I went to Amity for a year back in 92-93. It was a horrible place and really that is all there is to it. The people that worked there are a bunch of wack jobs and should not be allowed to counsel anybody!

LMAO! Yeah, if you were there in later years I imagine it was a miserable place. I was there in the beginning, I have good memories, but I also loved it and graduated, so go figure. Any past students, please feel free to email me, I'd love to hear from you.

I went to Amity School as well in 93 for only a few months, got kicked out actually! Turns out their was a "riot" where the students over took the villa and it was shut down :smile:

I was at Amity school when it for 8 months. I was there when it closed. Wild to hear other people talk about it. I don't even talk about it with my wife...too painful.

i am sarah fontana there in the last 5 months the school was in existence in 1994.

i was at amity for 2 years 1991-1993, graduated and completed the advanced school. weird place but was better than where i was before and helped me get it together. there are alot of old teachers/counselors here in northern cal. haven't heard a word about any old students. always wonder how mary rose from ireland is doing. email me if you'd like [email protected]

War stories? Truth/Brother's Keeper? Did they actually use these terms at Amity or did you learn them from later programs? Who ran Amity? Weird...

hey. i went to amity around '93. damn you sarah fontana, i think i might know you. you cracked me up one time on some trip talking about herman hesse.
i'm pretty sure i know you too armen.
weirdly, my boyfriend went to cedu in idaho and we've randomly run into lots of people he knows from there. he's the only person i can really talk to about it. no one else really understands how fugged up it was.
also, i still talk to kelly gray. we both work in SF.

I was on a major Herman Hesse trip at the time. Are you talking about the trip to the Dolomites. That was kick ass. I remember Kelly Gray very well. We almost ended up at the same boarding school in Montana after leaving Amity. Joanna, did you have short brown hair at the time? I'm trying to remember all the faces, after all this time it's kind of hard. I still remember Paige, Suzannah, Beth, Suzy, Lucia, and a couple of others. It was a crazy time.

You Amity guys need to read "Oh The Glory of It All" by Sean Wilsey. It's his biography and he went to Cascade and Amity. He was very positive about Amity. He ran from Cascade and was sent to Amity after getting in legal trouble.
It's a good read- definitely NOT pro-program.

I was left there by my parents with no warning and ended up running after their cab driving away. The place was horrible. It was child labor, abuse and I swear my food was drugged...not to mention the brainwashing. I ran away with 2 other girls, slept under a bridge and begged a sweet Italian man for enough money to call the US. My parents were appalled that I had not gotten any of their letters, and my calls were cut short. They got on the next plane to Arezzo. About an hour after making that call, we turned around in the street to find 8+ more girls running towards us after having left as well. That was the end of the school..thank GOD. We all were arrested in Italy because...duh, Amity takes your passport so you are a PRISONER! Worst experience of my life.
