Straight, Inc. and Derivatives / AARC Gala
« on: June 06, 2009, 08:50:10 PM »
There is no question that the methods used in AARC are helpful. They are derived from the same therapies used in other approved settings such as Hazelden, and then replicated in a group setting. AARC also uses a peer group to help the individual to overcome personal obstacles. Studies of these methods have demonstrated a tendency to produce long-term abstinence from drug and alcohol in those individuals who partake in the process. These techniques were used by AA but on a much smaller level and in an uncontrolled setting. Its easy to see why AARC has stuck with their current process which is yielding an 85% success rate.
1. The clients are assessed by qualified personnel to diagnose the condition AARC treats.
2. AARC will not accept any person unless they are  suffering from addiction.
3. The Wiz and his staff are highly qualified to perform the interventions used at AARC.
4. A variety of disorders present in AARC clients can be treated under one roof as the staff is capable of addressing the multiple needs of the clients.
5. The methods used in AARC are not harmful.
6. There is evidence as to the number of clients in AARC who remain abstinent after graduating AARC which exceeds 85% after four years.
7. The program is supported by contributions and donations from local businesses and large corporations such as Rolex.
8. The host home system used in AARC is unique and critical to the success of AARC clients.
9. The methods used at AARC conform to all accepted standards of practise used by mental health professionals to treat mood disorders, and have been highly successful.
10. Clients at AARC are informed that they are expected to work hard on their own sobriety and will be released from the program if their participation wanes.
11. The ongoing behaviour modification at AARC is conducted by practioners belonging to a professional body, thus the staff are subject to all standards of professional ethics."
12.  The founder is often referred to as “The Wiz” because he has the uncanny ability to show clients that they have the strength within to heal themselves and in the end the client gets credit for their own success not AARC.

News Items / Katies Story
« on: April 07, 2009, 04:40:45 PM »
ok people, i have read the things you have written. this is katie. i am an 18 year old who struggles alot. thinking about it i am in an undeniable way afraid to do things after the program. for the first few months i was afraid to even look at or talk with boys. At the "program" we were seperated and told that it was bad for us to interact. i am still afraid of many things, such as the fact that in july i turn 19 and i will have to get an aprtment. i am scared so much. sometimes i wonder if there is an actual place for me in the world. i have made mistakes. throughout the program i learned things, i saw things, and yes I was physically restrained. i still remeber the staff joking about the isolation room as "happy land". i was in that room 6 times. The first few months were very difficult and were hard on me. i still hold alot of guilt over my head becuase of "wasting my parents money". Not only do my parents feel as if it was a waste of time and money, but they feel as if it could be better spent on our family or my older's brothers/ stepsisters college.

Right now, seeing my own words on the blog scares me. What if my parent see them? will there be al hell to pay? I am not afraid of saying what i feel... but i am afraid of what Diane will do. (OH! I have not caled her a bitch or any rude names in months by the way, i am trying to stay out of the line of fire...)  In all honesty i do love her. She is the only mother i have ever known and, she has really taken a risk to be in my life. i have not been the best step daughter... but i do love her. Even now, when i tell her this she ignores me and it breaks my heart... For my daddy, he is the best dad anyone could ask for... he has fought for me all if my life... he saved me from my biological mother, but he has led me into the relationship with Diane.

I will be posting comments of my opinions and story daily starting with this. If you wish i will do an autobiography fro those of you who want to watch out for the warnign signs. But please know this: I love my family. Even though it hurts me to say this i feel as if things would be better for them if i were not around ( In which i am reminded of quite often) for those of you who want to comment feel free to do so, but know that i will not tollerate abuse of any kind. I want people to know my thoughts or feelings, so tomorrow our journey thorugh my life will begin.

Thanks for reading.Please any comments or questions email me @ [email protected]
(dont take advantage of this though.) Katie's thoughts

Why the derogatory terms towards gays with the questions about “fruitcakes” and “anal probes”.  I don’t get it. Do gays charge more for web hosting?  Is this hosted overseas?

The Troubled Teen Industry / Safe-Haven for Teens!!
« on: August 22, 2008, 07:59:08 PM »
Nebraska has figured out a way to undercut programs and save the parents a ton of money and financial/legal responsibility.

…. frustrated parents could drop off misbehaving teens or even severely disabled older children with impunity.
"Whether the kid is disabled or unruly or just being a hormonal teenager, the state is saying: 'Hey, we have a really easy option for you,"' said Adam Pertman, executive director of a New York adoption institute and a frequent critic of safe-haven laws.

Nebraska's approach is surprising because it is the last state in the nation to adopt a safe-haven law

…..lawmakers here wanted to extend the protection to all minors. And in Nebraska, that goes all the way up to age 19.

So you can just drop your teen off at any safe haven sight which are typically hospitals and just fax in or email the paperwork later.  They have it set up so you don’t have to use a vacation day or miss any work time.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Define the Ideal TBS
« on: February 18, 2008, 07:30:56 AM »
Continued from this thread:

Lets recap on our wish list:

#1- there should be unaffiliated therapists providing therapy. The family should be involved in the  therapy and the facility should be as close to the family's home as is reasonably possible.
#2 Unmonitored phone calls should be available to the adolescents
#3 A fixed or predetermined length of stay... or maybe a small window of 14 -16 months..... 6-9 months .... 30 - 60 days etc. depending on the school/program.
#4 -Unless the treatment is specifically approved by an outside therapist it must be evidence based and consistent with any applicable standard of care.
#5-reporting sexual and other abuse to the proper authorities (all staff that treat kids will be mandatory reporters of child abuse to the state where the abuse allegedly occured).
#6-The ability for the children to earn high school diplomas and take the PSAT and SAT's.

The Troubled Teen Industry / Fornits "Lighter Side"
« on: February 13, 2008, 04:58:37 PM »
It is near the end of the school year. The teacher has turned in the grades and there is really nothing more to do. All the children are restless because of
this.

Teacher: "Whoever answers the questions I ask, first and correctly can leave early today."

Little Johnny says to himself "Good, I want to get outta here. I’m smart and will answer the question."

Teacher: "Who said ’Four Score and Seven Years Ago’?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Susie says, "Abraham Lincoln."

Teacher: "That’s right Susie, you can go home."

Johnny is MAD that Susie answered the question first.

Teacher: "Who said ’I Have a Dream’?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Mary says, "Martin Luther King."

Teacher: "That’s right Mary, you can go."

Johnny is even madder than before.

Teacher: "Who said ’Ask not, what your country can do for you’?"

Before Johnny can open his mouth, Nancy says, "John F. Kennedy."

Teacher: "That’s right Nancy, you may also leave."

Johnny is BOILING mad that he has not been able to answer to any of the
questions.

When the teacher turns her back Johnny says, "I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut!"

The teacher turns around: "NOW WHO SAID THAT?!?!"

Johnny: "BILL CLINTON. CAN I GO NOW?"

The Troubled Teen Industry / Is your school or organization a Cult?
« on: January 30, 2008, 06:41:50 PM »
Posted by LS in the Cedu forum

http://liamscheff.com/daily/2008/01/28/ ... on-a-cult/ (links active at my blog).

Getting ready to film interviews with ex-Cedu/RMA in LA and Bay Area in March. Post a comment if you'll be in town and want to pop up in a documentary.

Here's a neat little tool - What is the style of education you're experiencing: Open, Advertising, Indoctrination, Propaganda, Thought Reform?

In doing research on Cults in America, and specifically those that re-form themselves as schools for troubled teens, I found this handy chart (see below), taken from Dr. Margaret Singer’s book, Cults in Our Midst (at Factnet.org ) outlining some of the differences between education and thought reform (also called “brain-washing”), and some of the stops along the way – advertising, indoctrination and propaganda.

Which of these processes best describe your school days? Your grade school? High school? College?

Your work environment? A corporate work environment?

Education involves:

    * Many bodies of knowledge, based on scientific findings in various fields.

    * Two way pupil-teacher exchange encouraged.

    * Change occurs as science advances; as students and other scholars offer criticisms; as students and citizens evaluate programs.

    * Uses teacher-pupil structure; logical thinking encouraged.

    * Instruction is time-limited: consensual.

    * Is not deceptive.

    * Respects differences.

Propaganda Requires:

    * Takes authoritarian stance to persuade masses.

    * Learner support and engrossment expected.

    * Can be deceptive, often exaggerated.

    * Targets large political masses to make them believe a specific view or circumstance is good.

    * Wants to lessen opposition.

    * Overt persuasion sometimes unethical.

Thought Reform Demands:

    * Body of knowledge centers on changing people without their knowledge.

    * No exchange occurs, communication is one-sided. [Getting "blown away," anyone?]

    * Change occurs rarely; organization remains fairly rigid; change occurs primarily to improve thought-reform effectiveness.

    * Takes authoritarian and hierarchical stance; No full awareness on part of learner.

    * Group attempts to retain people forever.

    * Is deceptive.

    * Individualized target; hidden agenda (you will be changed one step at a time to become deployable to serve leaders).

    * No respect for differences.

    * Uses Improper and unethical techniques.

Anybody stuck in the zone? Take the quiz!

The Troubled Teen Industry / GAO - Clock is ticking
« on: December 19, 2007, 09:00:56 PM »
The word on the street is that the GAO has been swamped with letters (the response has been heavy) and they have started to compile the information earlier than expected because NATSAP along with a few other corporations and federal agencies, which could be affected by the hearings outcome, are asking for disclosure prior to the hearings so that they have time to prepare and react.  The disclosure documentation takes time and was not planned for, therefore, the time to compile the information has been cut short.
There have been many letters sent, to date, and the GAO is presently focusing mainly on programs which operate using federal land and funding.  But if they receive a land slide of (legitimate) complaints against programs which operate outside the federal domain they may expand their final recommendations to include all RTC’s ...... and any regulation that results may include more than just those under the federal jurisdiction and land operations.

So you need to write in the next couple of days to make an impact,  Here is the email .. it is important to reference “GAO-08-146Tâ€

The Troubled Teen Industry / Ways to get layed off from your job
« on: October 30, 2007, 09:35:21 PM »
I have had reports, from some of my managers,  of employees in some of my companies,  that do some really strange things to put them on the short list.   They didnt want to screw up so bad that they would get fired, but wanted to get lin line to be the first to be laid off so they could collect unemployment benefits.

Does anyone know someone who tried to get laid off so they could collect and how they did it or what they tried?

The Troubled Teen Industry / CDC reports: Suicide rates up 76% in teen girls
« on: September 07, 2007, 03:14:31 PM »
Suicide rates were falling since 1990, but seem to be on the rise again.  Could this be due to our friends at the pharmaceutical industry trying to find better ways to treat depression, bi-polar etc.  with new meds?

I would expect a correlation (or many) to appear in a near future article.

Web forum hosting / Message for psy or web hoster
« on: August 20, 2007, 07:04:33 PM »
I was asked by thewho to respond to psy.  The post made got buried in the Hidden lake academy section of your web site and I don’t think he received it so I will repost it here for him.  If this is the wrong section you can delete it and I will forward it elseware.
Quote from: ""psy""
Well.  If you can get permisssion from the who to make ALL his postings available to the public, then we might be able to work something out.  If TheWho truly wants the truth to be known, fine by me.

He was NOT banned for what he did in a few minutes, either.  I don't know who you are getting your information from.

As for labeling a FEW of his MANY posts with a cat in the hat, I agree with you that it was wrong.  He should have just been banned and left it at that.

Hey.  I don't like the idea of keeping all this secret either, but Ginger has a strict policy of not outing posts.  If the Who waives that, in the interest of showing that he was not flooding the forum, fine, but he won't do it.  Figure out for yourself why.

The who said he was responding to someone who had taken on his name and another who was continuously posting posts like the following (He doesn’t claim the moderator altered these posts):

Quote from: ""TheWho""

Ha, Ha, Ha.............  Sometimes this is too funny!  You people will say anything to get attention or to manipulate... Ha, Ha, Ha...  Well, you know, sometimes a kid getting anally gang-raped is the best way to deal with immaturity!  You have to grow up some time.......Ha, Ha, Ha

Quote from: ""TheWho""

Wow, I really got those guys stirred up today!  Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to respond, but these kids claiming to have been "victimized" or "abused" are really just exagerating things to manipulate parents into not seeking help.  99% of that stuff never even happened (lies) and the other 1% is overblown (manipulation).  One thing I will admit though is that when I was visiting my daughter at ASR there were some "troubled girls" there who were coming on to me (I guess in an attempt to try to get me to take them out of there -manipulation-  which I would never do).  Looking back, some of them were pretty hot and if they liked sex, it wouldn't be "abuse" to give it to them!  I definitely thought about it and bet that the counselors did too!

Back on topic...Ha, Ha, Ha...  I will be updating the matrices today so you can pass them on to your colleagues.  And thanks again for your advice.  Fight fire with fire!  I'm going to do it to "Bob" today!

Thewho responded the same (changed thewho name on the posts to someone elses name and reposted) and they went back and forth and he believes this is what was considered flooding.  At least that is all he can think of for a possible reason. But it takes more than one person to have a flame war, I think is what he called it.
 Ccxccc   He responded to being banned but never received a response back from fornits.

Thewho said he would agree to having all his posts strung together under his name from: “his banned date backâ€
