Title: Once upon a time...
Post by: Antigen on August 12, 2005, 02:25:00 PM
I had a brother. Actually, I had three of them. But the older two were pretty much grown and not home very much from as far back as I can remember. It was mostly me, my sister and youngest brother in the house together most of the time. Oh, did we torment each other! We did, it's true. But in equal measure, we were good to each other. Most especially, not one of us would tolerate for an instant any threat or affront from an outsider toward one of our kin.

Then the world changed. Fidelity shifted from our real family to an imaginary one. I hunkered down, waiting for the storm to pass. It never did. So I made my own family. And the kids do just as we used to do. Often, they torment each other. Just as often, they're kind and good to each other. And woe be to any fool who would make the mistake of trying to come between them.

It's bitter sweet to see my own children enjoying what was taken from me.

I don't believe in God. My god is patriotism. Teach a man to be a good citizen and you have solved the problem of life.
