I must say with deep regret that I will not be coming to Korea in 2007.
I have run out of time and its just not possible to make it this time.
Going to USA in about 3 weeks,no time left for Korea. :(

I'm flying in and getting out of Bangkok asap anyway. Can you cross over to Laos from Chang Mai?

IM REALLY COMING to InCheon in July.
I just did that Laos trip this week.
Chiang Khong Thailand/Huay Xai Laos border.
Heres what happened:
While I was in ChiangMai I got run over and injured by a TukTuk

http://www.into-asia.com/bangkok/tuktuk/

In Chiang Mai,stay at the 230Bhat "New Mitrapap" hotel (very near the US Consulate),they have discounts now and its a proper hotel.
You can also stay at "Ban Mae Tongmourn" Guesthouse, also an EXCELLENT 250Bhat value and wonderful manager.

Near the New Mitrapap Hotel is a convienient bus stop (wave down the bus because they like to skip the bus stops)with modern city bus #11,#13,#2 going DIRECTLY to the Train and Bus Stations for 15Bhat.
If you use a red pick up truck (normal Chiang Mai transport)you should NEVER pay more than 15Bhat,sometimes 20Bhat,but they will try to cheat you,and you must explain to them your destination.
NEVER NEVER NEVER use a Tuk Tuk!!!!!!

I rode the 169Bhat air-con bus
(buy ticket at the bus station yourself THE DAY BEFORE,and take the 11:45AM bus)
from ChiangMai to ChiangRai.It takes about 3 1/2 hours.

Go to "The Garden" guesthouse in ChiangRai,and pay 100Bhat for room.

From ChiangRai to Chiang Khong there is a 52Bhat 2 1/2 bus ride to Chiang Khong, the border crossing to Laos.

(From ChiangRai to Chiang Saen there is a 32Bhat 1 1/2 hour bus to Chiang Saen.LAST BUS DEPARTS ABOUT 6PM.In Chiang Saen go to the JS Guesthouse and pay 150Bhat.From Chiang Saen,go to the Mekong River and there are (probably green)pick up trucks that will take you 30 minutes to Hard Bai for 30 Bhat,DONT DEPART CHIANG SAEN AFTER 2PM OR YOU WILL MISS YOUR CONNECTION IN HARD BAI TO CHIANG KHONG,then in Hard Bai you change to another (probably red) pick up truck,30 minutes to ChiangKhong for 30 Bhat, and it will drop you in front of the Laos border if you tell the driver.)

You should stay in Chiang Khong, but going to Chiang Saen one night is good and the truck to Hard Bai/Chiang Khong is very scenic.

From Chiang Khong you pay 20Bhat person/10Bhat bag to ride small boat across the river to Huay Xai.

You can spend Thailand money in Laos, but you can change money also. You really should not change more than about $75,if you need more change it later.

1USD= about 31ThaiBhat
20ThaiBhat=6,000LaoKip
1USD=about 9,700LaoKip

Laos visa costs 1500Bhat Thailand money on the border.

Stamp your passport, walk up the hill and (turn right)hail a TukTuk,50Bhat enough I think, and tell him to take you to
THE BUS STATION,about 2 1/2 miles down the road.
In front of the Bus Station is a Gas Station with friendly man manager, the Gas Station has a simple guesthouse 100Bhat,and the manager can direct you to a very good cheap restaurant on a road behind the Bus Station (DONT eat at the retsaurant directly behind the Gas Station, the one with the barking dog,it sucks).

Its BEST if you take a Slow Boat from Huay Xai to Pak Beng, sleep one night 200Bhat in Pak Beng, then another Slow Boat to Luang Prabang the next day. This is cheap, but DONT buy the tickets until AFTER you arrive in Huay Xai Laos.

If you want to take a BUS out of Huay Xai,its best to ride a bus to Luang Namtha, spend the night, then make your connection the NEXT day.Stay at the Namtha Hotel, next to the Chinese Cake Bread Shop(you can eat here too),and eat your meals at The Panda restaurant is best.

There is a 9AM bus 250Bhat 4 hours from Huay Xai direct to Luang Namtha,so get up early and buy your bus ticket, because people gather early and start taking the seats.
There IS a number on your ticket,so you should point this out to the bus driver and attendent.
This is a senic bus ride on a NEW road.

If you encounter Aka Women in Luang Namtha, and you will,DONT buy any opium from them. These women are wearing Ethnic Minoriety clothing and silver studded hats and will try to sell handicrafts to you (stuffed with opium and "ganja"),and DONT pay them more than $5 for a bag of weed.$5 is A LOT OF MONEY.This "ganja" looks like seed and stem crap, but it will mess you up good.

Once you are in Luang Namtha, you can ride a bus directly to China,or anywhere in Laos.
I suggest you take a SMALL bus to Udom Xai,then change to another small bus on to Luang Prabang.
DONT try to go all the way to Vientiane from Luang Namtha OR Huay Xai,its TOO far.

From Luang Prabang there is a 10:30PM CHINESE Sleeping Bus (100Yuan CHINESE MONEY,or use Laos money) to Vientianne.
This is your BEST choice, because you can hop off in Vang Viang at about 5AM,or continue on to Vientianne arriving about 7AM.
To catch this bus you need to go to a big Chinese restaurant very near the Bus Station.Buy the ticket from the bus driver.

From Vientianne, take a DIRECT BUS to NongKhai Thailand for a train to Bangkok,or take a direct bus from Vientianne to Udon Thani Thailand for a direct bus to Chiang Mai.

You can do all this in reverse if you want.

Plan to be in Thailand myself in September. Any suggestions?

Dont try to buy weed unless you enjoy Thailand prison.
Dont hire any Thai prostitutes unless you like AIDS.
BangKok sucks, get out of there as fast as you can.
BangKok Air Con sleeping train directly to ChiangMai is the think to do.ChiangMai is cool.Stay a few days, then head up to ChiangRai,a smaller more traditional town.
In between there are small places worth checking out,but its best to wait until you arrive, then ask the other travelers.
Theres a cool place called "Pai" (pronounced "Bye") thats a couple hours ride from ChiangMai.Its on a mountain and its a quite pleasent place to stay a couple of bong hits but dont buy any herion!!!
From ChiangRai you should head out in the morning on a 1 1?2 hour bus ride to Chiang Saen,on the Mekong River.Thats where I am now.Theres really nothing to do here, but you can just stroll around a couple of hours, visit the "Customs Museum" or the "Hall of Opium" (my friend's father is a Customs Officer there and just yesterday they caught a Chinese cargo boat with 2 Kilos of herion. Those guys are dead for sure, because China is always blaming other countries for transiting China with heroin, but really China produces lots of herion.
Every time I try to score weed in China they say,"Sorry, but Ive got some herion".
From Shiang Saen its another 1 hour bus ride to Chiang Kong, another Mekong town, then another 2 hours back to ChiangRai.
If you want to do any more than this in Thailand then you need more time and planning.
If you like this kind of travel its better to do it in China, but if you spend 1 week or 10 days in Thailand,go to the places I mentioned.
Even hanging in ChaingMai is enough, with a couple of day trips to the nearby mountain villages or Pai.
Remember,BangKok SUCKS and has NOTHING to offer, not even a proper "city center".
South Thailand is expensive.
Some people like to visit the islands on the West coast, near the Thai/Maylay border, but thats a bit involved and you will just get a sunburn.

Everything is to damn expensive in Japan for my tastes. To bad really I'd love to live and work there. No way I'll bother on a esl teacher's salary.

Near Fukuoka there is a city named "Saga City". Very nice place.     I was surprised at how cheap everything was there.Even in the supermarket  and restaurants everything was very cheap. You may look in to that place.
The ferry from Pusan to Hakata/Fukuoka is very near Saga City.

Keep me posted. More than likely I'll just come down to Incheon and meet you thereif you decide to show up. That way you can hop the bus directly to your next destination. I also have a lady friend down that way I've been meaning to pay a visit. Might as well make a whole night of it for myself.

Heres where it gets confusing.

There are:

#1 Ferry Terminal (Lots of ferry) and far from DongInCheon Station.

#2 Ferry Terminal (3 ferry) and very near DongInCheon Station.

Most likely,I will arrive at #2 Ferry Terminal, then walk to DongInCheon Station, then catch bus (or subway) to InCheon Bus Terminal and on to Pusan directly,or subway to Seoul.

If I arrive at #1 Ferry Terminal, then I catch a bus outside the ferry terminal going directly to InCheon Bus Terminal, but theres also a subway station at InCheon Bus Terminal.

Anyway, both options can be reached by subway, without using any taxi.

DongInCheon Subway Station area is interesting enough, lots of underground shopping, fast food,mini-mart,Korean street market.

I will have a solid plan after June 07.
Dont make any plans, but expect it about June 21 or 22.

I really like my Laos hotel, but Ive got to see some people in Pusan and Shimonoseki.
Free place to sleep in Japan is hard to turn down.

Depending on what day and time you arrive I can prolly meet you in Incheon. I've been meaning to get down their anyway to kick around for a few hours.

Its a toss up between Laos or Korea.

In my $6 Laos hotel room I can have buds delivered for $5 while I get a new visa.

In my $15 Korea hotel room I can listen to Russian prostitutes being beat and eat cup-o-noodles while I get a new visa.

The up side is if I go to Korea, some Korean noodle smuggler will pay for my ferry ticket, and I also get to visit my friend in Japan for free.

Normally I arrive InCheon Ferry Port, then city bus directly to InCheon Long Distance Bus Terminal, then bus direct to Pusan.

I can enter the InCheon subway at Dong InCheon station then go to Seoul.

In Seoul, what is your nearest Subway Station?

No bloody clue. Sorry.

I do know that you need a uni degree to be any sort of teacher in Korea. Japan is the same. Old China doesn't give a shit as long as you have pale skin and don't look Indonesian.

Well, while your there,if you find any info,or meet any people who know about the subject, please post the info here.

Ive been looking for something to do in Asia, and I have a couple of Asian friends that I have encouraged to look in to this as a possible job opportunity.

In countries like China/Korea/Japan,do the deaf use exactly the same Sign Languang as Americans?
Is it truly "International Sign Language"?
I know of one kind where the alphabet (A,B,C,D,E...) is signed with the hand, but Im interested about the other type of sign language where both hands and arms are used to form words and sentences.

How long does it take the average American to learn sign language well enough to get a job teaching Sign Language in China/Korea/Japan?

Do you think this is a good paying job for an American in China/Korea/Japan?

In my travels,I have often seen groups of deaf Chinese/Korean/Japanese people using Sign Language in public, but Im not sure if is the same Sign Language used in America.
