It is finally here. The Fix My Kid fundraiser is live!

Please help us spread the word and finish this film. The pitch from the directors starts after the trailer. This is for all those
we have lost, all those who have been hurt, and all those who currently suffer inside these programs. You will not be forgotten.

Quoting the "Fix my kids movie" link above:

"The report on the hearing also states that "many programs and many people around the country [are] committed to helping improve the lives of young people and who do good work every day, but it is difficult for parents to tell the good programs from the bad. And that difference can be lethal."

I have always been interested in why no one has ever engaged in an open discussion here on fornits on this topic.  Its seems to be taboo for some reason.  The rest of the world understands and realizes that there are good and bad programs but, for the most part, no one is willing to discuss helping the young people and their parents choose the best path possible or help them differentiate between the good programs and the bad ones.  The lack of discussion seems to lean towards allowing the status quo to continue.

...

The lack of discussion

Pick a reason or more than one reason

1.  Survivors have joined facebook groups for programs they were sent to
2.  Survivors have moved on to bigger and better things
3.  Survivors have health problems
4.  Survivors are busy with work
5.  Survivors get burnt out saying the same thing over and over again
6.  Survivors  have families which trump feeding into long winded discussions with you

Ursus left way before the new admins took over, and that was because this place was a sewer filled with hate, les and verbal violence. None-ya, you were part of that, so don't blame them for your actions. They had no part in that

The pot calling the kettle black.   :roflmao:

What are you smoking?  The admins ( Antigen: Ginger, psy, The Fornits, Ursus, webdiva: Kelly) of this website before it became registered to webdiva did not cut the mustard. They let Whooter derail threads consistently although psy contends "Whooter was a catalyst for discussion."  Whooter / DJ should have been permanently banned.   When this site was registered to Ginger: Ginger was weak, psy was out to lunch and Kelly rarely made an appearance when !@#$ hit the fan.  Ursus should have stepped down considering the weak team members.

The new rules have created a "rat out your fellow peer" system.  Ginger may know where Ursus is.

It does have more to do with the economy than anything else. Since 2008 more programs have closed than in the last 20 years. I would love to say this had to do with voices from sites like this one but this just wouldn't be true. None of the programs listed by Oscar were even close to the "hellholes" as Matt stated.
This economy has had a residual effect on corporation and their supporting companies. Take Apple and all the companies that support Apple or Ford etc....plus the housing market being crushed as it was and is. Your house lost money, your retirement account lost money and so on. This is where the money came from to pay for the enrollments.
Parents aren't reading this site or any other site any more than they were 10 years ago.
This is what is sad.
Watch! When the economy gears back up more programs will come back on line. Our job will be to advocate for better oversight.

I think it would more appropriate for Danny to write, "My job will be to advocate for better oversight."  On January 1, 2009 Richard Mullinax wrote a Public Acknowledgment and Apology to Straight, Inc. Survivors.  My views of Danny would change if he wrote a public letter of apology to Elan survivors.  Second, I have priorities that are more important than advocating.

Since this post which is off topic was left here I will respond.
This is for all the people who think they know my experience in Élan. I don't consider myself staff or anything else, outside of one person whose credibility I question strenuously, no one has come forward to corroborate or by themselves acknowledge that I was abusive while at Élan. You know why, because I never was. If you choose to believe his version of events this is on you, not me.
End of story.
No I will not be writing an apology. I am happy for your fellow survivor from Straight and the people his letter affected.
Richards experience is not mine, not even close.
Please do not write about what you think I should be doing. It is clear that you do not have the correct information concerning "my" experiences.
I felt your post to be a typical condescending tirade.
Thanks

I went to a CEDU school not straight.

Danny Bennison ( DannyB II )   Assistant Director Reported by survivor who attended program in 1976.  Bennison reportedly claims to have held the title of Assistant Director on the online message board known as fornits.

If any of the information is false on http://www.heal-online.org, why haven't you filed a lawsuit against Angela Smith or taken the steps to get your information removed?

As I understand, you've admitted in the past that this description is more or less an accurate description of what your daughter went through.  I should note that most of what he wrote is more or less a copy of Propheets from CEDU (also very similar to what I went through myself which was also a Propheet based workshop).  Similarly, the "dyads" and the giver-taker exercise among others are also part of LifeSpring.  Here is a more complete description of a giver-taken exercise taken from a pro-LifeSpring website (I recommend reading the entire thing with the fact in mind that this survivor of sexual abuse views what she went through as a positive experience, and no doubt wasted untold thousands on further workshops).   My question to you is whether, like the parent seminar, you feel these things are over the line, and whether you would be willing to tolerate and participate in such activities as a participant?

It was accurate as I remember, but her description was a bit softer than that and they (her friends and herself) recalled being elated after it was over and stayed up for hours talking about the events of the day.  Sort of like climbing to the top of a mountain.  Totally exhausted, a little beat up, but feeling good about yourself.  I think the problem is two fold. Not all kids are cut out for Therapeutic Boarding schools and not all schools are alike.  So the stories and outcomes can differ greatly.

As I mentioned before this is not something that I would want to go through myself and would probably opt out if I had the option to do so.  But I dont consider it abusive.

...

If the child says anything negative about the program there would be consequences.  Whooter what are you trying to sell?   :roflmao:

Brett Carey was my former discovery family head and ran my children's propheet.  They knew how to pick em at Academy at Swift River!

10
Caroline Wolf was a former CEDU student and knew all the tricks of the trade.  She had a unique way of Indicting children in raps.  Caroline would scream at girls for "selling their ass" and / or "running the streets of LA."  She was married to Randy Eide (former CEDU student) when I was at RMA.  Randy had an inappropriate relationship  with a female student and Randy & Caroline divorced shortly thereafter.

11
I haven't bought The Discarded Ones by James Tipper.  AFAIK he went to CEDU in CA from 79 - 81 and I would probably buy the book if  the author was sent to RMA or was sent to CEDU during my time ( When I was sent to RMA) .

12
Caroline the Wolf  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga0nQpXa61w was my Voyageur family head and I will not be reading The Discarded Ones.

Propheets- have no idea what model or style of program thought .Wasserman? Est ? curious what was it.

http://wiki.fornits.com/index.php/Propheets_%28CEDU%29

Propheets was the name for the Large Group Awareness Training seminars used at CEDU. A propheet was a 24 hour workshop. It was named after Khalil Ghbiran's "The Prophet". Passages from the prophet are read at one point in each propheet.

Propheets

The Truth propheet
The Childrens propheet
The Brothers Keeper propheet
The Dreams propheet
The I Want to Live propheet
The Values propheet
The Imagine propheet

Workshops

I & ME workshop
The summit workshop

During the Wasserman years, there were 7 propheets and two workshops. The propheets employed sleep-deprivation, humiliation, occasional exposure to large variations in temperature, guided imagery, loud and repetitive music, regression therapy, bizarre ritual, and forced emoting. This normally resulted in a feeling of euphoria and exhaustion after the experience. Certain propheets actually caused students to temporarily lose their voice.

Propheets contained exercises which used metaphor to convey their message. Each propheet, with the exception of the last one, also consisted of disclosures and a lengthy rap (see below) where everyone in the room was spoken to. The students are "allowed" what appears on the surface to be a one hour nap the next day. However, staff walk amongst the kids as they try to fall asleep on the floor, and when they notice that the last one has fallen asleep, they wake up the students and tell them that the hour nap is over. After you complete a propheet, you are sworn to secrecy. However, you are allowed to speak to students who have already been through the experience.

Errr... I hate to break it to you, Psy has never trusted the whooter.. ever.

I remember when a certain someone changed the whooter's user title to Proud Member of Nambla (national associatio of man boy love or something like that). Psy laughed his butt off as much as the rest of us.

Psy likes these sort of long winded discussions.

I personally find them annoying.

As for the article.

I wonder, where have I heard of this Monarch school before? Isn't it a CEDU clone? I seem to remember reading about it in the context of it being a 2nd Generation of CEDU. Meaning some of the founders and employees came directly from the IDAHO CEDU crime family.

And I see to have made a mistake when I posted about ASR, it was a young man mentioned in the article, not young woman who went to ASR.

http://jpstillwater.blogspot.com/2005/0 ... -does.html

"The founder of Monarch, Patrick McKenna, is a graduate of Rocky Mountain Academy, which is a CEDU program; Monarch's Admissions Director, Ranel Hanson, worked for Rocky Mountain Academy for six years and then joined SUWS. (Info pertaining to CEDU & SUWS are at the very end.)"
