The Troubled Teen Industry / Request for reserch help
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:09:02 PM »
Ok, well, one of my posts on ST was deleted for lack of evidence, so if some one could russle up a news paper article, or some form of proof that escorts have indeed been accused of abuse or some form of wong doing to their charge. I would greatly appreshate it.

2
Ok, well its been a while since I offered anything of any substance on this forum so I believe its time for alittle academic exercise.

If there is one thing that gets my blood boiling its when christians develop programs in the industry and sling around God's name like he has something to do with the harm and pain a child faces on a regular basis in places like these. I hate it when they claim to be christian and doing God's work, because if there is one thing they are not doing its Gods work.

Because of my schooling and some of my studies I have a unique abilty to combat those that claim to be doing the work of God. So, what follows is a Biblical commentary on Magnolia Christian Center.

If you will orient your self to this web page please.

http://http://magnoliachristiancenter.net/Respect.htm

You can take a look at their camp quicky, a 30 to 60 day boot camp like program meant for instant obidence.

Quote
Magnolia Christian Center offers a new type of camp designed for the teenage boy who needs immediate intervention by trained instructors to teach discipline, respect, and pride in young men who are headed for trouble. The focuses on structure, discipline, and exercise to reach troubled teens who might not respond to other programs.

Ok, now, some would ask, so what, sounds all good and bible like, dicipline, respect, pride. But the fact of the mater is not what it teaches, but how it tries to teach it. If you consider the idea of a camp like this, with a 30 to 60 day time table, it is a quick fix issue. This quick fix is not what God looks for. God does not look for obidence. God looks for a change in heart, and God looks for love. You cannot have discipline, respect, or pride if there is not underlying principle support. Principles can only be developed in the long term and not with one hour of core value trainning a day. Obidence does not fix humanity, love does, this program seems to be lacking.

Moving on to next section

http://magnoliachristiancenter.net/Structure.htm

Please observe the picture on this section of the young man looking alittle severe. I dont know if this is part of the disapline camp, but chritianity is hardly militant, and I quiet firmly disagree with orginizations that try to mix the two.
Moving down the page I direct your attention to the fact youth attend devotional groups. Forcing any youth to attend a church service, devotional group, or whatever, is very much against some basic christian principles. The Christian God is a God of choice, either you chose to do what he wishes you to, or you don't, God does not force indviduals to complete mundain tasks under the new covenant. We are useless to God if we are joyless and are forced to attend biblical services.

Next Page

http://magnoliachristiancenter.net/Faith.htm

More of the same about being forced to go to a church service, but I would like to point out that they are given by a Brother, a person with no professional theological education, which as a teacher, can open up the doors to herecy and false teaching. If the school is teaching large groups of students there should be some one with formal theological trainning.

In this section we see a major warning sign for any program, I draw your attention to number two.
Quote
2. Exhibit a strong feeling of pride in the program and in his beliefs.

The three words... "In the program" seem alittle uncomfortable to me.

and number nine

9. Displays an instant and willing response to orders.

This part worries me theologically because scripture tells us to "Render to Ceaser what is Ceaser's" Which basicly means follow the rules of an earthly athority, but there is a limit... "Render to God what is God's" (its all one verse by the way, for those that dont know) and that God is no longer a God of rules and regulations, but one of relationships. Great biblical men did not have Instant and willing responce to orders, and still managed to work for God, infact, many Great scriptual men had athority issues. (Abraham, Moses, David)

That covers anything of the site worth much, thank you. I hope you have found this interesting. Comments? Questions?

Oh, I almost forgot the most important part! Spanking is unethical if not done by parents, you cant pass that responsiblity off. Under the New covenant spanking is not made unethical but its not really supported either. Under the Abrahamic Covenant one could kill a unrulely child, I dont think Magnolia Christian Center would like to be accused of following that biblical principle.

These are all my opinions.

3 Pregnant Teens Attack Utah Group Home Director With Frying Pan, Flee in Stolen Van

Friday , January 19, 2007

AMERICAN FORK, Utah ? Three pregnant teens living in a group home whacked the director in the head with a frying pan, tied her up and fled in a minivan, police said.

The girls, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old, are from California, Texas and Illinois. Police believe they left the state after restraining the director with power cords Tuesday and tying up another pregnant teen.

The director "was able to break free and then she went up and untied the 17-year-old female and then they contacted the police," American Fork police Sgt. Shauna Greening said.

New Hope, a privately owned maternity home in Utah County, is a place for struggling pregnant teens, 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Girls attend school in the area and are taught prenatal care, child birth, adoption and parenting skills. A call to a phone number listed for New Hope went unanswered Thursday.

But the owner, Spencer Moody, tearfully told a Salt Lake City TV station that he would close the rural home. He said about two dozen girls had given birth after living at New Hope.

"We've had a lot of parents call and thank us for giving their girls back," Moody told KTVX-TV.

Greening would not release the teens' hometowns or the name of the director, whose purse, checkbook, credit cards, cell phone, video camera and 2005 Dodge Caravan were stolen.

"It's been there about three years, and we've never had any problems," Greening said.

The director said "she never had any indication that anything like this was going to happen. They were all sitting around doing homework before the attack occurred," the sergeant said.

The teens were sent to the home by their parents to get them away from problems with drugs or friends, Greening said. Parents have been contacted about the incident.

Detectives were checking for any use of the director's credit cards.

New Hope is among a handful of maternity homes licensed by the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, spokeswoman Carol Sisco said.

END OF NEWS

Ok, so, what do we think, did this person diserve it? Or were these some crazy harmonal pregnate women?

Open Free for All / Riots and the other side of the story.
« on: October 09, 2006, 06:04:09 PM »
After watching a bunch of videos of riots I think its important to explore the perception of a riot from the view of a police officer.

Let us consider this, your a police officer, you have been on duty for the past 12 hours because riots are expected in your major city. When the riots finally do break out, your sent into the streets with your fellow officers with no weapons, no bullets, all you have is a batton, a sheild, and maybe some peper spray. You of course have your protective gear and all that as well. Now you have a 20 something college drop out screaming in your face saying how your perpetuating the man, and all you want to do is go home and sleep and be with your wife and children. These people, the majority of whom dont live in your city, are ripping appart the place where you live, and work. Their actions completely invalidate the job you have been doing for years because you cant provide the protection the citizens diserve. Then some one sets something or another on fire, and you get hit in the face plate with a rock thrown by some one who is protesting the WTO when they have never had a job in their life. The tear gas is deployed and your face burns because the department has not been given enough money to buy desent gas masks. Shots have been heard and some one out in that crowd has a gun, you just hope you dont get shot so you can go home. The riot still is not dispersing so your ordered in, people screaming incorently infront of you, calling you names and saying you did things you never even thought about doing. You lash out with your batton at some one who dident follow the first second and third warnings, and screamed a curse word at you, but god, all you want to do is go home.

Riots are inexcusable behavior used to try and force government to follow a policy the mob wishes to dictate. They wish the policy to be followed weither or not they have all the information and weither or not its posible to complete, all they know is they want it, or they are burning something.

The police use rather humain methods to put down riots, I think people can start complaining then the army starts breaking up riots and people are fired on at a regular basis.

The Troubled Teen Industry / I used to hate people. but now...
« on: July 13, 2006, 02:12:50 AM »
You guys, well most of you anyway, know me. You know my earlly posts, you know the hate I tossed around and the vitrol I spewed at people that supported programs and this that and the other. My promises to do this that and the other or whatever. You could tell, I really used to hate these people. Well, after about 3 years, of thinking, growing, examing, I can really say I dont hate these people any more, at all, not one bit.

I pity them.

Yes I pity them now. I mean honestly. Who wants that job? Who wants to be acused of abusing children for a job. Weither they are abusing people or not, its got to get tireing after a while. They have rabid dogs after them in the forms of so many support groups its mind numbing, and only the fractured nature of the groups keeps them from being over run. I'm sure the people that run the programs get up in the morning, kiss their wives, and pray to god they dont get any hate mail. What kind of life is that?
They have to deal with crazy kids all day, I mean honestly, if you were not crazy before hand, you will be after getting tossed away from your family into a place like that. Who in the world would want do that. I think even Ginger, in all her benifience, would crack after a while.
Come on, were call the ones involved in the deaths of students muderers, but how do you think they feel. "Oh holy shit! The kid died on me!" Do you think they are really that sick as to kill a kid in cold blood? Sure its mansalughter, but manslaughter is not murder.
Think about that for a second. Thats really got to suck! Your getting charged with manslaughter, your facing a lawsuit, and you lost your job. I pity that! Thats not something to hate. Thats something to shake your head at and keep walking.

Some people would say that im going soft, and that I got hit hard resently so im toneing down my retoric, but honestly guys, would you rather your parents be mad at you, or be disapointed. Its kind of like that. Its better to have a enemy you can be prideful infront of, and debate, instead of one that just pities you, and wants to see you change what you do, because not only does it suck for those that you do it to, but it also sucks for you.

But there are people I still hate, well... reject maybe... well... I dont know if thats a strong enough word either. I will figgure it out as I go along. But the people I still (strong word meaning dislike to the point of rage) are those that run programs in the name of God using the name of God. As a Christian I really cant stand for that and it gets my goat.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Boy Scout Summer Camp
« on: July 09, 2006, 11:26:00 PM »
Just came back from summer camp. It was my first year as an adult. I got to work with the kids for the first time as an Assistant Scoutmaster. It really really streched my paitence. As a SPL you could give push-ups, or you could wack the scouts upside the head well because your considered a youth to. Apprently you can't do that as an adult. Anyway, most of the kids knew me and knew who I was, and listened to me acordingly, some did not. One latched on to my leg and followed me around for most of the week. I got to teach young people swimming merit badge as well as rank advancement. We worked in the wood yard and I swear to god I thought I was going to die in there giving some of these kids tools. Anyway there was some other stuff we did to, but im to lazy to type it so ask and I will answer. The entire point of this was just. I got to see the impact that scouting had on youth, not only boys but girls to. (Venture Scouts) And how it helped them become better people, no damned TBS, but a honest to god Scout camp.

Excuse the misspelling its late and im tired.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Where is the outrage?
« on: June 25, 2006, 10:54:00 PM »
I resently had a talk with a friend, and we discussed a friend that got in trouble. It was something minor, and the parents grounded the person in question. No big deal, but then my friend said. "Well locking them up issent the answer." And I said. "ah well you would be suprised how many people think locking kids up is the way to go, there is a muilt billion dollar industry alowing it." and she said. "Well that sucks." And went on with the conversation. We continued to talk and the conversation went on as normal. This talk just undertscored with me the fact that no one cares. Face it. No one cares about these kids. No one cares what happens to them. No one cares who dies, and no one cares about rights, humanity, whatever... God I hate people.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Theme song for the anti-industry
« on: April 21, 2006, 04:59:00 PM »
have you ever considered a theme song for the anti-industry movement? Post up a song you think would be good... Like Trapt - Headstrong... my personal favorite

Rebels of the Sacred Heart - By Flogging Molly

"Rebels Of The Sacred Heart"

Now I`m aimin' for heaven
But probably wind up down in hell
Where upon this alter I will hang my guilt ridden head
But it`s time I`ll take before I begin
Three sheets to the wind, Three sheets to the wind
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Terrified of the open road
Yeah, where it leads ya never know
But rest assured he`ll be on you back
Yeah, the Holy Ghost through his tounges in black
As th band dog howls and the young girl cries
The blessed virgin in her proud dad`s eye
The albatross hangin' round your neck
Is the cross you bare for your sins he bleeds
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Genuflect all you refugees who fled the land
Now on guilt you kneel
And say a prayer for those left behind
From beyond the pale to the Northern sky
So you saved your shillins and your last six pence
Cause in God`s name they built a barbed wire fence
Be glad you sailed for a better day
But don`t forget there`ll be hell to pay
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Reserrection no protection all things life must be
Ah no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Now bless me father for I have sinned
But it`s the same old story again and again and again
Ah well, such is the bread of an everyday life
From mornin' to noon to this shadowless-night
Rebels are we, though heavy our hearts shall always be
Ah, no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart
I said no ball or chain no prison shall keep
We`re the rebels of the sacred heart

Fla. Students Protest Boot Camp Death

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  ? A group of college students took over the foyer of Gov. Jeb Bush's office Wednesday in a protest calling for arrests in the boot camp beating of a 14-year-old boy who later died.

A special prosecutor is investigating the Jan. 6 death of Martin Lee Anderson, who was beaten, kicked and dragged by guards in a scuffle captured on videotape at a juvenile detention boot camp run by the sheriff of Bay County.

Bush spokeswoman Alia Faraj met briefly with the group of about 30 students at Bush's office and told them the governor was out of town until later in the day. They declined a meeting with Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings, saying they wanted to see Bush, she said.

Faraj said the students were courteous and were welcome to stay until the office closed.

The students, from Florida State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee Community College, also want Bush to apologize to the boy's family for the way the investigation into his death had been handled, and they want the medical examiner who handled the first autopsy removed.

That medical examiner initially determined the boy died from complications of sickle cell trait.

A nationally known pathologist, Dr. Michael Baden, observed a second autopsy and said Anderson likely was suffocated during the confrontation.

A lawyer for the Anderson family, Benjamin Crump, said he had talked to the students but did not organize the protest.

"The students are doing what's right," he said. "The family is appreciative."

The Troubled Teen Industry / 3 Traditional Theories of Punishment
« on: April 19, 2006, 09:43:00 AM »
This is some materials from my current ethics class applyed to my logic with a short oppinon and view.

Punishment is morally justified if and only if

Rehabilitative: It changes the person being punished.

       Compatible with Betham's Utilitarianism.

Deterrence: It prevents others from doing bad acts.

        Compatible with Mill's Utilitarianism.

Retributive: It is deserved.

Compatible with Kantian Ethics. Also know as (Lex Talionis), completely rejected by Utilitarianism.

The following cannot be mixed in any way. One cannot be morally correct because of intentions. The results are what maters, which is the point of view held by Utilitanianism. If one wishes to rehabilitate some one, they must be rehabilitated at the end or its not morally right. If its a deterrence then people must be deterred from action, or its not morally correct.
This logic of course means that the Industry is one of two things. A hypocrite because they say they are rehabilitating and instead giving retrebution.  On the other hand they could just be morally wrong, because the objective is rehabilitative while the accutal even is retributive and a great deterance. Under Kantian ethics the Industry is morally wrong because it does not respect the persons intrinsic value, or his autonomy. Kantian ethics boils down to the person and his autonomy. Rehabilitative is completetly rejected because it does not respect the human being. It says. "I am deciding whats right and wrong, and I am imposing that on you, and making you the person I want to be." While Kantian ethics says. "That is morally wrong because he has the choice to decide his actions." But under Kantian ethics, the beating like we saw in Florida would be morally acceptable, if the youth diserved it. The question is, does the youth diserve it? I personally say no, yet I dont have the athority to make that decision. Your thoughts on the matter?

Child 'jail' restraint criticised

The inquiry was launched after the death of Gareth Myatt, 15
An unacceptable level of pain is being used to restrain children in secure custody, a report says.
The independent investigation into the treatment of children in prison, led by Lord Carlile, found pain was used to enforce compliance.

That was "unacceptable" and may be illegal, the report said.

The investigation was set up following the death of a 15-year-old boy in a privately-run secure unit while he was being restrained by three adult staff.

The inquiry, commissioned by the Howard League for Penal Reform, looked into the use of restraint techniques and strip searching.

Varying figures

It found that physical force was used against youngsters 15,512 times during a 21-month period in England and Wales, with injuries to both staff and children not uncommon.

Liberal Democrat Lord Carlile said his team of advisors "shared my shock at some of the practices we witnessed".

"We found that some of the treatment children in custody experience would in another setting be considered abusive and could trigger a child protection investigation."

Staff have permission to deliberately hurt children

Youth death sparked review
Send us your comments

Figures varied between institutions - in which there are in total 2,800 children and young people held in England and Wales, including 200 girls.

At one secure training centre, Medway in Kent, 1,818 injuries to children as a result of restraint from January 2004 to June 2005 were reported.

At Rainsbrook near Rugby there were 118, Hassockfield in County Durham reported 177 and Oakhill in Milton Keynes listed 48 from its opening in September 2004 to August 2005.

A sample of five out of 24 local authority secure children's homes in England and Wales revealed 73 injuries to children from January 2004 to August 2005.

Young offenders institutions did not keep central records of how many children had been injured in restraint incidents.

The inquiry found some evidence that staff would "bait" children into situations that would lead to them being restrained for the adult's "own gratification".

The level of pain used may be illegal, the report says

The report accepts that many of the 10 to 17-year-olds held in young offender institutions, secure training centres and local authority secure children's homes have had chaotic and abusive childhoods and lack clear boundaries to their behaviour.

But it said that unnecessarily painful restraint techniques were used to deal with dissent in some institutions.

Handcuffs were used in the four privately-run secure training centres, something the inquiry says should stop.

And the need for a strip search should be based on evidence, something the report says would cut the number of strip searches by half.

The Youth Justice Board chairman Professor Rod Morgan said staff were encouraged to use non-physical methods to deal with difficult behaviour.

"We want to move to a situation where the staff have sufficient confidence and are sufficiently well-trained that they don't have to rely on physical restraint to the degree that in some instances they are currently doing," he said.

Mental health

However, he said there was an underlying problem about a lack of spaces for young offenders who had mental health problems - and should be in healthcare rather than custodial care.

Although children have behaved badly and some of them committed terrible crimes... they're still children

Prison Reform Trust

He called for a three-part inter-departmental review - to look at children dealt with in the criminal courts and end up in custody; those dealt with in the family courts and end up in care; and those dealt with under the mental health act and end up in psychiatric care.

Children's Rights Alliance for England national co-ordinator Carolyne Willow, a member of Lord Carlile's advisory panel, said: "We are not talking here about children being hurt in the rough and tumble of restraint.

"Staff have permission to deliberately hurt children."

"As a former child protection social worker, I am stunned that this is allowed to happen."

The inquiry was told that one in five restraints of children resulted in injury.

'They're still children'

Director of the Prison Reform Trust Juliette Lyon says children are being failed by the prison system and they invariably end up re-offending.

Cases where children needed to be restrained should be the "rarest of rare events", she told BBC News.

"When you look at the number of times that physical restraints were used in the course of less than a year - thousands of times, on some quite young children - you realise it's being used as a matter of course when it's a disciplinary issue.

"Although children have behaved badly and some of them committed terrible crimes, although that is a minority, they're still children," she added.

Lord Carlile's report concludes that police should be ready to prosecute in cases where children appear to have been assaulted.

The inquiry was launched after the death of Gareth Myatt, 15, from Stoke-on-Trent, in April 2004.

He died after being restrained by three members of staff four days into his sentence at privately-run Rainsbrook secure training centre, near Rugby.

Story on that kid that died at that boot camp.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,185172,00.html

PANAMA CITY, Fla. ? A teenager who was beaten by guards in a state-run boot camp for juvenile delinquents died from internal bleeding caused by a blood disorder, not from injuries he may have suffered in the beating, a medical examiner reported Thursday.

Martin Lee Anderson suffered from sickle cell trait, which caused his red blood cells to change shape and produce "a whole cascade of events that led to bleeding and hemorrhaging," said Bay County Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Siebert.

"It was a natural death," he said.

Medical forms filed at the boot camp did not indicate that the youth or his family were aware of the disorder, which affects about one of every eight black people, Siebert said. The sickle cell disorder would not show up in routine blood tests, he said.

Anderson entered the camp Jan. 5 because of an arrest for theft, and complained of breathing difficulties and collapsed during exercises that were part of the entry process. He died the next day at a Pensacola hospital.

The Bay County sheriff's office, which runs the camp, said Anderson became uncooperative and was restrained. The boy's mother contends he was murdered by guards who beat him to death.

Siebert said there were some bruises and abrasions on the boy's body, but he attributed those to attempts to resuscitate the youth.

Also Thursday, the Justice Department announced it would investigate the case, along with the FBI. Federal officials planned to focus on whether camp guards violated Anderson's rights through use of excessive force or "indifference to serious medical need," U.S. Attorney Gregory R. Miller said.

On Friday, law enforcement officials planned to make public a videotape that allegedly shows guards beating Anderson. News organizations have filed a lawsuit seeking the video.

Of course im sure the beating did not help the situation. Its amazing how people can get out of the consiquences of their actions. If you beat a person to death its not your fault, the beating only worsened what sickness the boy already had... God I hate humanity.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Depressed
« on: October 16, 2005, 03:30:00 PM »
Well, maybe frustrated is the right word, because today I come to you with a wide range of issues that should make me very frustrated and very upset. I find that those problems do not make me frustrated, or angry, or even put me up in a huff. These issues make me feel ever so slightly annoyed, and depressed.

I don't understand the world really. There are good people in the world. I know this. I have seen them. FBI officers, police officers, firemen, soldiers, medics, teachers, people of some sort of faith all over the world. These are good people. I know there are evil people to, but I know, from even my short experience that there are more good people than there are bad people. I really don't understand then why evil still exists in this world. If there are more good people than bad people then shouldn?t the good destroy the evil? Is this not why we have police officers, soldiers, public servants? It hurts to think that evil exists in this world and these people seem to be doing as much as they can, or sometimes maybe not a lot, but still they are working on it, yet still it exists.

People are dieing in far of countries because some warlord disagrees with them. People are getting blown up. Children are dieing every where for stupid reasons, like easily curable sickness, and not enough food. It makes me very sad to see things like this. It used to frustrate me, it really did. I used to want to change the world, I used to want to fix every wrong, stop every evil person, make every one happy, see smiles on children?s faces, and help others. But now, thanks to resent events. I just get sad. I see authority figures that I respect, simply because of their position, and my belief that they are good people, just brush it off. Sure, they say they care, and I know they have saved people. I know they have served people. I know them to be good people, yet they don?t seem to want to stop it. they seem to be beaten down by the world. I don?t see flame in their eyes, I don?t see passion. I see good men that just want to get along and protect their own. I see men and women that are heroes, but not on the worlds stage, where I think they are needed the most.

It makes me sad to see such men just living and doing their jobs, loving their families and such. While all this is good in its self I don?t understand when they have the power to do something, they don?t do something. I have no power and I am passionate about doing something, yet when I have the power I am afraid I will turn into them. I'm afraid I will be a hero to a few, and not the world as I wish now. It really saddens me. I think I'm losing the flame, because with age seems to come experience, with experience wisdom, and sometimes wisdom says not to fight, just go with the flow; and that makes me sad.

This will be my last post for a little while because of some events in my life. I wish I could save every one, I wish I could help every one, but as I get older I see that I really cant, and that depresses me to no end. I suppose you could call me a struggling idealist. See you guys around. You can still get a hold of me through IM if you need me.
