selection was a sonata for two flutes by Telemann...beautiful..

Now some groovy indie pop song that I'm hearing for the first time and have no idea what it is..lol..

Ok, so that was startin' to suck...::drummer:: ::rocker::

A classic! I got that one when it came out. They were touring on that and the Creamed Corn from the Socket of Davis EP when Reptile House opened for them back in '85. What a show they put on back then!

Sane, sane they're all insane
The fireman's blind, the conductors lame
A Cincinatti jacket and a sad luck dame
Hanging out the window with a bottle full of rain
Clap hands, Clap hands
Clap hands, Clap hands

Said roar, roar the thunder and the roar
Son of a bitch is never comin' back here no more
Moon in the window; a bird on the pole
Can always find a millionaire to shovel all the coal

Clap hands, Clap hands
Clap hands, Clap hands

Steam, steam a hundred bad dreams
Goin' up to Harlem with a pistol in his jeans
A fifty dollar bill inside in Palladin's hat
And nobody's sure where Mr. Knickerbocker's at

Repeat Second Verse

Shine, shine a Roosevelt dime
All the way to Baltimore and runnin' out of time
Salvation Army seemed to wind up in the hole
They all went to Heaven in the little row boat

Clap hands, Clap hands
Clap hands, Clap hands

--Tom Waits, "Clap Hands"

Opal's a great band, I like them better than Mazzy Star.  Have you ever listened to Rain Parade?  That's the guitarist's previous band.  Another cool Opal record is "Happy Nightmare Baby".  The Old 97s did a cover of 'Northern Line', probably because of the lyric "I'm singing of the wreck of the Old 97".  I actually saw the whistle of the Old 97 at the Tragedy In American History Museum in St. Augustine, Florida (now closed, very sad).  The museum had the car Jayne Mansfield died in, the hearse that Lee Harvey Oswald's body was in, the furniture from his boarding house room, the Bonny and Clyde car from the movie, and a few other neat exhibits.  I bought photographs of Bonnie Parker's and Clyde Barrow's tombstones from the gift shop.

Yeah, they are in the same vein as Mazzy Star; and I'd have to say that I like them better too. I haven't listened to Rain Parade. Happy Nightmare Baby opens with the song Rocket Machine, right? (that's on the other side of my tape) Here's a good Bonnie and Clyde page:

Opal is the same guitarist as Mazzy Star with a different vocalist (Kendra Smith-Opal, Hope Sandoval-Mazzy Star). I forget if he is Steven or David Roback, they were both in Rain Parade. Rain Parade was one of the 80s psychedelic resurgence ('Paisley Underground') bands from LA.  Others are Green On Red, Zebra Stripes, Gravedigger 5, The Bangles, The Three O'Clock (lamesters), etc.

Happy Nightmare Baby opens with Rocket Machine; I like Magick Power, She's A Diamond, and Happy Nightmare Baby, too.

Rain Parade did some good stuff, check out 'Emergency Third Rail Power Trips' or their live EP from Japan.  'Crashing Dream' is so-so.

Love their songs "No Easy Way Down" and "Prisoners".[ This Message was edited by: RTP2003 on 2005-03-04 10:14 ]

Ok, I never post here cause I usually don't have anything cool to say. Usual soundtrack around here is all SciFi all the time since Bill got a laptop and a wireless hub so he can work from his easy chair. Sometimes I get to take in some NPR and once in awhile they do something worthwhile. But I never remember the artists' names or anything.

But tonight? Shit, man, I can't believe what I'm hearing! Check out Whirled Beet (no, it's not a Barmitzvah band) http://myspace.com/whirledbeet (http://myspace.com/whirledbeet)

Note especially the charming and charismatic bass player.

The right of self-defense is the first law of nature . . and when the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.

Walk On (the song) by John Hiatt again.

I took my oldest daughter to see the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra play a concert in an auditorium on the campus. They played five pieces by a modern composer named Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, part of Symphony No. 5 by Jean Sibelius, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto- which was my personal fav of all of the selections played.

Baby was a black sheep. Baby was a whore.
Baby got big and baby get bigger.
Baby get something. Baby get more.
Baby, baby, baby was a rock-and-roll nigger.
Oh, look around you, all around you,
riding on a copper wave.
Do you like the world around you?
Are you ready to behave?

Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society, that's where I want to be.

(Lenny!)

Baby was a black sheep. Baby was a whore.
You know she got big. Well, she's gonna get bigger.
Baby got a hand; got a finger on the trigger.
Baby, baby, baby is a rock-and-roll nigger.

Outside of society, that's where I want to be.
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.

(those who have suffered, understand suffering,
and thereby extend their hand
the storm that brings harm
also makes fertile
blessed is the grass
and herb and the true thorn and light)

I was lost in a valley of pleasure.
I was lost in the infinite sea.
I was lost, and measure for measure,
love spewed from the heart of me.
I was lost, and the cost,
and the cost didn't matter to me.
I was lost, and the cost
was to be outside society.

Jimi Hendrix was a nigger.
Jesus Christ and Grandma, too.
Jackson Pollock was a nigger.
Nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger,
nigger, nigger, nigger.

Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society, if you're looking,
that's where you'll find me.
Outside of society, they're waitin' for me.
Outside of society. (Repeat)

This is one of my fav songs off ATLiens. Maybe these lyrics can explain it better.

Artist: OutKast
Album:  ATLiens
Song:   Jazzy Belle

Verse One: Andre

Yeah
Oh yes I love her like Egyptian, want a description, my royal  highness
So many plusses when I bust that there can?t be no minus
Went from yellin crickets and crows, bitches and hoes to queen thangs
Over the years I been up on my toes and yes I seen thangs
like Kilroy, chill boi because them folks might think you soft
talkin like that, man fuck them niggaz I?m goin off
and comin right back, like boomerangs when you throw em
With these old ghetto poems, Bankhead is better for em
When they can let they throw em, down from hitchikin and bitin niggaz
until the temple they call the body, now everybody got it
Had it, talked about it amongst they friends
Comin around my crew lookin Jazzy, wanna pretend
like you Ms. Goodie, Four-Shoes, even Bo knew, that you got caught
like accupuncture patients while our nation is a boat
Straight sinkin, I hate thinkin that these the future mommas
of our chillun, they fuckin a different nigga every time
they get the feelin to, I?m willin to go the extra kilo-meter
just to see my senorita get her pillow
on the side of my bed where no good ever stay
House and doctor was the games we used to play
but now it?s real Jazzy Belle...

Verse Two: Big Boi

See what if you was a playa real playa not no slouch
Havin the very best of life lots of steak and Perignon
Smokin an ounce of weed yeah every single day was personal FreakNik
Freakin these hoes in Polo clothes life as you conceived it
but your conception, deception, lookin into your watch I see
you weapon and it?s depressin, they?re diggin up in your thighs
leavin deposits keep your closets open not your boots and drawers
Hopin to get you sprung like bell-bottoms, steadily callin me Antwan
cause you thinkin that you my lady bitch don?t play me cause you?re chanky
I wanted to hit that ass but me and the Goodie we got danky
So thank thee, you runnin that Southerplayalistic game
You was the only one to blame, a nigga don?t even know yo? name
it?s a shame, you crackin em up and fuckin a nigga like Tupac up
I?m leavin these foes to be the flowers and wake don?t get me see
I gotta be feedin my daughter, teach her to be that Natural Woman
Cause you?ll be Waiting to Exhale while you other hoes be
Dumb and Dumber, yeah you know what I?m sayin?

Verse Three: Andre, Big Boi

One two, yessss, ummkay, check this out right here now
See me ain?t no good, in the black on black ?Llac no star
Windows are tinted so that no one knows who us are
Talk bad about her nigga guaranteed to snap like bra
Strap stickin together like grandma and grandpa-pa
In this dog eat dog world, kitty cats be scratchin on my
furry coat to curl, up with me and my bowl of kibbles and bits
I want to earl, cause most of the girls that we was likin
in high school, now they dykein *laughin*

Havin no mercy for the disrespect-ful ones, some
be hangin around the crew lookin for funds, dumb
deaf and fine, they be, askin me all about mine
How she doin how she be, I know she?s sippin that wine
behind my back they skwak like vultures
Off and On like Trendz of Cultures baby
hey he, fakin it like these sculptured, nails
But they can go to hell and lay with Lucifer
Cause they burnin anyway, Big Boi user and abuser

Outkast Stankonia since fka inspired me to dig it out the ol' vault. I especially like the song "I'll call before I come".

Then later throughout the entire day of driving it was Wyclef Jean Carnival. Besides the popular songs on the CD I highly recommend Guantanamera and Year of the Dragon. I'm a big Fugees fan and love all the member's stuff out there.

fka what CD's are you looking for????? I'd welcome some myself from people and would be willing to burn some stuff and mail it. Maybe people can post a list of music they are looking for and whoever is willing to do it and has it can do it.

"Guantanamera"
(feat. Lauryn Hill)

Hola! Soy Celia Cruz
(Hi! I am Celia Cruz)
Y estoy aqui con Wyclef, celebrando Carnival; Azucar!!)
(And I'm here with Wyclef celebrating Carnival; Azucar!!)
[singing] Guantanamera
[Wyclef] We out here in Miami just shining
[singing] Guajila, Guantanamera
[Wyclef] Worldwide
[singing] Guan-tana-mera
[Wyclef] Bout to bring it to you in stereo
[singing] Guajila voy, de na meda
Yo soy un hombre sincero
[Wyclef] That was then, this is now
Welcome to the Carnival, the arrival... c'mon!
[singing] De donde crecen las palmas

[Wyclef Jean]
Spanish Harlem!
Oahh-eee-ohh!
Boogie Down Bronx!
Oahh-eee-ohh!
Manhattan!
Oahh-eee-ohh!
Back to Staten!
Oahh-eee-ohh!

[Wyclef sings, then raps]
Guantanamera
Hey yo I'm standing at the bar with a, Cuban cigar
Guajila, Guantanamera
Hey, yo, I think she's eyeing me from afar
Guan-tana-mera...
Guajila Guan-tana-mera...

[Verse One: Wyclef Jean]

Yo, I wrote this in Haiti, overlooking Cuba
I asked her what's her name, she said, 'Guantanamera'
Remind me of an old latin song, my uncle used to play
On his old forty-five when he used to be alive
She went from a young girl, to a grown woman
Like a Virgin, so she sex with no average mahn
Peep the figure, move like a caterpillar
Fly like a butterfly, let your soul feel her glide
Pac Woman better yet Space Invader
If your name was Chun-Li, we'd be playin Street Fighter
Penny for your thoughts, a nickel for your kiss
A dime if you tell me that you love me

[Chorus:]

Guantanamera
Hey yo, I'm standin at the bar with a, Cuban cigar
Guajila, Guantanamera
Yo, I think she's eyeing me from afar
Guan-tana-mera...
Guajila Guan-tana-mera...

[singing in Spanish, with Wyclef responses]
Soy una mujer, sincera
(I am a sincere woman)
Do you speak English?
De donde crecen las palmas
(From where the palm tree grows)
Can I buy you a drink?
Soy una mujer, sincera
(I am a sincere woman)
Uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh
De donde creeeeeeecen las palmas
(From where the palm tree grows)
You killin me
Y antes de morir, yo quiero
(And before I die, I want to)
..
cantar mis versos del alma
(sing the verses in my heart)
Te quiero mama, te quiero!!

Guantanamera
Aiyyo I'm standing at the bar with a, Cuban cigar
Guajila, Guantanamera
Hey yo John Forte, she's eyeing me from far
Guan-tana-mera...
Guajila Guan-tana-mera

[Verse Two: Lauryn Hill]

Yo, she was a rose in Spanish Harlem, mamacita beg your pardon
Make stakes at a faster rate then she fornicates
Pure traits of genius, Goddess of Black Venus
Crab niggaz angry cause they can't get between us
to no sele-xion, smooth complex-ion
The lexicon of Lexington, parents came from Cuba
Part Mexican, pure sweet, dimes fell to her feet
She like Movado, and shook her hips like Delgado
And broke niggaz down from the Grounds to Apollo
and then some, she took her act sent it to dim sum
And waited patiently while the businessmen come
Call late on purpose, got even politicians nervous
And made plans to infiltrate the street secret service
This gentle flower, fertility was her power
Sweet persona, Venus Flytrap primadonna
Que sera que sera she turned dinero to dinera

[Wyclef responds to singing again]
Guantanamera
Hey yo I'm standing at the bar with a, Cuban cigar
Guajila Guantanamera
Hey yo... I think she's eyein me from afar
Guan-tana-mera...
Guajila Guan-tana-mera...

WYCLEF JEAN LYRICS

"Year Of The Dragon"
(feat. Lauryn Hill)

[Intro:]
[sirens] Yo yes yes yo. Lock your door. Die die die [x6]

[Wyclef:]
I remember comin' from Hati growin' up in Brooklyn
On Flat Bush got my first sneakers tooken
Learn the game quick so I got my first device
Mom move to Jersey so we could get a better life
But little did she know a ghetto is a ghetto
Good time found myself like Jimmy Walker sayin' "Cello"

[Lauryn:]
Yellow cheese bus gettin' beatings if I cuss
Lay away another day in stripped Lees and letegrays
But the lyrical bomber momma tried to stop
Paranoid cause this boy around my neighborhood got shot
Name plate hair straight metal braces on my teeth
Fat laces on my feet when crack first hits the streets

[Wyclef:]
I use to push up on a girl Salt 'N' Peppa Push It Push It
D's in school cause the music was my focus
Jokes in class but when I learned I didn't pass
I knew it was my ass with my mothers leather lash
Belt buckle said Nelly Nel similar to Melle Mel
Hits the third rail Beat Street made Gazzels sells

[Lauryn:]
As the tale gets poetic watch the streets turn magnetic
Towanna Balley's rape is alleged
Hang out in hooky places watch streets corners turn to oasis
Young men aspire to be Scarfaces

[Hook:]
In the year of the dragon lots of men disappear
Quiet as it's kept they won't be around next year

[Wyclef talking:]
Yo yo watch out for the black van. Yo yo (last days last days) planes
exploding yo close your door yo nobody's safe. Halloween. October 31. Yo
close your
door yo kids are disappearing. Yo

[Wyclef:]
Late at night the light was bright on the ave
I went to pick up cash from my cousin little Kev
He told me Joe had a dream in jail he got steamed
His wife became a fiend fuckin' little Raheim

Aerosmith would have been so much cooler if Steven Tyler had died of a drug overdose in the 70s like he was supposed to.  Now their music sucks, and he goes to treatment centers to preach godsquad shite to the people in them. I can't stand rehab rock.  90% of the time, getting off of drugs is the death knell for a band's creativity.  Not always, but frequently.  Aeroshit sucks these days, and I was really grossed out by hearing Steven Tyler sing the national anthem during the Red Sox playoff game last season.  What a dork.  Jagger's got so much more class, and he still gets high.  Joe Perry sucks shit, too.  Aerosmith can't even write their own songs anymore, they use outside writers.  That said, I really liked their blues cover album.  Oh well.

I heard an interview with Keith and he had a "been there, done that" attitude towards dope, but admitted to "a little taste" now and then.

I used to be really into Aerosmith, and still like them up to about "Rocks", plus the blues covers album they did, and Joe Perry has written some great stuff, but they're just cranking out shit these days, and selling more records than ever.  Go figure.

I used to work for Aerosmith's road manager from the "good old days", he had some good dirt on them.  He died a year or so ago, I guess the coke caught up with him.

Now that's a blast from the past.....I love the Gun Club, particularly "She's Like Heroin to Me", "Sex Beat", and "For the Love of Ivy". I read a biography of Jeffrey Lee Pierce and was pleased to find that he had an incredible disdain for AA.   Truly one of the underrated greats of American music.

There you stand

Correct. I would tell you which site but not able to find it right now.
The Peel Session cd available to everyone has:
10.15 Saturday night
Boys don't cry
Fire in Cairo
Killing an Arab

I don't recall any of those songs being on this cd. Most of the songs on our cd is from the album Seventeen Seconds from 80-81.

On the floating, shipless, oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang, "Sail to me, sail to me,
Let me enfold you,
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not,
come back tomorrow: O my heart,
O my heart shies from the sorrow
I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me,
Let me enfold you,
Here I am, Here I am,
Waiting to hold you

Speak in secret alphabets,
I light another cigarette,
Learn to forget.

I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religion than it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.

Pass the catch-up.

The rest of that live album by CVB which is really good. Sure, I'd be glad to send you a copy of that, RTP...and thnx for the heads up Pietra - I doubt that I'll be attending it at this point, but thnx anyway...

(on SoundsEclectic) Steve Earle - "Rich Man's War" and "The Devil's Right Hand"

(on SNL) Keen played and I liked the fact that they were just piano, drums and vox. Then on an old rerun of the show (from the early 80's) that followed the regular one The Kinks played their 80's hit "Do It Again" which was really good..

Today:

U2 - All That you Can't Leave Behind
The Pixies - Doolittle
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Echo & The Bunnymen - Heaven Up Here
Radiohead - Amnesiac

Various stuff on internet radio and yes I can't help my obssessive compulsive behavior of listening to Fugazi again.

Last night technically this moring I watched the movie Ray. I was never much into his music and now I know why. It's because I never got to hear the broad spectrum of his musical styles. The only one's I was familar with were the one's that came on cheesy radio stations I dreaded as a kid. I can say now after hearing all those songs in the movie I am hooked and plan to purchase the soundtrack.

Was Keifer on the show? If not,why was he rippin on him?

No, he wasn't.

Long story, so here goes: A little background first- Howard had goofed on him before about publically declaring when asked what his fav word was that it was the Latin word "gravitas."

So anyway, one of Stern's envoys went out and interviewed him somewhere recently. The envoy uttered that word (gravitas) as he went by Keifer and K. stopped him, grabbing his arm asking him if spoke Latin. ((LOL)) Keifer said that he liked Howard but that Howard is always "crappin' on him." And yeah...Howard admitted that he had goofed on him before about the pretentiousness of saying that...

Last night after the kids were asleep, I took my Mesa Boogie over to this guy's place to do some troubleshooting- a friend and ex-bandmate of Andreas'. We listened to Richard Thompson while he searched all over his apt. for a 3 amp fuse. Breck is more of a guitar repair guy, but he helped me figure out what was up with it and taught me a lot about guitar amplifiers in general. And now I know where to take my Mexican  Tele to have it tweaked.

I kinda remember hearing that album 20 years ago (at around the time it came out) and liking it.

Not long ago, I saw the LP in a used record store and almost bought it...is it a good one?

Yeah, I like it. The cassette copy I have has them covering "Six Pack" by Black Flag.  The singer says something like "This is the first time this next song has been played with real feeling--that other band that does it, they don't even know what beer tastes like...)

Saccharine Trust's guitarist also had a pretty cool jazzish-instumental band called Universal Congress Of.

Damn, Krystene!  You're cooler than I thought!  Negative Approach is a great band.  My favorite song by them is Can't Tell No One.  A band called Jack-o-Fire did a really cool, swampy blues sounding cover of it on a 7" single called Clothes Make the Man and it's also on a CD called The Destruction of Squaresville.  Fucking cool!

Today I listened to:

Sick of It All-Live (gotta love Maladjusted (I can "relate")

Radiohead - where I end and you begin, the gloaming, a punch up wedding, myxomatosis, scatterbrain, a wolf at the door

Urge Overkill--Since I don't know the album title, I'll list the songs. It was released in 1990. I think it's called "Americruiser" or "U.R.G.E." - ticket to L.A., blow chopper, 76 ball, empire builder, faroutski, viceroyce, out on the airstrip...there are more songs on this album that I opted not to listen to because it was too nice to stay inside

Some album (other than I'm with Stupid) by Amy Mann...just a few songs from it.

CVB--some of my fav songs from New Roman Times (might makes right, militia song, new roman times, I am talking to this flower)

Shane MacGowan and the Popes--a lot of my fav songs from The Snake

Yestersday- My voice getting louder while contesting a stupid and false accusation. Me telling my wife that I only have "rage issues" with people (her) who won't leave me the fuck alone about something that I didn't even do.  The sound of birds, etc as I spent as much time outside of the house as possible for the rest of the day. My youngest playing with a girl that she had just met at the playground that I had taken her to. The sound of the bell in the nearby churchyard. This morning- My oldest daughter telling me that she and mom think I should have my brain checked because I yell a lot.

Howard Stern, The Jerky Boys

"Out on the Airstrip" by Urge Overkill has been 'on rotation' in my head for the past two days.

It was a comp CD, I think, 'cause it had "Hong Kong Garden", "Trust In Me", "Passenger" and "Peepshow" on it.   It belonged to this girl who was at a cookout/booze and weed fest in some friend's yard, across from a park in a cool neighborhood downtown. I may have recruited some more Cult members there (we'll see if they're worthy).

The Who-Quadrophenia (again....can't get enough of this one)

Every year is the same
And I feel it again,
I'm a loser - no chance to win.
Leaves start falling,
Come down is calling,
Loneliness starts sinking in.

But I'm one.
I am one.
And I can see
That this is me,
And I will be,
You'll all see
I'm the one.

Where do you get
Those blue blue jeans?
Faded patched secret so tight.
Where do you get
That walk oh so lean?

All just right.

hey girl, i have heard and liked the fugees & Lauryn Hill (i don't remember hearing any Wyclef Jean), i just have never gotten any, except i downloaded "Lost Ones" by Hill, that's a good one.

today i worked out to System of a Down, then my favorite Outkast tracks, including Gangsta Shit and Xplosion.

i need some more music, too. i get sick of them same stuff over and over. i have been thinking about getting the Mystikal album, the one with Bumpin Me Up Against the Wall, er i guess it might be called Bouncin' Back. this would be great stuff to work out to. but i am just a wee bit concerned that he is going to be a wee bit too offensive... i know, i'll get it, then i'll post here if it's too offensive.  :em:

oh yeah, can't blame you for hmm'ing a bit, nothing really stellar except Orishas. Also like SOAD. Much of the rest is becoming yawnsville. I liked the new Jack Johnson cd a lot until i played it into oblivion. I have always liked (most of) the Stealing Beauty soundtrack, this might be sacrilege, but Axiom Funk did a great version of Jimi Hendrix's "If 6 Was 9."

oh yeah, p.s., somebody nice sent me some Chameleons, I just have not gotten to download it yet! but thank you again, i am looking forward to it![ This Message was edited by: fka on 2005-04-18 20:23 ]

Not hmmm'ing in a bad way though. Just stuff I don't own. I'm looking for new stuff to get into. I'll make my list in the next month I hope. I have a lot, but it's all unorganized at the moment.

I have read good reviews of System of a Down so I am looking forward to hearing them.

Wyclef is way funky w/out all the foul put downs of women like Outcast. I think you will love  his stuff.

I want to dig and search through our moderators and rtp's collections. They have some good shit

Sounded real enough to me...

Echo & the Bunnymen - the game, over you, bedbugs and ballyhoo, all in your mind

The ppl on the Howard Stern show trying to guess which of the three women in the studio was Jeff the Drunk's sister. Turned out to be #3. Funny, but not enough to make me laugh that much.

It's for real. There is this one kid that goes to school w/ my kids and every year for the talent show he plays the drums. I think this kid is going to be famous one day. Seriously.

The talent shows are funny because my kids and the other kids take it real seriously. Now they are only allowed to do one performance because the thing would go on for hours because the kids wanted to do solo acts and group acts. Anyways, last year my daughter started crying and getting upset when they made this rule. The teacher was like I had to tell her to calm down because this is not Star Search! lol.

My daughter also has a friend that can sing. Lord can this girl sing. One year she sang Mary J. Blige's I'm going down and the girl hit every note perfectly! That is a very hard song to sing because of all the high notes. Another famous one in the works I believe.

Ever get a song in your head that just won't go away?  Sure you do.  This one has been haunting me for days now (of course it doesn't help that I've listened to a tape with it every couple of days lately)

The Who--The Naked Eye
------------------------
Take a little dope
And walk out in the air
The stars are all connected to the brain.
Find me a woman and lay down on the ground,
Her pleasure comes falling down like rain,
Get myself a car, I feel power as I fly,
Oh now I'm really in control,
It all looks fine to the naked eye,
But it don't really happen that way at all,
Don't happen that way at all.

You sign your own name and I sign mine,
They're both the same but we still get separate rooms,
You can cover up your guts but when you cover up your nuts,
You're admitting that there must be something wrong,
Press any button and milk and honey flows,
The world begins behind your neighbor's wall,
It all looks fine to the naked eye,
But it don't really happen that way at all,
Nah nah no, don't happen that way at all.

You hold the gun and I hold the wound,
And we stand looking in each other's eyes,
Both think we know what's right,
Both know we know what's wrong,
We tell ourselves so many many many lies,
We're not pawns in any game, we're not tools of bigger men,
There's only one who can really move us all,
It all looks fine to the naked eye,
But it don't really happen that way at all.

A bunch of local bands at the rock show.  Good food, lotsa adult bevs, and plenty of TBPITW.

Iggy Pop--"Repo Man" (in between bands)

Modest Mouse--"Antarctica" and "Good News for People Who Like Bad News"

Roach Motel--live DVD at Bobby Hate's apt.  It's pretty good, but I'm fucking sick of seeing it.  Every time anybody goes to his apt, he's just GOTTA show it to ya......good thing he keeps his place stocked with more liquor than some bars I've been to.....

Fleetwood Mac--bootleg live show from 1969.  This is NOT the Fleetwood Mac that sold millions of records in the 70s, but an earlier incarnation that was more of a rockin' blues band.  The highlights were "Rattlesnake Shake", "Black Magic Woman" (later made popular by Santana, but Peter Green of FM wrotte it) and "Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)" which was later covered to excellent effect by metalfruits Judas Priest (who also covered Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" the way it was meant to be played).

Guns and Roses--Appetite for Destruction

Bound--Mirth (local band, I wrote a review of their CD, they thanked me in the liner notes, I'm the last one they mentioned, after weed, Old Milwaukee, and Meher Baba.  Nice to be in such good company).  Going to the CD release party tonight.  Really ethereal, melodic, droning psychedelia, a little more rockin' with their new bass player, or so I've been told.  I slagged the CD in my review (mainly 'cause the production wasn't my cup of Kool-aid) but they love it when I rant.  Live, they're awesome (or can be) and they usually have a mindblowing visual montage going on behind them as they perform.  Good stuff.

Hey Frod,
Please fall in love with my Mark Burgess cd. It sounded great sitting poolside. It has to be heard either while laying out, chilling at the park or at night blasting with many candles.
I have mister brightside(Killers) playing right now. This song reminds me of you.

It's a little cool (and dark) here for poolside or I'd fill up the kiddie pool, and lay in it under the blossoming tree in our front yard (wish I could recall the genus) and listen to it while sipping vodka and cranberry juice....maybe I could try the park thing....I'm not as into candles as I used to be...why does Mr. Brightside (not familiar with it) remind you of me? Do tell...

I forgot to put in up there that I heard a song by Canned Heat tonight while grocery shopping for various liquids...it was On The Road Again (not to be confused w/ song by Willie Nelson)....very cool to hear...made me kinda nostalgic for early 20's..

Well it's good to hear that he isn't like Hank v2.0. I guess that the talent skips generations with them.

Today: My 4 yr old daughter singing that Hillary Duff song "this is what dreams are made of" with simple accompaniment by me on guitar. Then she wanted a guitar to play so I went and got her one and she strummed it open very well while I did some picking in Em.

The White Stripes--White Blood Cells
(God damn, this album is good! Forget anything negative that I said about it and/or them. It left me wanting to hear more...)

Yeah, he's almost as cool as his grandpa (time will tell...) and already WAY cooler than his dad.  He plays a countryt set, then his punk/hard rock stuff at his shows, and he plays in Superjoint Ritual with Phil Anselmo from Pantera.  See Linchpin for details.

He gave me drawing he made. It was of a guy with a huge erection, skewering 7 babies through their ears all in a row. He sat backstage making them one after the other. I had it on my fridge for a long time but I eventually lost it.

There is so much in the bible against which every insinct of my being rebels, so much so that I regret the necessity which has compelled me to read it through from beginning to end. I do not think that the knowledge I have gained of its history and sources compensates me for the unpleasant details it has forced upon my attention.

Back in 1981 or 82, I saw Danzig start to get tough with an all-ages club owner when they (The Misfits) were told that there was to be no show after they had just arrived in Baltimore coming from N.J... The band that I was in at the time was supposed to open for them that night. Too bad they couldn't play. Pretty funny to watch Glen in action though - he had put on this hockey fore-arm protector and was trying to break into the locked door to kick the guy's ass...

Damn what an old scenster you are. I was like 9 then. I did have the good fortune of seeing Danzig play in 90 or 91 at the Latin Quarter in Detroit. I can't even remember the other 2 bands that opened.

Before the show him and the band were eating at Church's chicken and me and my friend were all grins when we saw him there. We didn't approach him though. You know we had to appear as if we were "hard" and not act like groupies.

right now i got Norah Jones on, wasn't ever too much into her grammy album but sometimes it's just so calm.

earlier i was listening to the disappointing soundtrack to 8 Mile

heh heh, i also sampled some lil bow wow at the used disc store. wish i had gotten that instead!

sampled some ludacris but i couldn't find that one song that was on mtv a few years back, with the rooster, and he's eatin breakfast with his little brother or whatever? anyone know the one i mean?

i got Shawn Mullins' Souls Core -- i haven't heard that in a few years.

Tribe Called Quest, starting with Vibes and Stuff. that album deserves its status as an old classic. the other song i really like on that album (The Low End Theory) is Jazz (we've got).

i ended up not getting the Mystikal cd i was so into (Tarantula) because it just didn't impress me enough... but it did make me laugh (Pussy Crook)

Counting Crows is kind of new to me...some real nice stuff i thought, one or two beautiful songs.

Check out Astral Weeks by Van Morrison - Lester Bangs wrote about it in 1979 (http://http://www.harbour.sfu.ca/~hayward/van/reviews/astral.html)

Strange Days, Waiting For The Sun, Morrison Hotel & L.A. Woman are all good Doors albums - http://www.thedoors.com/discography/ (http://www.thedoors.com/discography/)

Whatever Hendrix album it is that has the song "The Power of Soul" on it is one that I would recommend & I don't think it's one of his better known releases.

Band of Gypsies.  Electic Ladyland is the one to pick if you're stranded on a desert island and can only pick one, though.  "Machine Gun" on Band of Gypsies is pretty fucking RAWKin', too.

Doors--Strange Days  No contest, it's the best one.  Steer clear of The Soft Parade.

Van Morrison--Live At the Grand Opera House, Belfast.  Much better than his other live one, It's Too Late to Stop Now.  Moondance is a classic, too.
