He's actually in mid chew on a large piece of bamboo. The timing was dead on when I took the shot and it came out perfectly.

Good pic of a great work of art! I love how the rock stratas give the carving a certain psychedelic quality.

It is one of about 20 photos I took of the entire site. It is probably the only one that turned out half decently. Amazing site though.. I'm about imagine a six foot man standing at the base of it. There would still be 25 or so feet to the top of the Buddha's head. Some of the Buddha's inside the temples are just as amazing, but those pictures didn't turn out so well. However, from that Buddha in the picture an entire network of caves extends down the mountain at ground level with different Buddha statues and other small temples of worship.

Quite amazing.. and very unexpected.

I wouldn't put it on Par with Angkor Wat though. Psy ended up with those photos as we traded memory cards at the Benchmark protest for some reason that I can't remember.

Che those are some quite interesting photos. It is interesting your subject matter. Funny how you call the futuristc space car and the costco. The tractor, it looks chinese, like, you can look at that photo and wonder, now why does this not even look old timey western, even if you did not know it was from china. It is the architecture in the background, and something about the tractor... now don't tell me it is a john deere. Also is that one of the famous pandas that all of china was waiting for to have babies and stuff? Or have they got more now? Also regarding china, while we are on the subject, have you heard of or seen this one movie called "To Live"? There might be more than one by that title. The one I am thinking of, the movie follows a family over like 60 years moving into Mao times and stuff. It's kinda like about how the little guy copes with the huge social forces.

- The Chinese have been force breeding Pandas by the dozens to cash in on their native and international Panda craze.
- I think the tractor picture where it is driving by is actually a steam driven tractor.
- The Asian style of Architecture isn't so prevalent in my section of China. These people are the country bumpkins of China and can't afford the frills associated with their tourist conscious city brethren

and no.. i haven't heard of that movie "to Live".... I'm intrigued though.. Lemme ask someone about it. I'll post some more pictures later..

Took this picture down near the river about 1 kilometer from my ultra-modern apartment. Total mind boggling contrast between my relatively upscale building and this broke as a joke neighborhood. Oddly though, I'd rather live down here so I can kick back in the morning on my stoop and eat a bowl of spicy noodles bought from a street vendor and play mah jong with the good ol' boys.

The Buddha statue picture:

http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yungang_Grottoes

I took the picture in the middle of winter when I was taking a vacation after losing my job in Korea due to the place going tits up. Learned two things on that trip, A) never run a youth liberation movement while on holiday, B) Never lead a youth liberation movement anywhere else.
