I have fibromyalgia. directly attributable to my time at KIDS, and the cervical spine injury I suffered there. I also have had psoriatic arthritis that should have been diagnosed in there, but wasn't because I hadn't seen a doctor.

OK, for a balanced view. Last weekend we had our board retreat for CAFETY. We had the joy of having a parent at our retreat who sent thier child to what they thought was a normal boarding school. Her daughter wanted to go to boarding school for the experience, and her parents agreed.

Well what happened to her at this school was horrific. - same abuse , same stories, that we (that you practically call liars, or at least you insinuate that many of us are .... exagerrating our abuse, and how come almost everyone I was in group with at KIDS is out and claiming abuse? there are only a couple missing, and I think they just want to move on) have come forward about.

Its a nightmare for this woman, she was convinced by an educational consultant, who was given this kid's full information, knew she was a good kid, and had good grades, and was for all intents "normal and not troubled", and now, because of her experience at this TBS, she *is* troubled.

Thats scary.

My parents still claim "it did me good", and "I needed it" , and "they did their best", however I have had the same experience that everyone had, that Lulu C. and Rebecca E. successfully sued them for. I have tried to commit suicide at least once because I remembered a sexual assault in there, and then when I feel unsafe I start being paranoid and watching over my shoulder, and never knowing who might just "drag me back after all these years" (its not conscious, I just start feeling that way), which causes issues of course between myself and my partners.

So seriously? You want to insinuate we're lying, or at the very least exagerrating, and that somehow these schools and institutions are for the most part "doing a good job?" Come on.

As far as not knowing where to go, Phil Elberg says "I don't know where to tell people to go, but I do know, you don;t go to these places for help"

Come on. Who are you? (as far as I can tell, you're just a troll, I don;t know why people, including myself, humour you)

Oh my god... I just heard about this now. I'm crying. My life is busy, and I tend to put the KIDS/Straight stuff way behind me as I deal with life as it is lived now, parenthood and dealing with having an autistic child with similar symptoms to the ones I had.

Wes was one of the people I talked to back in 2001 when all this stuff came out of me and I had a breakdown. His book online has been the source of me not having to recount what happened to me every time I needed to. I always ive out the link to it.

I am really sad about this, and had I known at the time I would have made the funeral (as I was down there that weekend :()

Well, cheers to you Wes, and a life lived well. You helped 10's of thousands of people, and someone said that the measure of immortality was how well we lived and what we left behind, and if thats true, you are one true "Immortal".

Exactly, by the time I was pulled out of KIDS (on 2nd phase, after over 1.75 years - I had only been on second phase for a month) - my brain was so pureed that I couldn't even talk to someone to get a watch when I got out and went to the store to get one.

if a parent consents, then its not kidnapping. (I was 18 when I "signed myself in" (after being beaten into it) - and I tried to "sign myself out" after 14 days - they laughed, I asked for my lawyer, they laughed, I got up and started to walk, I was restrained - at that moment it became unlawful imprisonment and kidnapping)

Child across the country from the parents, where the child crosses State lines, if some wrongdoing was found to have happened (child abuse, etc) it IS federal IF there is a federal law regulating it. However, it involves at least two states, and if there was a layover anywhere, possibly a third.

Still, like I said, the issue is the Statute of Limitations, plus do not construe my layman's explanations above for legal advice. I am not a lawyer or law enforcement officer, I am basing this on some basic assumptions that wrongdoing that crosses state lines becomes a federal crime. Consult a lawyer or the FBI for real advice.

Wow - If all comparable programs have been shut down in the US (and have had to either be renamed or re-established to continue making money) - then why is AARC and the people employing the same methods immune from criticism?

I haven't seen AARC opening its doors and being transparent to the public for an outside review of its methods.

I haven't seen them letting someone to advocate for the kids come in and talk to them *alone*

I haven't seen them able to sit in the back of a "rap" and observe (because there would be no way that Vause could conceivably reign the kids in from the brainwashed behaviour, and the confrontation "therapy" would be - obvious)

Until then, I'll believe that AARC is up to the same hold shit that Straight Inc, and KIDS were up to.

I don't believe that Vause can change his stripes after all these years.

Seriously? Thats what got them into major trouble in New Jersey. The Host Homes were a form of illegal care. The Bergen County prosecutor threatened my parents, "take your kids out, or we'll do it, and prosecute you for running one of these illegal care establishments in your home".

It was at that point my parents' eyes were opened a tiny bit, still not enough to agree that KIDS caused both my brother and I irreparable harm, or that I needed help beyond brainwashing, or that there is no "cure" for transsexualism beyond transition into the gender that the patient feels the most comfortable in.

The scary thing is, my parents somehow still believe all the lies I was forced to tell everyone, that I did a whole host of drugs, and that somehow the "program" saved my life.

Honestly, I did pot, and alcohol, and alcohol was rare - I didn't like it - like it more now than then. I did pot to be able to party with people all night, and have a roof over my head so I could continue to live out there without any money or food - potheads got the munchies - they fed me well. They enabled me to continue searching for the person I had met a few years earlier that had transitioned from male to female. The enabled me to have some hope that I wouldn't be trapped in the body I was living in for the past 18 years.

I did not do "Alcohol, Pot, Opium, LSD, Mushrooms, Methadone, Morphine, Codeine, blah blah blah" - I didn;t do Methadone or Morphine until it was prescribed for me a few years ago for the PAIN that KIDS caused me physically, even years later.

Yet my parents refuse to believe this, and still believe that me transitioning was a choice. Yes - I choose to give up my family and everything I have - I choose to feel trapped in this body, Yes, I choose to ostracize myself from society, become a third class citizen. I choose to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars so that I can finally feel like I don't have to RIP my genitals off because they "don't feel like they belong there". Or that a male role doesn't sit right with me when I'm interacting with others. That my brain doesn't match my body. Or that maybe its because of a hormone imbalance because of drugs taken when my mother was pregnant. Gee. Maybe its because this is a bizarre BIRTH DEFECT that makes everyone think I was MALE. Its something I wouldn't wish on The Newtons, The Semblers, and The Vauses of the world.

But its a choice.

And the fuckers made my parents believe that, and they'll never believe anything else.

I almost wish they hadn;t decided to pull us out, I probably would have had a chance to sue - the reality of it may  have come back to me sooner than 2001. I would have been able to have some sort of closure.

Instead, my parents somehow believe that I was a complete druggie and was "saved" in there - and that the sacrifice of my brother's innocence was an acceptable thing.

Sorry - this post started about something else - then it all came out - now I'm exhausted - time to go back to sleep.

Depends on the crime. I'm thinking of pressing charges for kidnapping, but I want to talk to Phil first, and see HOW I go about it. I suspect I'd do it through the FBI, since it was federal, having been brought across state lines and such.

Generally though, its 5-6 years.

AARC would have people arrested, is my guess, before they were allowed to actually sit down with them and voice their opinions.

Second is that its very similar to a POW going back to the camp where they were held and saying "Jolly Good, I think we should have a discussion about how you all treated me when I was in your prisoner camp" - its not good for the POW, and it probably wouldn;t do much good.

After years of AARC and its predeccessors being shut down in various places, is a discourse really needed between us and them on their methods? Would it change anything?

Now if AARC allowed some sort of oversight committee, that might be different, but I doubt that will EVER happen. People like Sembler, the Newtons, and Vause like playing God, thats why they're in the business they're in - A Cult.

And I'm sure the Cult rakes in the dough.

I think what scares me about this is that you actually believe people who have been brainwashed, over the thousands of people who have been abused by Vause and the programs that he was involved in. Its been proven *in court* that these people are abusive, yet you think that a a few families who are still involved in the cult (that has been listed in the FBI's cult watch list, are Synanon derivatives, specifically STRAIGHT and KIDS, and we all know AARC, while in Canada is just KIDS in Canada). If it was Scientologists or Moonies, you would probably be like "yeah right", but because its a so-called "drug rehab" that supposedly "saved lives", you're willing to listen.

I don;t get involved in these conversations much, but I think having not been involved directly in these programs, you're way out of line in even pointing fingers, or invalidating the experience of so many people. One of the reasons most of us suppose that people coming here defending the Semblers, Newtons, and Vauses of the world are from those programs is because only people brainwashed could defend those actions in any way, shape, or form.

Now I know you probably mean well in defending these people, but it makes you look as bad as the people involved. Before you start defending, I would ask them if you can watch group for a day (I bet they say no), and go and stay with some kids at a host home (guaranteed they say no). If they don't say no, and they actually allow you to do it, even if they order them to not physically abuse the kids, the evidence is incontrovertible - see if any of the kids actually talk directly to each other without asking thier "oldcomer" for permission, see if they are allowed to read things, look out windows, don't look totally exhausted because of the way things are run.... see if they're allowed to go to the bathroom without some type of supervision.

Now things may not be run at Vause's facility the way they were run at KIDS, but I doubt it - and look and listen with your own ears. If they don't allow you in - maybe they're hiding something?

I'm just asking you to understand that a lot of us on these boards are angery at what was done to us. Its hard to let go of that anger. I hope that a rational voice on our side of the fence will convince you that you *might* be on the wrong side, but I sincerely doubt it. It sounds like you made up your mind to listen to the Semblers, Vauses, and Newtons say about us - that we're druggie, bahaviour problem, sexually addicted scum, and lie and cheat and steal, and are manipulative.

I'll tell you - I am an Emmy winning technical person, who has won custody of my child (in a very conservative area), I've been written up in magazines for my contributions to the computing world, I am active in several community organizations, and well respected where I live, and the profession I work in. I am the farthest thing from a manipulative druggie - believe me when I say I was abused in every manner I could possible dream of, including sexual assault in KIDS. - and I *do* get angry when someone like you, that has no clue about what I have gone through invalidates my experiences and the experiences of people like me - but I believe that an intelligent discourse is needed instead of calling names.

Are you ready to have an intelligent discourse? or do you want to continue defending people who are clearly abusers and thieves of lives.
